Spoilers for doctor sleep and maybe next ep of this bullshit, In the shining the little kid and dick halloran have the “shinning ability” and one of the ability’s of a shinner is to put like ghost and spirits that are annoying to them in a sort of box like prison, so in doctor sleep the kid is grown up and puts multitudes of ghost and spirits in boxes like the one shown in this episode, I think Dick used his differently than the kid and does use it as a way to suppress the ability to see dead people, I think because of penny wise fascination with fear and saw that the ability might be halloran’s, he forced the box open, or somehow made dick open this box on his own. Anyway watch doctor sleep, and I say bullshit but this show is amazing

Pretty sure the box opening represents Hallorann's unbridled shine. We know that White Grandma always told him to "keep a lid on" or "they" will get him. Probably referring to spirits that consume and feed off shine? Black Grandpa tells him that power like that should be used almost representing the duality of Hallorann's capabilities? Yeah, I read the books instead of the watching the movies (I watched Dr. Sleep tho). But I do like that Pennywise utilized the fear of him losing control over his abilities. If you read the books though you know that Hallorann inevitably learns how to control them. I wonder if the darker things he will see in the next episodes may be pivotal to him overcoming his own fear and using the Shine to help defeat/weaken Pennywise.

Yeah it definitely came across like she was cluing Taniel in on the plan when saying she told the military that Taniel was the only one who knew how to or could use the dagger. Clearly from Lilly's experience it still worked without him so she just wanted a way to ensure one of their own was down there to sabotage the mission before the soldiers blundered and made the situation much worse. She's not wrong considering it's a stupid mission though LOL.
