My deal is that Earth is COOKED. It's a VERY good chance that none of the individuals left on Earth are scientists. So unless the hive told the people, or person, step by step how to make the "cure", it's never getting made. They will not make it even if you ask them to. No one is farming, or if they are they aren't harvesting. Can goods, dropped food, and stockpiled food will run out A LOT sooner than the HDP. Actually the HDP will increase as the other foods decrease because people will die of starvation. This people dying will include the 12 individuals unless they learn to farm/hunt for themselves. As far as the guy that's enjoying the world as it is, I have mixed feelings. He's enjoying himself WAY too much knowing how F'ed the world is though.

Since the hive didn't see his memories, they probably thought he was dead until he went out to investigate why everything stopped working. This thing the Virus is acting like a virus, a planet one. Viruses are only really programmed at the base to spread and infect. By infecting host bodies, they eventually end up killing them, but even after the host is dead they can still spread, just not as well. If a virus kill the hosts too quickly it makes harder for them to spread. They mentioned in episode one that the thing that would have to be broadcasting the signal would have to be the size of Africa, which is insane. That amount of digging to get the materials and energy to make something like would probably kill the planet anyways (see how much AI is already posinging so many communities as it is, and then think about if someone made an AI data thing one third of the Earth's entire landmass.) So, that's probably the cycle of this fucking thing. Infect host body/planet, build megastructure that will end up boiling the oceans anyways as the population slowly dies out, send out signal and mentain the structure long enough with whatever few thousand or hundred bodies are left for as long as possible until someone else picks up on it and then the cycle starts again. The only thing is that part about killing the host too quickly making it harder to spread. We also know from the first episode that they didn't intend to just infect the entire world over night. They just got discovered and had to act quickly to avoid getting purged more or less. So now they are on a much smaller time schedule to get the mega structure up and going, something huge that will kill the world anyways and will probably keep going for millions of years even after humanity is gone.

Just a heads up that they need stem cells specifically from Carol’s bone marrow because they need to find out her specific immune system markers to custom tailor the virus to her. There is no possibility that using her frozen eggs (which actually only contains half of Carol’s genome) or any other cells containing her DNA will work to accomplish making the virus work on Carol.

It's interesting that their reliance on HDP has them projecting a finite time limit on their population, because if they were reproducing at a normal rate, the population may decrease, but it would approach a finite equilibrium value (the carrying capacity of their cannibalistic strategy). The fact that they do not predict decreasing to a sustainable population implies that they cannot reproduce (or at least, cannot produce infectable offspring), in particular that their birth rate in their model is 0. Thus, Carol's oocytes may come into play in a different way. Alternatively, perhaps HDP does not contain all the nutrients necessary for healthy humans, in which case this theory is moot. 🤷🏽‍♀️

about pushing the car down the hill, the battery was dead. if you have a manual transmission, you can push-start a car like that by turning the key, putting the car in gear, engaging the clutch, and let it roll. releasing the clutch around 5 or more mph engages the engine and it will start. while it's running, the alternator will recharge the battery so you can just start it with the key later.

I really like the avocado toast scene because it perfectly shows what's great about humans being individuals and why the hive can only take you so far. they only ever give diabate exactly what he asks for so he never gets to experience anything outside of his own desires. being around an actual human being who does things differently than him and who isn't just concerned with making him happy gave him a chance to see and try something new that he actually liked. I think a lot of people underestimate how boring it is to just get what you want all the time without ever being challenged.

So my only things with that is 1. Just the EXTREME amount of time that would take to learn one of those subjects to that high of a level, not to mention the multiple it would take to tackle the situation 2. Theres no telling how the hivemind affects human biology and physiology so whatever information you could learn could likely end up being outdated or unfit for this particular thing and based on how they wouldn’t tell Carol how to reverse it, they can choose to withold any info about stuff like that(if you were able to find the right question to ask)

The reason i think homeboy’s city was dead empty is simply just because in order for the hive to function competently, they have to consolidate people together to work efficiently. Its one of the like 100,000 interesting aspects of a hive mind like this taking over modern human society(rather than being born a hivemind) Theres no need for there to be people inhabiting any of the millions to billions of cities that the 12 survivors aren’t in. And even the ones the survivors are in, only realistically need a couple hundred just to help out with whatever they want(the grocery store, the poker game, electricity grid, etc.) so 99% of the bodies they inhabit in those cities can go contribute to the overall mass who is most likely just constantly harvesting and searching for whatever food they can and building/repurposing facilities to store it But like i couldn’t live in this world, i’d have gone insane in the first 4 days just from the amount of moral and ethical questions i’d have. For example, does the hivemind prevent death if it would give them food? Like say one random person had a heartattack, would the hivemind step in to save them or would they use that as an opportunity for more food? Can the hivemind prevent crime or danger? Say if a chunk of the 12 were criminals and wanted to hurt the others, could the hivemind step in? What if you wanted to commit a crime like murdering one of the hive? What if that was your condition to them in order for you to be happy?

It is not a person with sentient independent thoughts that can see other people to know it is a sentient thing itself What’s the most it can spread itself before it gets too much? Could it make all 7 billion+ people all do something completely different at once? Or is there a limit at which it can split up it’s actions? Is the hive aware of its origins from that signal in space? Does it feel a connection to whatever sent out that signal? This is assuming that the signal didn’t simply come from another planet the hive occupies and that’s how it spreads through space, which is why they’re not overly concerned about starving to death in 10 years Can the hive make art? Like yeah we all have our things we would want them to make if we were in this world(GTA 6, Bloodborne 2, Berserk Remake, new music by Frank Ocean and Rihanna,etc.) but would it be the REAL true blue art? Or a pale imitation based off the version that existed until the moment the hive took over? Like if i ask it to make a new Kendrick/Drake beef in 5 years, is it going to have the same growth then as if those 2 were allowed to naturally progress over 5 years?

I am with Carol about trying to have your own identity and Breaking Free from the hive mind but if I'm the only person trying to figure and sort this out with my current set of knowledge I don't think I'll be able to keep fighting for long there just be a certain point what I would just have to accept a new normal because I would have to learn everything I know about genetics disease studying new life form from scratch by myself because it's clear the other people don't really want to help so I feel like after a certain amount of time there's a tipping point where I just look at what I still have yet to do knowing that I only have 10 years time which is not going to be enough time to learn and do what I need to do for a singular person and just think maybe I should just stop trying because how long can you keep fighting on your own when you're going against every single person on Earth that's not willing to help

If they can kill bacteria then they cultivate and harvest bacterial biomass and supply 99% of the population's nutritional requirements. It isn't an impossible task for them. And if they extract the waste from fungi and algae (because they'll likely have a problem killing them directly) they'll get more nutrients. Combine it with lab grown meat, and other solutions, and they'll have a full solution.

Eggs only contains half a woman's genome. They're haploid meaning they only contain 23 chromosomes. To completely duplicate her genome they would need a somatic cell which is diploid and contains all 46 chromosomes. It is impossible with just eggs. Plus unless their trying to clone her, there isn't a point of getting her full genome. They need her stem cells. Now I guess there is a case where they can use her genome to artificially create her stem cell but they need a living cell that already contains her genome. Once again great episode. I loved how they took what we were all expecting/dreading and turned it on its head. Instead of the Hive eating humans because it's secretly evil- it's because they have no choice. The unique premise of the show- that of it being an actual utopia- is preserved. That being said I am starting to form a few theories: 1)The Hive itself is not the antagonist- it is the weapon. The reveal that the Hive is essentially starving and can do nothing about it seems to be a programmed imperative rather than a naturally evolved one. If I was an alien species and I wanted to take over another planet this is the way I would do it. Send the Hive to neutralize the native population. Give the Hive an assimilation imperative it cannot ignore to ensure that all of the population is affected. With the population neutralized- give the Hive an extremely passive disposition. In this way the biosphere is completely preserved for the alien's eventual takeover since the Hive can literally do no harm. Finally- by forcing the Hive to resort to cannibalism you are in effect creating a slow but inevitable genocide. 2)With that being said- the above theory does have a point of failure- why not simply code the Hive to stop eating period once it takes over? Assuming the above theory is correct (which is already a huge assumption)- then there are 2 reasons for a slow rather than immediate decline. A) Manage any non-assimilated survivors to ensure they can't rise back up once the Hive starves. B) The Hive is needed to construct something. I think the "antenna the size of Africa" wasnt a throwaway line. Perhaps the alien species that created the Hive needs it to construct a beacon or something of the sort to indicate to the alien species that the takeover was successful. In order to do this, they would need time- hence why the slow rather than immediate decline. As an aside- this could also explain the signal that is playing on the radio. 3)If both the above theories turn out to be correct then this show has the chance to do something really unprecedented. Perhaps Carol won't be the savior of just the human race. Perhaps Carol and the other survivors will also be the savior of the Hive itself. The show has made it clear that the Hive itself would prefer to be vegetarian. It would prefer not to have to resort to cannibalism and perhaps if it's "biological imperative" to assimilate is disconnected it can actually learn to respect consent. I think even if given the choice- some humans would choose to assimilate to the Hive- especially if the Hive is not lying about how wonderful it is to be assimilated. I don't have high hopes for this of course. This is a Western show and western shows typically like solid lines between "good" and "evil". Either way I'll be here for the ride!

Empathy is a curious thing. Most people can empathize with Carol as she is a typical upper middle-class American. We have been following from her perspective all this time and most rational people can understand why she is the way she is even if they dislike her. Koumba on the other hand is hard to empathize with. We don't know his backstory but there are hints scattered about. According to the Pluribus wiki- his name is indicative of a child whose mother died in childbirth. His obsession with wealth and seeming lack of family suggests to me that he wasn't doing great in his prior life. Notice how he is one of the three characters without any family? I assume he was an orphan who was barely surviving prior to the Joining and as such is taking advantage of a life he would have never dreamed of. The sandwich scene also reinforces this in my mind- man didn't know how to make a sandwich? Obviously that scene was meant to show the value of individuality and why it's important to learn from other perspectives but I don't think it was an accident they chose Koumba to demonstrate this.

I think the point of them asking for consent to gather their stems cells is because in order to do that, their technically "hurting them" because it is a painful procedure as Koumba emphasized. Since they can't harm anyone, they have to ask for consent. Also the consent thing doesn't apply to them spreading the virus bc in their eye's, it wasn't harmful and it was actually helping humanity. All in all they don't necessarily believe in our version of "consent" per say, they just can't physically harm Carol and the others as it's not in their hive morality. It's kinda like a vampires trope of not being able to come indoors unless invited in. If they could they would, but they can't so they have to ask.

The issue with consent with these people is that they are of one mind. They can clearly draw boundaries. He can't ask consent of individuals because they aren't individuals anymore. This was a RNA cluster message sent 600 years ago by something (aliens) across the universe and humans on Earth intercepted it, and created a VIRUS from it that infected humanity with this "physic glue" that allows access to every human mind as a collective. Viruses aren't evil, they just do as they are programmed. Yes, what they are programmed to do to survive and multiply might be horrific to a human individual, but its not "evil". Kumba is sad and creepy....and its unsettling to watch him treat the hive like clients in Westworld treated sentient humanoids...but that's the worst you can say about him. There is no one being harmed from Kumba's actions because the individual human being selves no longer exist. Now, if somewhere down the line this is actually able to be reversed and every human gets their self and full memories and individuality back...then it will be horrible what Kumba is doing. But there is nothing to suggest to him, or anyone, this is possible in this new post virus world where only 12 humans are left and the collective has already taken over humanity. And im sure if we found out about Kumba's life before We-Day...we'd see he had a sad, poor life. So to use this opportunity to live differently, even if for a small amount of time, makes sense. He is probably a guy never afforded the luxury of "having a plan" about the future. He is now living for the moment. 3. Roshi and the rest asking if Kumba feels lame staging all of this Casino royal playthrough...its no more lame/cringe than people who go play videogames everyday. This is the next level online gaming, similar to Westworld's take on it. If you are saying "but this isn't a videogame, they are real people!", that's a bad argument because they aren't real people anymore. If you are saying "but he should not do this and try to save everybody to bring them back to being real people", nothing suggests to him that this is even possible anymore. The 11 humans who zoom and came up with "robotic farming" are idiots not realizing the entity they are working with. They already crunched all the numbers and came up with the conclusion that, for now, they need to consume 8-12% of human protein from the already dead in order to survive longer. And farming makes no sense because they already have told you they will not harvest anything because its killing living cells, which they cannot do because of the virus programming. 5. Stem cells are all over, but specific usage of stem cells requires extracting from specific places. The Plur1bus asking for extraction from the bone marrow with a needle means they need it for something blood/circulatory related. Embryonic stem cells are used because they are somewhat of a universal doner to be used across in a general way. We don't know if embryonic stem cells can be used to spread the virus to the remaining humans or not, be we definitely know the hive has figured out that bone marrow stem cell extraction does. If they could use the stem cells from her embryos, i would imagine they would have taken them even before she arrived in Vegas. So i kind of have to believe they need her permission like they told her. Otherwise, just tell her they have her egg stem cells already. why wouldnt they tell her if they already have the ability to convert her? 6. When Carol asked the hive to send the videos to the other survivors. she asked them to subtitle it for the non English speakers. This really is THE huge question of where this story will go. 1. Can Carol really cure/reverse the assimilation into the hivemind? 2. If she can, how effective is it? Does the individual get all their memories and self identity back and forget what happened after We-Day? That doesn't make much sense to me cause that effectively would make all the seasons be pointless, in the end. 3. Do they retain the memories of the collective during the days of assimilation? That would have to be horrific, suddenly becoming your old self AND downloading all the memories and thoughts of all humanity during the assimilation. I can only assume this would be madness and a very tragic ending if so. 4. Do they become something else? some sort of hybrid? My theory is that the Plur1bus virus directive is not to destroy/kill any living cell. Sort of the opposite of a cancer directive, which can only grow/survive by letting cells/organ become destructive and die.. Which would explain all their weird rules. Purposefully killing humans would be actively destroying millions of cells, so no. Farming wheat or corn would be actively killing plant cells. Lab grown meat is still comprised of living cells just like natural meat. So they are able to utilize organics whose cells are already dead or dying, but they cant purposefully cause the mass destruction of living cells.

I wouldn't want to associate with her even before the world changed, and that the Hivemind doesn't just take her out as a threat is a conceit of the show's plot, I think. Yes, the hivemind wants to integrate (kill) you (as an individual), but it will placate you till you die, if you don't consent to the procedure, that's a mercy. Now that we know that the hivemind has 10 years unless they can find a consistent food source for its billions of drones, whilst possessing the knowledge and resources of the entire species, the individuals are screwed either way. Why not live in a relatively hassle free fantasy for that remaining period of time? Honestly, this show is technically fascinating in its premise, but I don't know where it's going.

Look I'm not saying the guy isn't a creepy cringey weirdo, but if I was in this situation I would have given up hope so fast and just accepted being pampered by the hive. I wouldn't be throwing weird sex parties with them, but I would ask for some nice things. Probably like top of the line PC and every singleplayer game I never got the chance to play. Just live out the 10 years of their starvation and the rest of my life in some comfort just knowing the world is fucked no matter what. I mean even if you manage to reverse it, it will be complete chaos and an apocalyptic amount of death as people would be in countries they've never been in before, supply chain has stopped, lots of people died, etc everyone would go into looting/pillaging/survival mode.
