Does it work like this? For the characters in the show it is the present For us the viewers it is a prequel (past) to the movies For Pennywise it’s the past, present and future happening at once He’s not time travelling because he already lost to the Losers club and that’s how he knows he loses, he gets a ‘memory’ from the future that’s set in stone and is trying to change the future but since it’s not time travel and what’s done is done he’s trying to create a new timeline where he wins? And since the next 2 seasons are taking place back in '35 and '06 does that mean we’re just watching his attempts at creating a timeline where he wins?

He's a cosmic being and omnipresent so he's experiencing the past, present, and future at the same time. That's what he means when he says his death is his birth and that yesterday and tomorrow are all the same to him.

The Mist (another book by Stephen King) is in the same universe as IT, The Shining, and The Dark Towers series, and so it is theorized that the remnants of IT's power from just one pillar being destroyed is what caused the story of The Mist to occur; it doesn't help that The Mist also takes place in Maine. Also, the emotional turmoil that IT must be going through because being trapped in one place in a singular chronological time-frame is unnatural to something like IT; as in, it simply goes against nature for a cosmic force. A cosmic force transcends all time, and yet IT is forced to actually live through time itself. Must be torture lol.

From what I can gather, Pennywise doesn’t literally travel through time. He’s a higher being. He experiences the past, present, and future all at once. So he didn’t travel back in the past after dying. He is just an aware that he dies in the future and knows her son was apart of the group. I believe he’s always known when he dies and in every cycle tries to take steps to prevent it. Also he may not actually be dead in the future due to stuff from other books but that’s a whole other bag of stuff

The thing about IT seeing/feeling time differently and at the same time is that it probably gets really confused which we actually saw. It reminds me of Beholders from D&D, where they can see every possible future at the same time, and because of that they come off as insane they never know what timeline they are in. So even though IT can see it's own past and future, it mixes with the present and he probably is less effective at changing things rather than if he could only just go backwards. It also explains how he always sometimes knew everything in both the movies and this show and also sometimes got blinded sided by some random shit (like not realizing Ingrid was the daughter of Bob, but already knowing how to get Dick's box to open against his will etc.)

At the end of the day, Pennywise loses because he don't take shit serious. Nothing matters to it really. Hell, the implication that it didn't die in the second movie lines up with a Stephen King story from 2019 confirming It had fully recovered from its fight with the Loser's Club in the 80s (book timeline) and was haunting Derry again. I hope we get an adaptation of that story for like, a series finale

I cant be alone in thinking the writers just ruined the whole show in the last episode, right? I really thought episode 7 was peak but this last episode was friggin frustrating and rough to sit through. Other than the the poor dialogue which has been my one consistent complaint (especially the young kids that constantly talk to one another like emotionally educated adults) I was mostly enjoying the show up to now but this last episode it felt like shit was just randomly happening and people were just doing things "because plot". -they completely threw the established lore and continuity out the window by shoehorning in the idea that Pennywise can perceive time differently and can be reborn -they gave it a clumsy exposition dump monologue half way through the episode like a cheesy bond villain -gave it completely out-of-character motivations and a frankly single digit IQ "plan" to prevent its death which logically falls apart if you think about it for more than 10 seconds and is a complete departure from the whole idea of Pennywise being a cosmic fear-fueled shapeshifting psychic nightmare creature that's only impulse is to spread terror and feed on it -this is followed immediately by Pennywise having an oh-so-conveniently timed and AGAIN completely out-of-character hallucination sequence in which Dick Halloran somehow has the power to manipulate Pennywise's mind making it briefly believe its "Bob" and gets it to react in the way a confused human being would -and then there's all the random shit like Will immediately losing control of his mind and body within seconds of grabbing the "dagger" while it had a much slower and more subtle effect on virtually everyone else -he's forced to start walking toward Pennywise talking about how he has to bring it there only to literally 5 seconds later have the mental faculty to tell the others to turn him around... -Taniel just being totally cool with helping the dudes who psychically tortured him for info only to get shot and die -The General just being a general idiot and doing the dumbest imaginable thing at every moment of the episode (Pennywise's effect on the mind not withstanding) -Will's mom TOSSING ASIDE THE GUN before running towards her husband and Pennywise Idk man, I just think the writers really shit the bed on this one at the last moment

@PropheticSage how so? Based on what we've seen Halloran struggled to even get Taniel to share a small bit of information much less put a Genjutsu on Pennywise. He couldn't even block out spirits or calm their voices without assistance. Meanwhile, even ignoring the fact that Pennywise doesn't even have a human mind, its already shown that it can read people's mind with ease to the point it can draw on their deepest fears, and do so to multiple people at once. Not to mention the natural mind altering effect it has on people and their mental state just by being within a few miles of them.

lol Don't just read AI summaries and assume its correct. *edited for clarification* Regardless of whether you're operating off of info from the book or only from the films, the idea of Pennywise being able to make plans to alter the future contradicts everything that's already been established. If ur going off the books, It is a non-linear being but still bound to the future in which it dies, it doesn't make plots to change its fate because that goes against its very nature. If ur going only off the movies and even the show itself until the last episode, it still doesn't make any sense for it to have any agency over things to come. If it could see the future and change things, it would already know what course of action to take to achieve its goals and survive, instead of wasting its time doing stuff it knows will fail. Meaning the movies would never happen. Its just bad writing.

He struggled to get into Taniel's mind while his abilities were partially nerfed for his own sanity. The Maturin root also helped provide him a stronger connection. People with the Shining at Halloran's level and above can create and alter entire mindscapes at will to defeat enemies in psychic battles. Of course, once It realized what was going on it easily overpowered him. Also, it doesn't matter that It doesn't have a humab mind. The Shine is connected directly to your soul, and connects you to the Macroverse via the Dark Tower. It is a pillar of the Macroverse. They're connected in that way.

Danny is also uniquely powerful in terms of his Shine even more powerful than Halloran so him not being able to read his mind isn't that surprising but Halloran is no slouch he's Danny's mentor and is able to seal away evil spirits and was able to use his Shine efficiently enough to save people after The Black Spot burned down, I'm not saying he could kick It's ass but trapping it momentarily in a vision doesn't break my immersion

The way I understood it, is that Pennywise is like Dr. Manhattan for those who know of the Watchmen series. He experiences time all at once, so while he is living in the 60's, he's also living in the 30's and the 80's and so on and so forth. It's why he was able to tell Will that he is going to burn in a fire, and yes that was Beverly, the girl from the movies, it's crazy how much she still looks the same, because all the other kids look so different now.

IT doesn't truly die in the movies. The physical form that is Pennywise was destroyed, but ITs true form, is the cosmic essence known as the deadlights, which cannot be destroyed. At the end of IT chapter 2 the kids from Chapter 1 (now adults) seal that specific breach into our universe from the deadlights when they kill Pennywise, which means the deadlights now reside back to their part of their universe (The Todash darkness), which is a space between universes. This means the deadlights could force a new breach in reality, return to our universe, and manifest itself into a new form that isn't Pennywise but a completely new entity altogether... which I assume is the meaning behind Pennywises' "Brings me death, or is it birth? I get confused" quote.

The ending was chilling in a way that I wasn’t expecting but it’s so very well done too. We literally see the moment that Beverly and her Dad find out that her mom/his wife killed himself, which was such a pivotal moment for Bev’s development. The actress who played the old woman also being there is revisited in the second chapter movie when Beverly is an adult - specifically the part where Beverly is revisiting her childhood home and looking for her special item for the ritual of chuud (the postcard that Ben wrote for her “January embers”). It’s really interesting because you can put it to a timeskip event when you see the old woman in this series vs seeing her in the second movie, quite nightmarishly I might add, and now when one is watching the movies again, her character makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE and gives her a more sobering affect in her presence. This was very fun to watch with you guys :)

Watching this episode again with you guys made me realize something funny: this series gaslit me to think this is a W. Whatever happened at the end was due to the military bullshit plan, which wasn't supposed to happen in the first place. The cycle? Yeah they couldn't stop shit. The creature had his fill. They could do nothing to stop his racist ass feasting on the black folks and then went straight to sleep; all the guardians could do was calculating the casualties. And the Loser club fared terribly this time. This club could have had up to 8 members, but It nearly wiped them out in the first episode, then Rich had to sacrifice himself. The only thing major thing It failed to do was killing one specific person, but that's it.
