I'm gonna take security and the partner EMT side regarding the keys in the truck. She says it's protocol but multiple people keep saying no it's not. Even if it used to be protocol it seems that many of them don't do it anymore because the trucks get stolen. Which is exactly what happened and why everyone was like "again" when this truck was stolen. It's good that you want to be prepared just in case the truck needs to be moved but if they keep getting stolen its not worth leaving the keys in the ignition 😅

Honestly, I genuinely don't even think the bullshitting has any impact on waiting room care, because they said many times that it's a bed / rooming issue. They do have people assigned to Chairs (waiting room triage) -- the ones that are named at least are McKay, Javadi, and Mateo -- there's just literally no space and staff available to treat them until they clear other patients out. I also think most of the staff doing the loitering around are nurses, EMTs, and security, too, which the Pitt doesn't seem to be in short supply of. (On a side note, it's like the one bit of humor in an otherwise nonstop stress show lmao)

If you're prone to triggers then yea dont watch. I got triggered and had a panic attack but i was able to keep pushing and enjoy the show. If thats not you, definitely dont watch. I will say the show isnt all depressing but it is a LOT! Take care of yourself 🩵

I don't think Dr. Mohan was being standoffish when she said "You do" after Santos said she had a lot to learn. I think she's just honest and a bit blunt, which I kind of appreciate - no need to beat around the bush or guess what she's trying to convey. And I'm a certified Santos Apologist, but she does need to slow her roll.

Re: the betting; I work in a different but also very morbid and depressing field, and to survive, you end up finding the humor/levity wherever you can. It's fucked up, and I'm not condoning the behavior, but it does become a survival mechanism.

I love episodes like this because it shows even when there isn't a giant stressful acute someone-is-dying-rn emergency, there is no downtime. The "action" of the show is like a wave, but the level is always rising.

I'm sure it depends on the program/hospital, but yeah. I've known a lot of surgical and ed residents at two programs and in both cases they have no scheduled breaks at all. My gf is a surgical resident and it's very common for her to not eat any food until she gets back home. No idea about attendings, and I know some nurses have required breaks, but it depends on their unions.

Regarding the dying father and the son that's getting the cerebral perfusion test, all those actors were acting their asses off but I was glad both of those arcs finished when they did. It felt like torture emotionally but that means they did their jobs properly. In my opinion, it gets better because the scenarios they present later move a lot faster so you don't have to wallow in them for too long.

So those 4 other people in the dark blue scrubs, I think you are mentioning, I am assuming, are PCAs (patient care assistants), and yes, while they could care for patients on a basic level (draw labs, assist with bathroom, feed, etc), they cannot treat the patients or discharge them.

Update 2: One hour before leaving to go home, I had a very bad attack. I thought it was over because I was getting ready to leave. I wasn't attached to any monitors, and none of the nurses bothered to check on me. I had an attack while talking to my mother, traumatizing the heck out of her. I was gasping for air like a fish, sweating heavily, and speaking erratically. I summoned my strength and screamed for help. Luckily, some nurses responded and worked on me. My poor mom heard the whole thing. I could hear her calling for me but couldn't answer. She sounded so scared.

Update 3: They put me on oxygen for a few hours, and I got the okay to go home around 1:00 AM. I slept in my bed, or I tried to, but honestly, I couldn't sleep. I kept replaying the past few hours' events repeatedly in my mind. I was honestly afraid that if I went to sleep, I wouldn't wake up. Mentally, I'm not okay, but hearing my family's voice as they get my nephew ready for his second day of school is really sobering. When I was in that hospital bed, gasping for air like a dying fish, I really thought it was over, and that's really messing with my mind. This comment section is really helpful to me with expressing my thoughts, putting them down, getting them out. Trying to move on and figure out what my next steps are.

With the Transgender patient getting name changes granted can be a hassle. The Process often requires getting affidavits from a doctor. Presenting those to a court, waiting for a court hearing, wait for that to process, then take the court order to the State, then the DMV, then the SSA, then going to every place you work, study, bank, hospital...and then someone on staff forgets to change the info anyway.
