The way they gave this backstory is really cool and we think it actually blends well with existing story elements. Book 2 started off a bit slow and Korra has been a bit insufferable but it has started to pick up really well!

Super Moko-Moko

I heard this backstory was intended to be in the original atla but they had no way of incorporating it! This I where korra really started picking up for me!

jmv213

These episodes are amazing and complement the existing lore really well. Great story telling that is showing and not just telling or exposition dumps.

Lalisa Truong

And people say that this retcons ATLA when this was originally supposed to be in ATLA. They just didn't put it in ATLA because it didn't fit into the narrative at the time.

Oui Oui

There's more than 4 Lion Turtles. That's why there was a Lion Turtle that could give Aang energy bending

Shamar

I noticed that Wan and Aang kinda have the same personality

josue

Something I liked about Wan's story is that he was given a year to prepare for harmonic convergence and master the elements. Brings it back to when Roku told Aang he had to do it by next summer, "I know you can do it Aang, for you have done it before."

A1 kairo

Honestly fuck season 2 I can’t wait til y’all get to season 3 which is the best out of the 4 to me

Otter Mane

the collective OHHHHHHH at the beginning can break the sound barrier

Alec Johnson

Lupa w/ the creepy door intro tho 🤣🤣🤣

Mmbop

I like to think that when Wan touched the harmonic convergence, he energy bended his spirit with Raava's. Kinda like when Aang turned blue when he took Ozai's bending away.

godUsoland

Book 2 is decent, but widely disliked. It has amazing moments, some good character interactions, and Wan's Great Adventure, but it is full of issues. Can't wait for Book 3!

godUsoland

Vaatu: I AM AKU! FOR TEN THOUSAND YEARS~~~

Lyric Laude

Rumor has it korra passed by a lion turtle at the end of the episode.

devin billups

anyone notice at the end of the episode, there was a dome-shaped island that Korra flew past?

Anonymous

Is there a way to enhance the quality on the new system they're using?

Corey Pearson

Great reactions but it did seem like there was too much over talking and too much attempt to predict what's going on during episodes that were literally explaining everything y'all had questions about. It's great that y'all didn't manage to miss much but maybe find a better balance of things by just allowing the episode to answer stuff, saving most of the predictions and questions towards the end of the reaction.

Ian Lurke

I agree lol. I think they are trying to force the predictions more. Almost like it is kinda like a competition lol. But still great reactions of course.

kurumi Tokisaki

It should be called a city turtle...temple turtle...old ass give you elements and not eat you big ass turtle..., but i guess lion turtle is okay too.

MrNoor114

is it me or at the end where Korra was flying away was that island a lion turtle?

Narutofreak94

It was always inferred that it was as well that it could have also been the one that helped Aang in the original. I thought it was cute that they had little hints about them in the series (like in the library episode one was pictured in the book Aang was reading).

RM

Fun fact: Supposedly the battle field that Avatar Wan dies on is the same field that Zuko walks through in Zuko Alone in ATLA (3x7). The most distinguishable part they have in common are the big Earth Kingdom coins

Justin Neason

This episode gives me chills. They brought back a version of the Aang's avatar theme, and it hit me that Aang was using Wan's Rava sealing technique around himself when fighting Ozai. I knew that the Avatar state gives you access to both the power and skills of past avatars, but the fact that he reached that far back in that fight is so sick!

Liam D

def similar no way its the same. its 10k years old by the time of zuko alone

J Sampson

Also note that Wan acquired the elements from the lion turtles in the order of the avatar cycle.

Ghoullie

I think that there is a lot of really cool stuff in this two part-er and some stuff that bothers me, but I have one strong frustration: they are trying to be apply a western narrative style (good vs. evil) with an eastern philosophy (yin and yang, balance of light and dark). Rava says that she can not destroy Vatu because both must exist, and they are visually represented like yin and yang a couple times -- however, there is no negative consequence to the unquestioned existence of Rava, while there is a lot of negative consequence to the existence of Vatu. If they "can not exist without the other", then why does rava defeating vatu mean peace and prosperty, but his defeat of her mean chaos and destruction? It's probably not that big of a deal to most people, but I do find it frustrating that the world building is telling me one thing while the actually sequence of events says something different.

Mo

These two episodes are the best part of season 2 in my opinion.

Tyler

Well it's not like the world is a utopia and everyone is happy. It is implied that the world is currently the way it is and not destroyed because Rava won the last Harmonic Convergence battle. With that humans and spirits are at odds and humans live in large disparity in Lion turtles separated by class and wealth. I think the world as it is with its flaws depicts exactly what you say isn't depicted at least the way I'm understanding how things are at work here.

Gevin Tipsword

i always get choked up at the death scene. You can hear the care in Rava's voice when she tell's him that they will be together forever.

Craig Stanley

The only criticism I have of the story is that it conflict with the Omashu story from the love cave in ATLA. In that story Oma and Shu were the first earthbenders. But this story clearly predates that so they couldn't have been the first earthbenders.

Cablemonkey

This fight so brings me back to Samurai Jack “Birth of Evil pt2”. Both are phenomenal backstories with an epic final-ish battle, then there’s the aku/vaatu visual similarities and both heroes zipping around on clouds fighting.... Of course hearing Makos voice in both shows (as Aku and Iroh) ties them together even more.

MacarooniR0b

I don't think it actually conflicts, because a lot of history can be lost to time. No one in the Avatar world knew that humans used to live on Lion Turtles. Also, it's implied in this prequel arc that there are several Lion Turtle cities per element, so maybe Oma and Shu were descended from an Earth Lion Turtle city that didn't know any others existed.

Unique

I like how the creators used a different studio for episodes 7 & 8.

John

Another episode of shera stating things 1 minute before its revealed

Faiz Khan

The artwork for these episodes are fucking gorgeous and l'm glad they spent the budget well on the show like here you know how hard it is to get that texture or feel on digital fucking bless up animators

Chris Hawking

now to be fair on korra's side of things yes she was being gullible I will admit that much but at the same time she didn't really know about the whole Spirit portal thing but this episode in a way gives a great lesson not just for the lore of the story but for the fact that this could be applied two real life in a way like that old philosophy lesson is said to people every now & then to quote now . - if you do not learn & truly know & understand your history then those in life are doomed to repeat it this could go on for the human race in general or certain specific Clans & different types of cultures as well as different families it's a real head-scratcher something to really think about food for thought 🤔👍

DADEFUYE

when Vatu said it was he who broke through the divide that separated the human from the spirit world. that means he was the one who created the spirit portals. look at the color of his beam, reminds you of somethings doesn't it 😉

Wan Masters all 4 elements in a year. Roku on the Winter solstice telling Aang he has a year to master the elements. "I know you can do it. You have done it before."

Melissa Corella Robles

There was this guy on YouTube who made an hour and a half long video about how he hated the whole TLOK concept and I actually sat through it to see what he had to say and I felt like he went to far into it lol I genuinely enjoyed the story. But, to each is their own.

Phonic Reassignment

I think kyoshi was the most successful in peace ppl where too scared to do anything. Until roku messed it up with his best friend

Andy tee

Bruh they didn't notice the lion turtle right at the end when korra flew by. Did that lion turtle find her in the ocean and take her to the island?

Gangsta Penguin

idk if it was mentioned (it probably was), but the field Wan died in is the same field Zuko walked through in the opening of Zuko Alone

Nicholas Staker

Definitely more then four, the show says that itself, but I always felt the all of the lion turtles had the ability to energybend and that is how they were able to give the humans the ability. Like all lion turtles can energybend, but after that they're all born with a different element that they can bestow.

Nicholas Staker

No avatar had that ability before Aang, otherwise he would of known he could do that by being in contact with his past selves. Plus he quite literally says that the lion turtle taught him how to do that in the fourth part of Sozin's Comet.

At the end of s2e7 when Lupasan said he needed more, I decided I did too and had to sub here on patreon😋 keep up the great work guys!

Ohais

Okay, so I know this is a year later, but I only jusy found this out. So, the markings on the forehead of the fire lion turtle are identical to those on the head of the lion turtle who gave Aang the ability to energybend. So it's possible that either it was just another fire lion turtle that Aang encountered, or it could have been the same one

Shawn Oxley

The Wan episodes are the peak of tlok imo a well fleshed out backstory in only 2 episodes with such a cool artstyle must've been an insane challenge

Koria Hayes

I like how Roku was worried about his mistake being passed down to Aang and here we learn that there was a bigger mistake that the avatars have been dealing with for millennia xD makes Roku's mistake, in the grand scheme of things, seem so small......yet it was so big at the time.
