Whoa wait ...the car stealing scene by the middle schoolers in beginning of eps. reminds me of the South Korea true crime case where a teenage delivery driver got struck by a stolen car full of middle schoolers going full speed thru a red light and the just kept going knowing they hit someone. The parents of that case acted just like the ones here at the end of eps but also the teenagers knew they wouldn't be punished for murdering that teenage boy due to them being minors. It was a really sad case I saw on YouTube yrs ago.

Practially Incarnate

So, Article 9 of the Korean Criminal Code stipulates, “The act of a person under fourteen years of age shall not be punished.” This means that children under 14 are below the age of criminal responsibility in South Korea. By law, children aged 10 to 13 cannot be held criminally liable for offenses. They are often referred to as “Criminal Minors" which means they are youth exempt from criminal punishment. If a child under 14 breaks the law, they will not face criminal prosecution, but instead, their case is automatically referred to the Family Court’s juvenile division for protective proceedings. There have even been cases where kids committed murder but due to being younger than 14 they couldn't be formally punished. Another great show I've seen that tackles Juvenile Court is Juvenile Justice, which I think I have seen be recommended to you a few times.

Literally had to deal with teenagers shooting Roman candles running in the streets and driving recklessly while doing it when I went on a trip down down south. I get hit with one of the fireworks and they sideswiped someone's brand new car scratching the side paint off completely. It was ridiculous

Blackest Knight

I knew this was based on a real case, but never had details. Thanks for that!

No problem. Rotten Mango did a YouTube video on it

It's ambiguous at best the law is designed to prevent children from being abused by the legal system. The problem is according to the law it people that are considered minors with the official cut off being 16 years old at 14 higher charges are in consideration. For example action like murder. The reason for this is the brain development and when it was created it was consider someone below an age couldn't understand the crimes they committed. That being said the system has another gap and that's juvenile offenders often have their charges sealed once they turn 18. Hence why he said 4 year and why the ML want to kill the person that killed his wife. Not sure if it been overturned but it was kind of a legal loophole in Korea.

Juvenile justice is great!! And yes, rly goes more into the exact kind of conflict in this episode. It’s also a plus for the similar cast to this drama

Koda

you guys would enjoy juvenile justice

britt

im assuming this is based off the case where a bunch of 14 year olds stole a car and hit and killed a 18 yr old delivery driver. they got off because the kids couldnt be tried and they were bragging about it on socials

Random Guy

Honestly it's a very great concept... in my country the rise in juvenile crimes are going up because they don't get punished.

Mikey

What was the outcome of the case?

Spricey

A scared straight episode was funny af but compared to the other episodes where it centers around a policy with an evidence base or the role of someone that helps everyone it's like yeah you take accountability or you gotta get tried

Spricey

Lamilton would never

Black_Star

Ive lowkey been trying to throw hints at them to watch Juvenile justice under each teach you a lesson reaction 😄 I watched it after I finished this series myself and it scratched the exact itch I was looking for. Not only was the writing dope it was really informative

Don't Care

Those kids in the beginning were not just "driving without a license and traffic violations", wtf? They were assaulting people with fireworks, and attempted murder driving through the outside dining area and almost driving through an active crosswalk. Wtf is with the logic of this show? It's ridiculous lmao

Keywii

As soon as they noticed those boys trying to get into cars the writers should have had Glasses muttering quietly to himself “Oh no. no. no. not tonight.” while slipping out the car.

The logic of this show is based off of true cases that have occurred in South Korea. Ex. The last episode is based off a true case, but the teacher actually did take their own life. This episode is based off a true case, but they struck a car, and that person died. The 14-year-olds involved in the incident walked away with no charges.

south korea has very few juvenile prisons and only 10 detention centers (behavioral correction) nation wide. most likely they need a judge to sign off on what they want to classify the kids as and then send them to the appropriate site but they can also be over crowded since there are so few of them. i dont see them getting punished until they seriously harm someone. so far its light vandalism and joy riding.

rickie woodson

yep. basically, unless you kill someone, you are untouchable as a minor in korea with very few instances of "you are going to be an example to society". we saw this in the glory as well and they mentioned it here: korean culture has this concept of settlement. basically mediation instead of going to court. you sign the paper saying you forgive the person for whatever they did and they give you money to make it "all right". case closed cause the person you harmed has "forgive you". that and warnings is what will keep the kids running amuck

There was this case, and correct me if I'm wrong, about a group of students who stole a car and drove it way past the normal speed limit, crashing into another kid doing deliveries to help his mom, who was struggling financially. That group of kids didn't even stop to check; they just kept on driving. They were all minors, under 14 years old to be exact, and were let off with a slap on the wrist. If I remember correctly, only the driver and one other kid got placed into juvenile correction. I'm pretty sure they were let out because they wanted kids not to be robbed of their "futures," which is completely bullshit since they robbed someone of theirs.

If they had any ounce of intelligence they would have decided to lay low the second their path crossed the ERPB.
