Keep in mind that after Anna got married she likely left Julius' residency and his life. He saw that as a betrayal and made him think she lied to him that people liked the kind him.. So he sort of saw it that kindness wasn’t enough to keep her in his life, so he grew up thinking the opposite of that was what she actually would have wanted

I think Julius is starting, hopefully, understand that the kindness he was shown by Will and his crush was one out care not attraction and is partially confusing the two. Given his background and his family is unsure if even anyone bother to spend the time teach him social normals and social behaviors. I have seen this in some kids and friends who as they grow up don’t understand things for what they are.
