Nevermind the fact that they left Lilly behind last episode she's kind of bent over backwards to make things right for her from the very beginning. They've all tried every rational thing they could do. Plans A,B,C,&,D have all failed nothings worked. Even if they hadn't all gone to the theater that night, the police wanted to hang Matty's death around her father's neck anyway. He would've been cooked regardless.

Yeah, with the abilities Dick has in the shine, it was primarily being able to sense others' pain (both past, present and future), read their minds and feel intent, but the box is where you trap away traumatic experiences, or in this case abilities, as Dick had his to trap his ability to see the dead (as y'all pieced together before), since some people with the shining can see and/or communicate with spirits. Not everyone who has the shining can do everything listed above (Dick's grandmother couldn't), but Dick kind of always had the capability to do all of the things someone with shining can do (which is why he would be labeled as "powerful"), but as we all know it must traumatic to be able to see and hear dead people hence why he never used it other than occasionally seeing his dead grandma who meant a lot to him; I wouldn't be surprised if he also put other traumas in there too, since most of the time people are susceptible to developing the shine due to trauma or if they're related to someone who also has it - Dick has both worlds.
