The previous showrunner was fired before S1 released but the scripts and storyboards for S2 were finished by then. Some additional writers were brought in as well, probably to tweak/alter things. You can see that every episode has the previous guy (Beau DeMayo) along with 1-3 others given writing credits.

The stuff they did with Gambit was weird I didn't like it and it got resolved way too quickly the final fight was anticlimactic asf. And my biggest complaint was what they did with Magik cause what the heck was that sh!t. I'm thinking she would come back as a horseman but nah she stayed dead from the stupidest thing to ever kill her a fricking laser of all things that she could've easily avoided. Rest in peace to two goats they didn't deserve to go out like that. Oh and I liked the Polaris/Danger episode that was really good too but other than that this season was just a mess. And I hope season 3 returns to the former glory of season 1.

There's something to be said about wanting to like something and not just liking something. X-Men 97 is a good show, a great show, that doesn't mean it can't have a second season slump like many other great animated shows have had. Nightcrawler was such a huge emotional reservoir last season and he came in midway through. For that being the payoff for Kurt and not feel anything makes me a little cross ngl. Never thought Bastion would be the better bad over Apocalypse but hey. Hope they can rebound for Season 3.

The beginning where they continued the Apocalypse storyline was fine, but the X-Factor and X-Force stuff felt rushed and not much nuance. Danger episode and everything else felt like disconnected filler. Still liked it but hopefully S3 is better.

I feel like they tried to do what the old cartoons did where they had standalone episodes that were meant for world building and character development. The problem is that, you can’t do that with only 9 episodes. They also built up not ONE but TWO major storylines. But then decided to half ass both. Wasn’t a bad season but it definitely was disappointing

So much shit was rushed this season from Wolverine getting his adamantium back to Gambit being revived as a horseman. They sidetracked way too much from the Apocalypse plot to the point where I have no idea what his ultimate goal was. Why did he specifically want to revive gambit and steal his body? It’s such a shame because of how strong we started only to really fumble the ball in the end.

it's because the celestials are picky eaters and need more powerful humans to populate the Earth whether they be mutants or not. Apocalypse would cull the 'weak', and so was given a celestial bbl or something in exchange. That's pretty much it, that's why Eson always mentioned life when speaking to Apocalypse or Nightcrawler. He was intrigued with what Nightcrawler was saying about more life via sacrifice, especially since Apocalypse will be missing until some other season.

i feel like this show is being held back by marvel tv show writing. No identity, plays it too safe, no thorough message or impact it wants to leave the audience with.

The problem is that they treated the season like it would have 22 episodes instead of 9, 20-minute episodes. The overarching plot was lost after Magneto died. The Wolverine (way too rushed), Polaris, and Danger Room episodes were not necessary. They flew through the storylines way too quickly. They didn't acknowledge what was happening. After Magneto died, we don't even see how the team processed his death, especially Rogue. The X-Factor and X-Force stuff was forced into the narrative and was too quick. The season should have focused on the rise of Apocalypse. We should have spent more time in the Past/ future with the teams. Magneto's death should have happened in Episode 6/7. The episode after that should have been them processing the loss and trying to envision a new path forward. Then the season should have ended with Gambit becoming the Horseman and coming to Rogue.

That was another thing I noticed about this season. The dialogue was weak, especially after Magneto died. Season 1 had so many memorable lines from different characters, not just Magneto, especially from Cyclops and Storm. "Make them mind your weather, and them weather your mind" is still one of my favorite lines in the show. We didn't get those kinds of conversations between the characters this Season.

You can tell they took Beau’s path for the first half and then the What If disney writers took over. They definitely cramed so many storylines and tbh they did the first season too but they also stayed on one linear story the whole season.

The problem with this season is they didn't have enough episodes they spent half the season building up next season which is stupid either they needed more episodes or they should have focused on the whole season on apocalypse. Wasn't a bad season just not peak like the first season

This season was pretty good for a cartoon. It's just season 1 was way above what it had any right to be lol. It still did great with Nightcrawler and the whole "faith" angle, but Gambit should've been death for longer than an episode, that should've been an arc. However in season 1 they did also wrap certain things up pretty quick, like oh you're the Goblin queen, done, it just felt... different... I hope they give them more episodes in future seasons.

yall mystique truthers just gotta take your L lol she didnt replace val til NOW, it was NOT mystique all along. its ok. i didnt see this ending coming at all. rogue celestial? nightcrawler dying? gampocalypse? all my predictions were wrong. mystique did replace val in the comics but it was after they established a friendship and working relationship. wonder if they will fit that in as established lore? would have been great if they had mystique in her raven darkholme form first and then val walks in "raven. what are you doing at my desk" and she shoots val, turns into mystique, and then into val. then we would have known mystique was just deep undercover working for the government all this time and made the betrayal hit harder. oh well. ass season but im hyped for season 3. no more of beau's scripts for them to butcher; mystique is back!; brotherhood and surge are coming; hopefully they will focus on the kids more next season. beau had planned for season 3 to be AOA and for kitty pryde and colossus to join the team this season in the present day during the time lost period on an x-men team lead by bishop. what could have been. please x-men and comic book gods, bring in my girl kitty for season 3!

that the case. they changed everything beau laid out. apocalypse was just to be established this eason and be the big bad for season 3. this was suppose to be onsluaght's season with episodes 9 and 10 being a big fight with him after the reveal in episode 8. after magneto's death he would have taken over charle's completely and secretly doing evil shit from behind the scenes. x-corp was supposed to be a more militarized version of the x-men. realizing they couldnt defeat him and what caused onslaught to be made (magneto being absorbed into charles' mind) polaris uses the time machine to go back in time and kill magneto the night at that bar seen in season 1 episode 10. charles jumps in front of the blasts and dies instead, creating the AOA for season 3. they scrapped that and kitty pryde coming in as well as making bishop the lead xman with polaris this season. he also made their flirtation a full on relationship instead of just being hinted at. he said in an interview done last year, they made him combine episodes 9 and 10 to rush through this new plot they got. sounds to me like they knew they wanted to axe him so they was like "yeah you're done but while you're here, finish your stuff up quick so we can have our new writer focus on the new direction" also: thats one less episode to pay for as well as dont have to pay creatives for. disney aint slick

I do understand how y'all feel about the finale. I do kinda feel like we could have lingered on people's reaction to Kurt's sacrifice a bit more. I think the main problem most agree with it about this show is that it needs more episodes. 13 or 20 at best much like action cartoons from back in the day. As the first season was also criticize by some for trying to cram in so many different stories in a small number of episodes 🤨 . Ergo, if any streaming show needs more than 9 or 10 episodes it is this one 😅. I'm also convinced that if both seasons had more episodes then the "filler" or the standalone stuff wouldn't bother some people. All in all, the first season may have been better overall but I still enjoyed a lot of what this season had to offer all throughout 🤔.

The original writer that got fired still wrote this season, but they still aired it because it was already written and they already did all the voice acting before he got canned. Season 3 should have fresh new writers as a positive. (If you look at the credits for most of this season "Beau Demayo" is still credited as the main writer of specific episodes as they're using his script)

for 2 Episodes. the whole season was about Nathan and how its his destiny to get kill apocalypse. we got 2-3 Episode about it and other than that it was sprinkled in with going to the savage lands for one episode, having Horseman of Death gambit marry Rogue (and Horseman of Death something all comic book readers knew was coming be funneled into a singular episode) and the episode about wolverine getting his adamantium back. none of which were bad episoded but bro you seriously wanna tell me we couldn't get more Horseman of death, more Nightcrawler (before he DIED), and more cable and his Gang like come on.

According to the writers, they changed what the end of season 2 was meant to be. Onslaught was meant to show up by now, but higher ups wanted more seasons so this is literally what you describe it as, filler. Season 3 is already done though and slated to come out next year so hopefully its less filler

It’s a step back from season 1 but still was a great time. Some fun episodes in 5 and 7 despite the bitching and moaning that they didn’t advance the plot. I agree with many that the time taken away from the Apocalypse main plot made the following episodes feel rushed towards the climax in a lot of ways, but I’m conflicted because I enjoyed 5 and 7 enough that I feel they justify their existence. Honestly they should’ve given the season 1 or 2 extra episodes for main plot stuff and it would’ve solved that issue. People wanting to pretend only season 2 has filler should go back and watch Mojotendo/Life-Death Part 1. Not knocking on that episode’s quality but it definitely felt like filler as well. We just had enough episodes to still flesh out the main plot. S2 was definitely still a 8/10 season to me, and if it was lower for yall then damn that sucks I hope you end up enjoying the next one more. :)

Yeah this season definitely needed an extra episode. And this season felt weirdly paced. S1 had some pacing issues but it's worse here. Too fast. As much as I like some of the standalone episodes, those should've been used to refine the season story.
