Ugh again I could fawn over ths manga, and the anime adaptation all day. The boat's "motor" wasn't even in the manga, but the block to complete the circle was so freaking cool. Also I love the efficiency in world building. In 10 eps we know A LOT about the world, magic, rules of magic +, rules of the pointed caps, some of the brim hats' goals and methods, and to some degree the political landscape. And, almost most importantly, the series continues to make magic feel both logical enough for us to grasp, while also allowing it to still come off as wondrous. And the world feels incredibly lived in, without just seeming like stuff exists for the sake of checking things off a "magical world checklist". Also...I wonder how they're gonna pace this next arc with so few episodes left. Or if they'll just treat it like a cour 1 so they can kinda just leave the resolution in cour 2. EIther way...shit gets real from here on our

This is a textbook example of amazing writing and character progression. 90% of this episode was in the hospital room with Coco and Tartah yet the author/artist/animators were still able to tell a compelling story, flesh out a side character, deepen the world-building, and have the audience hooked while setting up questions to be answered. Nothing felt unnecessary, you feel the slight bit of unease or tension when it comes up, you experience a bit of what it's like for Tartah and how he's been treated because of his disability. This story is a masterpiece!

I know you peeped the shadow when qifrey was standing but that awkward vibe he gave tartah was no fluke, qifrey Atleast so far doesn’t seem like he’ll be awkward in conversations. So he intentionally made the conversation hard to continue, thats scary

I wonder did the show intentionally have the temporary solid forms of the powder be white so that the viewer could perceive plants in the same perspective as the boy does due to his visual impairment and to further emphasize how he well he observes form over color? Also it feels like the show is trying to set up a future conflict where outsiders and witches have serious beef with each other due to their perception of magic and one another. Since now it's confirmed that multicolor and inverse layout are things that affect spells, this opens up a new bag of things, like how the author might make color theory play a role in this story. One thing that could mean is that an inverse of a spell could be the opposite color AND sigil position for certain spells.

Was Toph a good one? She was blind sure but also just completely op and her blindness was basically a superpower. That's not really good representation. This show actually shows his real struggle and showcases how even despite that there are pathways he can take to succeed. Toph was just like Daredevil where blindness = new power. Or those old movies showcasing autistic kids as some kind of geniuses.

Tophs blindness was not a superpower, lacking. It was compensation and her learning how to navigate a world where it shouldn't be possible. So yes, she was good disability representation. She was put in many situations and fought many people where her blindness had limits and she needed help from others or work arounds. And disabled people can still be extraordinary which is the point of her character. You can argue that Tartah is better, sure. But you can't say Toph is bad disability representation whatsoever. And only reason it seems like Toph isnt good is because we werent shown the years of work she put into being the greatest

They mentioned the magic dyes a couple episodes ago when Qifrey mind wiped the old man. Tartah was explaining a few to Coco like some that can make the spell last longer or some that can make the magic circle invisible etc.

I got 36-ish more chapters to read til I'm caught up with the manga. THIS IS PEAK. As long as they don't pull a Demon Slayer when it gets to the end and take a million years for ONE arc into 3 movies with another arc after to finish (unless they blend it into the last movie, which would be weird, if my math is correct, the last arc can be an entire season, but we'll see, DS Manga ended in 2020 and we not finishing it up the anime till 2030 most likely 😒). Well yes thats why she's not good. We're shown nothing of the struggle, only the "success" part. Her blindness is only sometimes a slight inconvenience in a fight. That's not half as good as Tartah.

As a disabled person...we saw plenty of her struggle? She can't read. She can't write. She needs assistance on any terrain that isn't even ground. I will admit that A:tLA can *slightly* lack in truly in-depth solo character development (strictly because of its formatting, its preference for "arcs", and the wider threat of the war making it less of a character study show), but not in this regard. And even all that aside... disabled people aren't a monolith. Not every one of them needs to overly struggle or is significantly maladapted to the world around them. But that doesn't make Toph lesser representation.

It's so crazy that this show constantly make me feel like something terrible is about to happen. Even when everything is super nice and wholesome there's this constant feeling of dread. Roshi and the others feel it too. That's why almost every episode they're always acting like Qifrey is just going to snap over something, or some enemy will just fucking appear out of nowhere.
