The thing about the dark witch that I didn't notice until I saw their reaction to the first episode, is that the things he was mentioning was things from her future. The carriage, the animals, the golden path that her mom mentions maybe an hour later. Maybe they used a spell to know that, but it's interesting because that leads me to believe the witch would know even more than that. So maybe there is a deeper play beyond simply causing chaos, which is what Lupa and Sheera seemingly believe to be the case. Maybe her existence as a witch will bring hope to witches that magic can be spread to more people. Idk, but I do find it fascinating that the witch would give a kid something so powerful.

If I had to narrow down the one thing that makes this series stand out from other fantasy anime, I think it's probably the magic system. It's very logical and thorough.

I'm so glad this series didn't get the Beginning After The End treatment. Like every panel is art, the drawings sometimes reach into other panels, and overall this series is a love letter to art (you'll see that as the series goes on). But one thing that immediately stood out to me is that the magic system was crafted with so much care. I won't spoil anything but there are so many moments where real world caution/concerns in crafting a spell comes into play. I wish the manga was more consistent but that's literally my only gripe with the serries.

Yes Lupa! The cool thing about Witch Hat, is that the signs and sigils are consistent (at least in the manga). If you actually take the time to learn them all, you can accurately predict what the spell is going to do before you even see it in action.

It'll always be fun watching y'all's reaction to certain series I've been invested in. I've been waiting to see this adapted since it got that announcement. So, as the manga-reader (no I won't spoil lol): the artistic depictions they do (pop-up books, during explanations, etc.) is quite normal throughout the manga, so I'm glad they're showing that in these first 2 eps. I wish I could say more on the brief discussion at the end, alas, that's spoilers. Hope y'all enjoy this one, very, very good story imo

I definitely think the person who gave the book to Coco is an agent of chaos and wants to disrupt things. But I also can't help but find the hierarchy of witches suspicious as well. The Pact was made by people who deemed themselves "good" enough to gate-keep magic and wipe out everyone else's memories. That type of overreach of power and control that gives you authority to decide who's "worthy" of handling magic feels like a slippery slope, especially since it's apparently been done for generations -- who's to say the telling of the history is even accurate atp? Definitely does remind me of Silo in a lot of ways. I'm excited to see where things go.

Maybe. Or they’re just spreading magic to everyone that happens to cross their path. If you spread the seeds of chaos and destruction as far and wide as possible, it’ll make it that much more difficult for your pursuers to find your trail. Especially if they’re stuck running around, putting out all the fires your actions caused.

One thing I don't get is if the guy that gave Coco the book and "wand" wanted to spread magic to others then why not tell them directly how to use magic, if it wasn't for her spying on Qifey there was no way she would've thought to draw magic.

Yo i ain't even into witches and shit in anime but FUUUHHHH am i messin with this show heavy!!! That first ep got me so invested into both characters & the potential of the show. First ep was so simply done with amazing animation. Sometimes keeping it simple is defo the way to go. And i can already tell this is finna have some great pacing. I love the MC, she is so wholesome and inquisitive & so easy to root for and also after this ep Im really messin with Argott's energy. I can't wait for some backstory on her as well

Dude I legit hope that as the show goes on you'll start understanding what certain sigils mean until you can actually kind of understand what a magic circle translated to. Kind of reminds me of when I started learning coding and it went from random ass symbols and words to being somewhat understandable

Im guessing because they would only be able to heal each other. Healing normal people would mean the secret coming out since they would draw on them. And if they could heal themselves, there would always be an instance where a witch would want to heal a normal person who’s their lover. And the secret is out.

so one thing going into this I think is good and helps with learning. Don't think of these witches like uber powerful spellcasters from DnD or Harry Potter. Witches are like mechanics, artists and sages in this. Not weapons or government tools like that.

I COULDN'T BE IN THIS WORLD BECAUSE I WOULD DEFY THE RULES OF FORBIDDEN MAGIC. I would pre-draw legal but possibly volatile spells on pieces of paper, carry some while leaving others partially incomplete, and attach them to weapons and other items I had on deck, as if I had a Naruto paper kunai or JJK tool. Then I would have my finger tips pre-dipped in ink so that if I wanted to use them, I could simply finish the circle and go off people.

I've wondered as well as to why Qifrey is living with four girls. It's very easy to find a post about it. In short, one of the girls each symbolizes a season, inspired by Greek mythology. - Spring (pink eyes/hair) = Tetia - Summer (yellow eyes/hair) = Coco - Autumn (dark purple eyes/black hair) = Agott - Winter (blue eyes/hair) = Richet There's more to it, apparently, but that is a potential spoiler, so I didn't read further myself.

Please do! The anime is gorgeous, but the interplay between the art and panels blew my mind. The mangaka basically made it like one of those super fancy European fairy tail books. Tons of ornamentation, and the art sometimes extends into other panels as well

19:57 this reminds me of the Blue Prince game; there was a segment where you learned what the stamp of a royal family meant. It went over the outer circle's shape, the symbols in the corners and the center (from my faint memory), and then using what you leaned all the shapes and hieroglyphs meant, you were to decipher what the family crest stood for, as in what family, what region (Some symbols meant dessert, forest, island, etc.), and some other things I can't remember now. Point is, it was a really cool puzzle in my personal opinion that felt almost like learning to write a sentence in caligraphy in a different language like Japanese or something.

Two episodes in and this is shaping up to be one of my favorite anime. THe magic system is well thought out, logical and leaves a lot to the imagination. Qifrey is an excellent teacher and he genuinely seems to care about his students and took time to show Coco what she's up against, encouraging her to see beyond her mistake so that she can be the best witch she can be. The magic system kinda reminds me of connecting circuits in my physics class - once you know all the components and how they work, where and how to place them, and what obstacles you may encounter to keep them from working you can do simple things like light up a little LED bulb to more advanced stuff like building a processor or computer or something. This shit is amazing; 10/10 show and reaction so far!
