While I do think she was just inviting him back because she liked Roman and wanted a friend/friendly face to record her, its something to note that the Maelstrom gang DOES quite often kidnap people for the express purpose of modifying them. The modifications/upgrades can be and usually ARE against the persons will. If I remember correctly, Maelstrom gangs will do this to people for the sheer amusement/cruelty of it, but also for the torture. Sometimes they're indoctrinating you into the gang, sometimes they just wanna hurt you. OH, and they DO pay people to lure unsuspecting individuals into ambushes for the express purpose of kidnapping them, ripping them apart and taking whatever upgrades they have for themselves. Meaning if Roman had gone, they might have torn him apart for what little tech he had and used it on themselves and/or Talia.

17:20 Yes Lupa. The Arasaka chip in this show is the same. But how it works in this show is different than how it worked in the game. It’s another experimental chip. You’ll see what I mean later in the season.
