Roshi asking "Where did they get the technology to do this" is like asking where did we get the technology to build steam engines lmao.

john

so can someone explain whats a tip drill

ViralCorgi

Their technological advancement goes hand in hand with them being a colonialist superpower. Investing heavily into their military growth, invading all of these other areas, stealing their natural resources, enforcing slave labor, and coercing anyone with intellect to create inventions for the sake of expanding their regime all helped in them accelerating their development tenfold.

JotaroDrake

Sokka learned coochie bending

JotaroDrake

Jet a bastard 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Dyastro

MANNNNN if only they had to defeat the drill AFTER toph's.......level up! This shit would have been easy as pie!

Not to mention with firebending they can weld and burn coal, which the other elements can't

Christopher Solero

Low key was just thinking where are the avatar reactions when searching on my Patreon page haha

Hoodlum JoeBro

I needed this. Just finished reading the latest chapter of a manga and well...I need a something to pick me up lol Thanks guys, hitting us with one of the fan favourite episode as well, y’all are the best.

Joshua Burns

Hey idk if y’all noticed but that pregnant lady and her husband were in a previous episode with Zuko, if I’m not mistaken it’s the Zuko Alone episode where he was about rob them till he saw she was pregnant

Belt Cedd

Bruh I know this niggas did not name this episode Tip Drill. Classic song for a classic episode. 👌

Tyler

I was going to be pissed if I didn't see one tip drill joke. I am pleased lmao

Tyler

Also to answer your recurring questions about the fire nations tech you gotta think about the strengths of each nation and how it would affect their individual advancement. Since fire benders have a natural and free access to fire without relying solely on coal they became FAR more skilled at processing raw materials into iron, steel, etc. than any other nation which drove them to engineer a lot of this technology. Earth benders can easily move and shape rocks basically for free so that's why we see such large cities and stone building in the Earth nation that accommodate the huge population. Water benders live at the poles and can manipulate ice as you've seen so that's self explanatory. And since air nomads can't manipulate earth they had very few temples that all had precious and intricate art like the murals we've seen. So since they were nomads they either lived in those temples or traveled the world. If you've noticed over the course of the series Aang has always said things like "Oh yeah, I've been to that place and this place." That's partly because he was around before the war but also because he is a nomad. Sorry for the long post but it's pretty cool how the power system is not only really well thought out but also makes the world more believable.

Gabby Boakye-yiadom

That 1v1 with Aang and Azula is one of my favorite fights since Aang basically takes all of his established bending to have an even fight with her. Almost a shame it was cut short.

Shamar

I’m pretty sure the drill was the project that the fire nation wanted no one to find out about.

1yoyoyo2

For the record, it’s “the Gaang.”

Additionally, War Minister Qin (the commander inside the drill w Azula), was the same officer from the Northern Air Temple episode. He took all this tech (the air ballon, the tanks, the drill) from The Mechanist. You can even see blueprints for the drill in the Northern Temple ep! This show is crazy detailed.

kurumi Tokisaki

The animation and soundtrack for the spike scene with aang was epic af for some reason

Mten10th

In Jet's defense, him turning over a new leaf has to do with him trying to help the refugees. He never once said he forgives the Fire Nation for the pain they've caused him.

Eugene Conner

so much foreshadowing in this episode.

Yess, thank you for explaining this. One of my favorite aspects of ATLA is how much the power system ties into the world building. Not just "oh yeah these are the four nations with different bending styles" but how each bending style shapes their community, structure, technological advancement, etc. Like you said, it makes the world feel real and immersive.

Eugene Conner

Jet didn't really do anything scummy though. He's just suspicious of them. Rightfully so.

L

Ok so a few things while I am watching this video. The fire nation did NOT get their knowledge from the library. If you pay attention the earth kingdom has much much better architecture because of their ability to control earth and easily build things. Now the thing with the fire nation is because they have access to fire they have much better use for making equipment and molding stuff like steel. They also make much better use of coal which is used for majority of their creations. I think the episode a while back also showed that the very intelligent guy at the southern or northern (I forgot lol) air temple gave the fire nation access to many of his creations (I may not be exactly right cause it has been a while since I saw it). Also I think this was already stated but Iroh did not actually lose to them but instead lost all of his drive to go through with it after he found out about the death of his son. You will soon get to an episode solidify this fact if I remember right. But I do think it was stated in a recent episode with the flash back of Zuko and Azula in their childhood.

L

Damn that drill blew its load all inside them walls :)

Travis

lol you guys forgot, that guy and girl who had the baby was the same people zuko was going to rob for food when he was riding solo but he didn't wanna rob a pregnant woman. thats what i love about this show, it feels like everyone ends up meeting eachother in the most random scenarios.

godUsoland

Honestly, I have seen this theory floated around years ago, but what if the Avatar was a source for Stagnation that was holding back the world? The Avatar's job was to enforce balance, and what is more balanced that stopping any one nation from getting too powerful. The Avatar has been around for over 10,000 years, and before he disappeared people still used bow and arrows. Then he vanishes, and the Fire Nation could finally implement new technology without being held back, and in 100 years developed guns, tanks, and GIANT FUCK OFF DRILLS THAT PIERCE THE HEAVENS. Meanwhile, the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes are using bending, boomerangs and manual push subways.

Chris D. Jones

Disregarding his first appearance how is Jet a piece of shit now? He’s totally right

Cablemonkey

After watching the after discussion, really hoping you guys continue on with korra.

Jet represents the extremist side of the "good guys" He shows that even when your fighting for freedom if you take it too far you end up just as "bad" as his enemies.

The Divided One
>>36212360

I wasn't trying to disagree with you lol, just throwing out my perception of Jet's character. Why is everything an argument with Patrons, lol I'll just stop commenting.

DY
>>36212360

Disregarding Jet's first appearance, this is how I read Jet solely based off of the past 2 episodes... - He picks out Zuko of all people, why? That scar. He knows Zuko was scarred by a firebender and believes that they share common pain/suffering at the hands of the Fire Nation. He's looking for like-minded people to rebuild his crew. It's the exact same tactic he used to find and recruit other freedom fighters. It's a little predatory, but fine. - They steal some food from the captain's quarters to feed the refugees...and very smoothly. lol Clearly, Zuko knows how to handle himself. Zuko is aloof, but based on his actions, is viewed by Jet as having a good heart. Uncle dispenses some wisdom about believing in second chances and people's ability to change their lives if they want to. Jet agrees. So far so good... - They disembark and he catches Uncle drinking hot tea after complaining about cold tea. Ok, they are Firebenders. He immediately begins stalking them. This is where the problem is. Until that point, Jet has nothing but positive interactions with Zuko and Uncle. He just got done telling them the night before that he wanted a fresh start and believes in second chances, but here he is judging two people SOLELY on their ability to firebend. Basically, Jet is xenophobic/prejudiced against firebenders because he was traumatized as a child. And in the show, the Fire Nation is basically Imperial Japan. Jet is right about them being firebenders. Maybe his motivation is to keep other people safe. But his assumption that they are up to no good? It's a leap fueled by his hatred and distrust of the Fire Nation. I can see why Jet could be viewed as being a piece of shit. His trauma radicalized him into thinking that all firebenders are up to no good or are evil. He's not *totally* wrong of course. But at least at this point in the story, he is wrong in assuming these two refugees are doing anything other than trying to make a fresh start.

R3APER

Naw. It was named The Drill. Roshi just making a joke

R3APER
>>36212360

Honestly at this point a new viewer is supposed to still dislike Jet because he only had that ONE appearance before now. You're SUPPOSED to doubt if he's really good now.

Chris D. Jones
>>36212360

Totally agree at this point you should doubt him he’s done nothing to gain anyone trust. To me a piece of shit is azula level and Jet not there by a long shot he’s more on an asshole level

Kurumi
>>36227167

lmao im saying shit got so wild Nickelodeon had to stop airing it on tv

Saber
>>36227167

Fr I might be bias cuz I love anything avatar but imo korra pretty heat

Killjoy
>>36227167

why not, just cause korra isn't as great as ATLA, it doesn't mean it's bad. IF ATLA is a 10/10 korra is an 8/10 especially with their villains

Josephine Rodriguez
>>36227167

I'll give you that, its the fact that its part of the avatar universe that makes it hated so much. If it was something of itself, it wouldn't be bad. I personally hated it with the passion of a thousand burning suns XD

KiliSloe
>>36212360

The world is at war with the fire nation. If fire nation people try to get into the city of ba sing se, they are up to no good. I mean he basically saw him firebend. It's not prejudice since he had first-hand experience.

Nique

They're also the couple Zuko saw in the episode Zuko Alone.

LK

Sokka isn't loud. He speaks as loud as everyone else dont diss my boy

RM

Fun fact: In the episode 'The Northern Air Temple' in Book 1, if you look really closely, you can see that the mechanic (Teo's dad) had blueprints of the drill on his desk. Took me a few rewatches to notice the small but subtle detail. The many things of why this is my favorite show of all time.

Daniel Tenorio

Not gonna lie... This just ruined my childhood.

Reujen Lista

Bruh, Sokka really said “The Furious Foursome”

Lamaree Jackson

Love the consistent writing showing how close everyone’s journeys were. If Azula hadn’t shown up with the drill, the rest of the gang would’ve been with baby hope. Seeing iroh and Zuko, and potentially Jet’s crew too
