okay my theory, we still don’t know what the gift off the brimmed hat guy is. if you go back to the episode where they escape the dragon, before the scene on the street fades to black coco’s ink pot stays in frame and illuminated longer than everything else, so i think the gift from the brimmed cap is something to do with the ink in her pot and that’s what made coco’s spell go haywire

Only ways i can see this being explained is: 1. Coco’s ink was tampered with during their encounter with the Brimhat during their visit to the ink and pen shop. 2. Due to the spell being something she was never taught, and only saw being drawn, she messed it up by subconsciously drawing extra shit she “learned” from the forbidden magic book. (Doesn’t help that that spell was the first ever thing she drew. Maybe it turned into a subconscious habit of adding new lines that turns spells into forbidden ones) 3. The forbidden spell she accidentally drew had an effect on the human who drew it to have uncontrollable chain reactions of spreading any spell that’s rock related. (Her forbidden spell was like a crystalline or something) or just any spell that can spread

This is my understanding as well, you could literally trace qifrey's spell from the other episode and just spawn water dragons all day, thats why magic knowledge is so dangerous.

I think she was SET UP by the Brimmed Cap that snatched her up in ep 5. They kept focusing on her hat in this ep and in ep 5 the Brimmed Cap Witch talked about giving her a "gift" and then transformed into her hat, implying it was tampered with in some way. It probably had a forbidden spell on it that could amplify her magic. I think it was intentional we didn't see her draw it -- so to the viewers (and Agott) it almost looks like Coco is guilty of making a mistake. The Brimmed Caps are probably trying to turn regular witches against her so she'll have no choice but to choose them if she wants to save her mom.

I hope next ep we'll see Agott coming to Coco's defence despite not seeing her draw the spell. With the way she has mistreated and judged Coco from the beginning, that turnaround would be a great redemption for a character. And sis needs it bc she's high key still so annoying 😭

I was thinking that the spell she drew, she didn't have a proper boundary so it kept turning rock into stone but the river also evaporating threw me off. Absolutely love the magic system in this show.

Seems like it’s a result of the brimmed cap intervention with coco. Maybe she had her magic messed up and now magic she casts gets twisted into random stuff she doesn’t realize yet.

I don't think thats a memory wipe lol I think the brim capped did something to her stuff. I think they replaced her wand or her ink, im leaning towards the ink cuz Quifrey is investigating whats in the ink. The ink she used on the spell was different and changed the spell? Maybe? Just a guess

Casting magic on a person is generally forbidden. But there are also specific spells that are considered forbidden as well, even when drawn on paper. The spell Coco made in EP 1 is an example of that.

I was saying since like episode 2 that I would combine magic circle into weapons to make JJK like tools! Glad to see that they have some. Time to make some magic guns and bullets. I was thinking earlier from the way Aggot was acting that she was going to become a “sasuke” as a foil the “Naruto”in Coco with the way she was being to ambitious but it seem like I was jumping the gun. Yo so does that mean one innate power or internal aptitude applies to spells too and not just precision and complexity. Cause I thought all spells had the same power level and what only matters was the skill to determine its effectiveness and output until now. How did she a cliff into a beach by just copying a friend’s spell, especially since she still been sloppy at drawing them well?!!

I don't think Coco did any of that at all. Meaning: not only do I not think it was her fault, I don't actually think that scene exists? I think the cop guy might just be a dick and is pulling some sort of psychological illusion shit to get her to confess or show the worst case scenario, because what do you mean no one noticed any of that until just now. Granted, this might fall apart because that'd mean the knight is *also* doing forbidden magic, but hey, since when are cops not hypocrites. (I'm willing to concede if I'm wrong next episode lmao). If it IS real, I agree with others that it's likely Brimmed Cap sabotage.

Im pretty sure magic power dosent exists in this anime. Its all based on the spells u draw thats why magic is kept a secret because anyone can do it if they trace the right pattern.
