With the canceling of this show, I'm guessing the writers wanted to try and get Dream as fully realized as possible, but I do agree that this season isn't as good as the first, there isn't anytime to breath between Dream coming to his realizations, not only that but Dream isn't coming to this realizations on his own, so far the repeated nature has been someone tells him he has fucked up, and then slowly agrees..and then undoes his mistake. Considering all the plot points they are dealing with, this seamed like it might of needed to be 3 seasons, season 2 dealing with Hell & Nadia and then 3 dealing with Loki, Daniel. I don't mind a slow burn, I don't mind mind broodiness, but there is a feeling rushed, that all the episodes have, and maybe it can't be helped considering the cancelation and what not.

Roshi has a point about it being rushed. They're speeding thru Seasons of Mist, Brief Lives, the Kindly Ones, and the Wake, 4 arcs where last season just had 2. And they totally skip things that would have been fun to watch like the Game of You. Probably one of the best that could have been turned into live action. Skipping the story in the Necropolis Letharge also takes away the last scene. I guess they just wanted to make sure they reach the end of the story.

You guys are forgetting Constantine is a family name. They showed in the last season that her lineage is intertwined with dream. It's just the same actress playing her entire family, essentially.

The situation with Paul is where the show loses me because like they really could have let Dream out in s1 and "He was just doing what his dad told him to" - is a weak ass response tbh. I understand that the story wants to show that Dream needs to grow and change but like....they could have used another example or left that out. Its giving disney channel: "Let bygones be bygones for your crimes :)"

You're right about the season being rushed. If you want to experience the story with proper pacing, you'd have to listen to the audible drama. It's a full production just with no visuals. Sound design is amazing. World's better then the TV adaptation. Especially season 2.

Yeah.... Season 2 should have been split into S2 and S3. The show runners claim it was always meant to end with S2. But many believe it was because the creator, Neil Gaiman, was in the middle of some controversy and basically getting cancelled.

Lol, they are not being truthful. I specifically remember them and Gaiman saying they are planning 5 seasons and want to up to Overture. They even set up Overture last season (When Morpheus tells Rose that the last time he didn't kill a Vortex like he was supposed to, a whole world was lost) Edit: Found Neil's tweet. "The plan is to tell the whole story, from Preludes and Nocturnes up to Sandman Overture"

I feel the hard opposite. If it weren't for your reactions, I would have never have watched s1, too many storylines near the end bored me, hated the Jed walker and his sisters story. This season (to me) is focused on Dreams perspective, and feels more mythological personally. Also, Dream like the gods of Greek mythology and others, is a piece of shit, so I don't mind a season of consequences for his actions. Again, that mixed with different mythological aspects of this season, Orpheus, Destruction, Nada and Lucifer leaving Hell, remind me more of stories I read about mythological types growing up.

AFAIK in regards to why besides the Neil Gaiman situation forcing it to be rushed and no more seasons, is that S1 adapted about 20 issues, while S2 adapted the remaining 55 in basically the same amount of episodes (1 extra)

Tbf slime was always political it just has way less action in the middle parts of the story which gets overcompensated in the last third of it.

Unfortunately the show was cancelled early. They intended more season but the book author was outed as a sexual predator so the show was cancelled and they had to speed run thru the rest of the comic

The issue with the pacing is that this is the sequential story that the books give you it's just cut out all the one off stories that take place in Dreams past which really wouldn't be feasible to make into whole episodes.

So basically what I'm seeing is that sandman got the god of highschool treatment but the opposite. Instead of having at least a good amount of action with the story it's more story driven and more character development but rushed and not in a good way. It sucks that this show only got two seasons it definitely would've been beneficial if it had more seasons but apparently the author is a sexual predator so goodbye to the rest of sandman unfortunately.

Yeah those stories were fantastic and what I remember most from reading it, from MartianManHunter to Bast to the city in the jar they just teased. I think the show has top notch quality in many areas, but it’s hard for someone new to the story to just be given the A plot without the B, C and D plots that broaden your understanding of this individual. I remember there was like an ancient party that happened in the stars with the gods or something like that. Shame we won’t see it in the show.

Yeah unfortunately its just not viable in a serialised show even in an animated format I think it would struggle considering just how often the main character isn't around as much as he's a terrible person Gaiman was a good enough character to keep people engaged but things like A Game of You would be deal breakers for some.

it’s wasn’t canceled in a sense cuz the story of season 2 ends where the books do so technically there was no more story 😂 & to top it off n cut ties completely Neil Gaiman the creator of the show got accused of multiple sexual assault, rape & coercion like a damn weirdo 🤦‍♂️

Haven’t played the God of War games so when I heard the Ratatosk mention, I thought of Ratatosk from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (a sequel far more inferior than the original, but also sort of a guilty pleasure for me)

using the same actress and giving the characters the same exact first name was one of the many fumbles of the series. want to make john constantine a woman? ok, then make joahanna constantine a man. both gender swapped and no confusion. want them to both be women? fine. have them played by two different actresses. just because she is not gender swapped doesnt mean john constantine cant still have short BLONDE hair. so many ways they could have had their cake and eat it too. this was not the way

totally disagree. this is like the comics and love it. the majority of the comic isnt big arcs. its a thinking man's series, thats why its slow, dramatic and full of monologues. its to get you to think and learn and ponder not to be excited like a super hero comic. season one also had a bunch of mini arcs. dream is locked up and then he got free. next arc is reestablishing his kingdom, did that and moved on to this special girl with dream powers. interlaced are a bunch of other little arcs for everyone including having a human take his powers and become a whole super villain. the story has always been about dream and his life: what he learns, what he does, how he effects others and how they effect him. i honestly dont feel like its a speed run as its been very slowly building to daniel becoming king. they set that up in episode one and didnt do anything with it til like ep 7 when the baby was kidnapped and dream revealed in exact words why the baby is so important. we now have 4 episodes (counting this one) to go through that arc.
