insane way to end the season

Raider

Need S2 asap

Jamaal Ellison

Between streaming Roshi and vacation Roshi. I don't know which one is my favorite.

Jamaal Ellison

Requesting For All Mankind on Apple TV.

Jamaal Ellison

I know they've at least recorded voice-over work for season two. Amazon would be insane not to let this show go on for at least five seasons.

grimreapercz

Love the twist Beau is capable of attending the gala! Makes sense she'd want to probably get far, far away from her pompous parents. And a place to vent out years of frustration, the Cobalt Soul is perfect for that.

Bria A.

Already in production/animation process!

Bria A.

The full revelation of how she ended up there is even better than this (already good) take!

AzureSiegfried

I’m rooting for Essek he’s an interesting character. I hope he gets more moments later on.

PJ Rivera

I’m fiending for more I actually like the darker tone in this one compared to the more light hearted one of Vox Machina.

Polygon

This ENTIRE Heist didn't happen in the original campaign! Instead of being tasked to steal the Beacon, the Gentlemen asked them to look into an abandoned research facility underground. The "heist" that Caleb, Nott, and Fjord do at the start of the episode is a nod to the ACTUAL heist they did in the game where they broke into that Lord's house. The standoff between Caleb and Fjord did actually happen, but the entire party was there for that. In game, they ACCIDENTALLY stumble across the beacon following the heist in Zadash after seeing Trent and another Cerberus Assembly mage battling the Kryn in the sky and running into the retreating Kryn as they did in this episode. They decided to let the Kryn soldier keep the beacon, but they were killed by a guard and they ended up taking it after that. They already had possession of the beacon by the time they met the Gentleman in game! They didn't encounter Trent until waaaaaayyyy later in the game. Alos, Essek wasn't part of the strike force that came for the beacon,

Bria A.

They're playing fast and loose with D&D rules because of copyright by Wizards of the Coast but the lollipop (Spiritual Weapon) isn't a spell that can fly or carry anyone, which is why she can't just do that even though it might seem obvious lol. Flight magic and abilities in general are usually for higher level characters than the Mighty Nein are right now in the story. Edit: I realize now that Jester's lollipop seems similar to Bigby's -- er, Scanlan's -- Hand, but that one can actually carry people and do utility stuff on top of being large. Spiritual Weapon is exclusively for hitting shit, with a little creative looney tunes flair thrown in for the show. The hand isn't a spell clerics get anyway! Just wizards and sorcerers, and Scanlan got it as a bard through some specific mechanical level up decisions.

RedSunCrusher!!!

Wait can someone let me know is the traveler the same dude from Vox Machina who first appeared as a butt or are they completely different characters.

Kirk Perry

I think the same person. The design looks a little different in Vox Machina. But those events were in the past so he could have just glown up. He calls himself the Traveler in Vox Machina (i think) but i know for sure he safes "Safe Travels" after Vox Machina goes through the portal he made for them. You can youtube the clip. The Traveler in Vox Machina.

grimreapercz

That makes the fact Trent Ikithon is mopping the floor with the Kryn while FLYING even more terrifying! I bet that task force was higher level as well so seeing Trent fighting multiple of them at once and also battle with Essek was SCARY. I already loved his scenes and this just elevates him as a villain for me!!!

Israel Magana

I really like the way that they are still conveying the core of the story. You can see the blueprints of the original campaign. I understand when you take one medium of storytelling to another you have to make changes to convey. This is so good.

RedSunCrusher!!!

Oh I didn't know that Vox Machina was in the past then yeah he could definitely look different now. I'll for sure look up the clip of him in Vox Machina.

Jason Marbach

Blessed early drops baybeee. Get ready for forty comments from me 🤣

Kirk Perry

I think Molly turned that woman INTO the eye card we saw. And Jester picked it up but didn't say anything.

Bria A.

1. This is technically the second orb Fjord has -- this is the one he got from Nydas's treasure hoard. The first one he actually got from the initial shipwreck, which is why he didn't have a stab wound! The visions were, to my best estimate, a mix of flashbacks / resurfaced memories and mental projection by [redacted creature] to "tell" him what to do. 2. As you figured out a while ago, "crick" is a racist slur for the Kryn, but it's specifically short for "cricket", ie. the bug sounds their armor makes when they move. You can hear them in the sewer scene. :) 3. Not gonna confirm or deny any Traveler theories about origin or motives, but now that it's been revealed I can tell you that you've actually seen this design before in Vox Machina.

Jason Marbach

Lupa immediately found one of the classic debates about a Bag Of Holding: can you hold a person in it? The answer is yes, but there’s a limited amount of air, haha. Someone figured out exactly how much air there would be before you start to suffocate 🤣 (it’s about ten minutes’ worth)

Bria A.

Dependent on constitution score, I'm pretty sure (it follows the suffocation/holding your breath rule)! So some people...shit outta luck lmao.

Jason Marbach

Jester called Fjord “Oskar” because that’s the half-orc love interest in the book Tusk Love and she was fantasizing that she was Guinevere 🤣❤️

Jason Marbach

Yyyyyeah Roshi, a dick rocket?! Lmao

Mitchellguy101

They hit us with a dandadan ending, like they sitting on a whole nother half of the season

Kirk Perry

Also the Traveler is 100% real ( i think, cause im just watching the show idk the lore of the DND campaign). He is certainly not all he seems to be. It seemed weird how he says Jester is his favorite. Like if that was true, who did you go to see then?! BUT THEN YOU WANNA GET JELLY WHEN I MAKE FRIENDS?! lol yeah no, hes got other motives. I dont believe he is a BAD person, but im not convinced he's good either. Hes on that chaotic spectrum. Just doin shit and havin fun cause being an immortal or godly thing is boring.

Bria A.

Jamaal -- I'm curious about the pacing! TLOVM will be a five season show, but the actual campaign is 115 episodes and they started filming for the public halfway into their game at level 10, going all the way to 20th level. Campaign 2 (Mighty Nein) was 141 episodes going from level 2 to...16, I think? But they're taking much more creative liberty with the animated narrative in TMN than VM, which is I want to say maybe 85% a direct recreation.

Bria A.

It's technically Season 2 but functionally Season 1B, and I haven't decided if I'm into it lmao. Generally I hate split seasons or a cliffhanger that can't still sort of stand on its own, because it *feels* abrupt and unfinished. I know S2 is already in the works so we don't have to deal with premature cancellation, but imma have to sit on whether or not I like the format / writing decision.

Bria A.

Trent is a villain that deserves so much hate while also being mildly impressed lmao. There are other villains in Critical Role you can actually sympathize with or agree with to an extent (Delilah, fan favorite CR3 villain NPC, etc.) -- but Trent Ikithon just an example of a person you gotta put down. Fantastic source of evil, terrible individual. I will say the show is giving him much more aura than the game did haha.

Jason Marbach

Season 2 is getting close to finished, they said in a recent update it’s dropping late 2026

kristian

I been checking for new episodes I didn’t even know the season was over wtf😂😂

Kevs rey

Pardon me this can’t be the end

Michael Ramirez

The show was greenlit for 2 seasons to start and knowing if they're approved for multiple seasons does influence how they end the current one. Season 3 of Vox Machina ended the way it did, and not how some fans thought it would, was partly due to the fact that they didn't know they would get season 4 and preferred a more positive end if that was all they got.

B

The Mighty Nein starts 20 years after the events of Vox Machina. But we should have 2 more seasons of Vox Machina before that 20 year gap starts. Also we'll most likely see him again in Vox Machina season 4 or (most likely) 5! It would be a shame not to adapt over some of the scenes involving him in Vox Machina.

SirFappington

the gave Beau way to much in this show. i personally like what happens in the streams way more. Beau is a better character in the show but she is still the least interesting character

RedSunCrusher!!!

dang 20 years after Vox Machina wow I wonder if they are still alive or dead I hope we find after Vox Machina ends.

Dimitri

I don't know if you guys remember but that imaginary elf was the one in vox machina that appeared as the butt satyr and aid them to get the bow and disappeared he is a trickster so he basically travels with different people and aids them, that's why he said Jester was his favourite but yea he is real and powerful

Gilthwixt

I'm pretty sure Jester and Molly both having unique, strong powers has nothing to do with them both being the same race. Don't be mad, but is it out of pocket for me to say that line of thinking has big "why do black people dominate every sport" energy?? 💀😭

Gilthwixt

Bro probably conning multiple followers and helping whoever has the best chances to do what he wants at any given time. Can't have all your eggs in one basket.

Oliverson

why spoil the name, that hasnt been revealed in VM or M9 yet...

Dimitri

Fixed it lol my bad

Vincent

I don't know if this is fully confirmed but I think the slur "crick" for the kryn (especially the drow/dark elves like essek) comes from the fact that they wear armor that makes them sound like insects (crickets) when they move, like you saw in the sewer scene at the end

Raider

3:44 Lupa with the Destiny reference 👀

Manny

Wait. This was the season finale?! I was assuming there was gonna be 12 epsiodes per season

Delinda Arts

Aye Trent…what you mean by that??

Bria A.

Nah, they traded off a longer episode run for longer runtimes it seems, which I hate. Why can't we have both? The people yearn for the return of the 23 episode season... I would've settled for 12 at an hour long each, if I had to.

Delinda Arts

I could be wrong, but isn’t the traveler that elf/nymph from Vox Machina when they were in that psychedelic forest?

ccadalin

Travis Willingham confirmed earlier this year that they've recorded all of Season 2 already so it's in the hands of the animators and post production to when the next season will be released. Hopefully end of 2026/start of 2027. As someone who is currently making their way through the C2 it will be interesting how much they cover/re-order events for S2 assuming it will be 8 eps again.

DevilMayCarter

8:07 If Nott knew Doctor Strange, could've gotten it for the free lol.

Fabian Jean louis

Guys the elf was in Vox Machina, The one that was talking through his ass hole

Mitchellguy101

No I definitely don’t like it. It gives the season a big “unfinished” look to it instead of its own complete thing. As a whole tho I have immensely enjoyed what they’ve done with the adaptation.

Jason Marbach

Obligatory: “mmmmmmakinmyway”

Jamaal Ellison

Hey Bria A. Sorry, it took so long to reply. I just checked my replies. I read somewhere that they were going to take a lot of liberties with the story and streamline a few things. I believe I heard a few of the cast members talking about it, maybe Matt. So yeah, I think that's kind of a good idea because it also incentivizes people who maybe have only watched the animated series to check out the campaign. So I'm not completely mad at that.

DevilMayCarter

Man, they turned Eadwulf into Dark Shadow! Also, one thing I really loved about this episode was how everybody's facials really came through. This was more action than dialogue focused for the finale, but facial expressions did a lot of heavy lifting.

Delinda Arts

IMO, they hoed Beau with that dress. Give shawty a black backless fishtail maxi dress and she gonna be looking bad af.

N

crick sliding off their tongue w hatred

maseken

Yall seen the traveler character design before 👀

Delinda Arts

“Crick” is so fuckin crazy lmao

Josue Dominguez

The bag is called the Bag of Holding, it is a pocket dimension. Its funny that Lupa said "what if you fall in the bag" because people make plans with that bag all the time. Dragging around corpses or jumping in the bag if you need to infiltrate somewhere, just be careful because you don't have a lot of air supply in the bag.

Bria A.

I mean fair but it was originally intended to be Jester's dress and she's very storybook feminine and loves pink lmao. It's also a callback to a campaign scene where Jester had Beau try on dresses! Beau's incredibly butch anyways so she tends to opt for suits for formal stuff.

Jamaal Ellison

I haven't started the episode Yet, I see people talking about ending. How bad could it be?

Bria A.

@B I have a feeling they're gonna have to put him in the next or last season given the one particular event lmfao

Frederick

They would end the season on a cliffhanger. 41:18 Also Sheera what are you talking about? 😂

Oliver

So what do you think? XD

Oliver

Vox Machina that Elven forest "goat guy" right?

Jamaal Ellison

I haven't finished it yet. I took a break to watch the thor doomsday trailer. I'm going to get right back on it.

JadonTheEternal

they didn't have time to make a whole new damn dress lmao, she just had to make Jester's work

StorySmith []

Held my silence for the series in yeah just as critical role said they made some crazy changes to the story. In all honesty I fine with all of it. Except for the drastic reduction in screen time yasha had.

Jamaal Ellison

I KNOW YOU FUCKING PLAYING!!! Nah next week is the finale.

Spriggz

I think Traveler is a dragon. Just a guess based on the eyes and how strong he seems to be

IanW645

So Molly and Jester are Tieflings and they can be created in a number of ways: Powerful entities having children with mortals. People making deals with Devils/demons or similar creatures which marks their soul or the souls of their descendants and that sometimes results in a child being born looking like that immediately or even 10 generations down the line after the original deal is long forgotten. And then Tieflings getting together themselves.

Jason Marbach

It’s gonna be worth it. Her story is going to be much better now. Trust.

Panda

I kinda like it, it does leave questions surrounding our cast but i don't think that could be helped. I feel like for plot though, we got to a really nice pause moment. Where the only real question is "did we actually end up with the dub or not?". Which i don't think is a bad one.

Seasick

that nigga ikithon was putting in work

Adrian Locke

BJORN SHEERA? 😭😭😭😭😭

UsrNmTkn

Hard disagree as someone who has never seen the streams. Beau is my favorite character of the main cast!

Disoma

I think she looks good.

UsrNmTkn

This was a great show! I can't lie. I like it more than VM. My favorite character of the main cast is for sure Beau. Which is surprising as my favorites are usually the Caleb type. But man I just love everything about her! And favorite side character has to be Essek. He is so interesting! I can't wait to see more of him and see who he becomes. It seems like he is going to go through a character arc that started with his mother dying.

Ayanda Mpofu

Still can't believe they left us ON THAT! Definitely need S2 soon. Also they did a great job with the mystery, it really feels like this still has potential to surpass Vox Machina.

Paul Reyes

I knew Sheera was bad with names, but my goodness 😂😂😂

Ace

Yea I’m hooked. Like this cast and plot way more than VM 😭

genie

great season. see you next year for Vox Machina season 4 and Mighty Nein season 2 at the end of the year.

the_remora

This ending has me wondering where they're going to end season 2 and if they do it where I think they will everybody's going to be so pissed. I expected to be when Ronan was born.

Sam

They killed it with this season. Glad you guys liked it! We get Vox and M9 next year (and campaign 4 has been awesome so far imo) so CR fans are getting treated so well

@llM1ghty

Just a 2 quick reminder. (1) Remember in Vox Machina where the party went to the spirit realm to retrieve the bow and met the goat man? The Traveler is the Goat Man. (2) The spirit realm time runs differently. 2 days in the spirit realm, 2 weeks in normal time. Jester have not seen the Traveler for 2 weeks. The 2 shows are connected.

DatKid_Kaneki

thats what i was saying. he looks MAD familiar im ngl

DatKid_Kaneki

essek was putting btw lowk i really wish he clutched ngl lol. kinda needed the win but now we fs know hes getting tortured n turned into something idk. or reformed

Krype

Idk as a season finale was kinda lackluster

Jaelyn Mcgee

Yuup. One of my favorite plays was to have the rogue hide in the bag of holding and then find a way to let everyone else in

Jaelyn Mcgee

Yeah. I love getting to see archmage characters get to cut loose in fiction and animation, cause as long as they're capable of preparing, they're basically one mage armies. I am curious if any of his major spells will be recognizable though given the restrictions that they're under.

Jaelyn Mcgee

Nott's flask is an actual enchanted item they made for her character in the setting but its pretty easy to get ahold of in dnd . My character was an alcoholic, who had a similar variant but it would let you drink and get drunk without getting hungover. She'd use her paladin immunity to disease to avoid getting serosis of the liver.

StorySmith []

I know it never happened in the campaign but I desperately want CR to pull the bag of holding inside a bag of holding trick! These guys would loose heir minds at the consequences of such an act

Miguel NoName

Why not? In RPGs different races have different race attributes. So demons could be good at blood magic for example

WillGlacier

Ngl I'm mad dissapointed they ended on 8 episodes and not 9 smh

WillGlacier

Oh btw since he has shown up now, yeah the Traveler is that satyr from Vox Machina (after they left the Faywild, the satyr transformed into his true form, aka the traveler. So he was basically just doing one big prank following them as JUST a satyr)

Jaelyn Mcgee

Lupa isn't wrong with the Sukuna finger comparison. Warlocks like Fjord have abilities called invocations that allow them custom abilities as a power up. So far in addition to his pact blade, he's got Gift of the Depths, which let's him breathe underwater, Mask of many faces which let's him disguise himself,...maybe bewitching whispers which is what allowed him to charm the guards, and just now Devi's Sight which let's him see even in magical darkness as well as potentially the Blight Spell which is what he used on the Krynn solider. I'm curious to see what other abilities they plan on giving him since they've made so many changes to the story.

I VisiBomb I

I don't like the traveler reveal being so early. at least put him in his cloaked hood and reveal his identity later, this was hella rushed...

I VisiBomb I

It was fkn rushed yo. took 94 episodes to confirm his identity in the campaign and here they just served it on a platter right away... I don't even think theres a good reason for it other than if the production team isn't sure how many seasons they get so they rather push it out now than miss the opportunity to show it later.

Imari

I didn’t realize it was the same guy in vox but also I think keeping his identity hidden too long would make people dislike jester so that might be why they did that

Bob

Have they watched dota yet?

Krype

I thought this show was like 20 years or so ahead of Vox?

@llM1ghty

The reference of the Chroma Conclave from the guards and the Travelers appearance shows that there are changes to both the show and game.

Td Jd

does mighty nein becomes eventualy nine members like in season 3 perhaps ?

Gravity

everyones good on that

Sauceless

Wheres season 2?

ViralCorgi

41:23 LMFAO Sheera's just like me fr 🤣 🤣 I can't for the life of me remember names 💀😭😂

ViralCorgi

I like Sheera theory, but I think he's real too just because she has such a flamboyant imagination, and his character doesn't seem to match that lol

Gwyn

If you fall into the bag, you get 10 minutes of air divided by the people in the bag, after that, you're cooked.

Gwyn

Don't think so but that'd be a dope reaction

Shiki Granbell

Molly and Jester are just tieflings, there’s nothing too special about them other than their place of orgin

MonarchXIII

Overall it was a strong start to season 1 imo. I liked most of the changes made from the campaign and for the most part, the changes made sense from a pacing standpoint. "Orphan Maker" could barely be called a character in the actual campaign for a huge chunk of it (not Ashley's or anyone else's fault though). So I actually like the changes they're doing with her so far. I like it more than Vox Machina personally. Hopefully we get season 2 soon!

Nico

Annoyed they had Jester called out Lord Sharpe on the list, only for the show to not show him during the party at all (as far as I remember). Guess it was just so we had a chance to see The Traveler.

Nico

Glad y’all also clocked how weird Traveler’s reaction to Jester saying “my friends” was, like does bro not like her having people??

Diggs

Yeah I saw in some of the art that he was cloaked. I feel like they should've done that instead like you said.

rrrebo

OMFG I have a chest cold right now, and Sheera with "BJORN" just about fucking killed me with a laughing coughing fit! My family from the other room "YOU ALL RIGHT?"

rrrebo

So, the Kryn are based on traditional D&D dark elves, aka Drow. They live in perpetual darkness (the dome from Episode 1), and are intrinsically magical. In traditional D&D, they are also typically evil, prone to infighting and betrayal in a hotly-contested internal political structure. The Kryn don't appaear to have that aspect of them. One of their standard spells is literally "Darkness" because they are used to the dark and are skilled blindfighters. That is what they cast in the tunnel right before Yasha fucked 'em up.

howwlll

There's not much reason for him to play a big part, especially with Jester no longer there, but Beau does walk by him at 15:00

Mavie

What’s so racist about polymorphing into a giant bird? I thought that was awesome

Gravity

cuz it kinda looked like a crow is my guess lol. More of a joke from the guys then serious

Gravity

I think its so funny Beau just hid her shoulders so she doesn't look ripped

Sauceless

Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk i need more

Raventerrace

Man when we getting season 2
