they explained it in season 1 that the witch of envy killed the other witches and stole their power in jealousy. It's always been the jealous witch is the one everyone fears and hates because she fucked the balance in the world. Was explained like 2-3xs in season 1 in exposition dumps

Not sure if it’s a bit late now or not since we’re already into S2, but I would suggest watching the OVA and the movie, not sure their relevance to the plot exactly (and don’t want to know, will be looking into LN or WN when this season is up), but they were both very interesting and might give some food for thought to some characters’ actions this season.

The first few episodes of this season bored me the first time i watched them, however i promise shit is about to pick up hardcore.

There are seven witches and archbishops, each archbishops have different authorities or powers. Gluttony has the power the erase the name and memories of a person, Greed has the power to stop time anything it touches, meanwhile Subaru has the authority of Envy granted to him by Satella(The witch of Envy) which has the power to Return by Death. Echidna(the witch of greed) was living outside reality or so to say living in an ethereal world, one where Subaru gained access to via the Sanctuary's trial. YES, there are multiple witches all corresponding to the seven deadly sins. Satella(the witch of envy) is somehow the strongest of them all since she devoured/defeated the other witches so to speak.

They did mention in S1 IIRC, specifically that "nowadays when most people say the word Witch, they refer to the Jealous Witch, AKA Satella", which has the implication that beings that are old af and still alive, know that it's not true, hence why they specifically specify this, because for those in the know, they know that each Sin has their own Witch, obviously.

To go off of what Sheera said about Emilia being a witch, She might be the "Witch of Pride" considering she says that she's similar to Subaru and they address him as "Pride" sometimes. (Also ive never watched this and is watching it with you guys)

Lupa's reactions in this were great, especially the ones after 25:10 LOL.... "Son.... Chew Five Gum" and his reactions to seeing Echidna. Roshi's were too, Sheera seemed absorbed in the story. I can't wait for the next episodes; I feel like young deku rocking back and forth while waiting for these reactions.

Well in terms of episodes the first half just ended today with 13 eps. It's a split cour meaning, we would get the remaining 12 episodes at a later date. As of right now, the second half will begin in January 2021.
