Never thought about it, but that adds more to the story, because you might think then that Eren succedeed in killing everyone but those on Paradise Island, but then society continued to crumble within the island. So he changed it by influencing the past and thereby also causing a bootstrap paradox.

Basically everlasting events that was always going to happen regardless of what he did. And looking back at it now, he really did put everything in play essentially becoming his own paradox. Becoming a slave to himself even when he thought he achieved freedom. Quite literally all of AOT is Eren as the author trying to change events that he thinks he is changing, but sadly has already done so at another point in time he just doesn't know it until it's too late to change anything, to understand he is the reason for damn near all of AOT.

Pausing to say that idk what exactly old Claudia's apology was about (it could probably just be a general "I'm sorry for several things that are about to happen to you", and also looking at adult Claudia's relationship to old Egon it could just be an "I'm sorry I treated you badly" on top of that) -- but to be fair, going out via cancer is tragic and horrible regardless of how much time he got, so as much as I don't really care for Egon as a character I do feel bad. ...And yeah, I know so much of the heavily seasoned Egon-Ulrich beef is because of time travel paradox influence/vibes at different periods of their lives, but he's abrasive to me in a way that's annoying. I don't even like Ulrich that much but he's SO interesting; I also respect him for being a generational crashout on behalf of his son and being mostly immune to Hannah's delusions lmao
