One thing that needs clearing up is why Roswaal beat the shit out of Subaru. Roswaal knows that Subaru can restart, but he doesn’t know he has to die to do it. Roswaal was fucking him up to try to make him restart. He was basically saying, “You can either restart the world or I’m just gonna keep beating the shit outta you. What’s it gonna be?”

Close but not exactly it. He was beating Subaru up because he had a misconception about Return by Death. He thought that Subaru could just willingly start over if he drove to him the point of madness essentially. Roswaal doesn't know that Subaru actually has to DIE in order for it to be activated, hence the whole "I'm not going to kill you, it be pointless" statement.

She has been taking the trial non-stop, Subaru was her support since she didn't have Puck. Everyone was distancing themselves from Emilia. Being all alone and taking a traumatizing trial over and over drove her insane. Something that is lost in terms of context between the anime and the light novel is that Roswald doesn't know how Subaru's power works. He assume Subaru can do it at command so he began to beat the hell out of him to incentivize Subaru to restart. So he is unaware that the power is triggered by Subaru's death.

I'm not a light novel reader or anything but the way I interpret the whole Roswaal knowing abou Subaru thing is that he doesn't really "know" that Subaru can return by death, he's just figured out that he can restart and he was beating him up to try to force him into restarting. That's also why he always hangs on Subarus words that back up his theory. But that's just my interpretation.

Bruhh I just thought of something and it’s making my head hurt lol....In this episode, roswaal say he was other methods other than killing Subaru. And keep in mind that he has a gospel. Now when roswaal says he has other methods, what if he has been orchestrating everything that’s been going on...Hell maybe even from season 1 because although we see roswaal with the gospel this season, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t always had it. We just haven’t seen him with it until now. Also in one of the ep in season 1, Elsa says that she doesn’t give away information about her contractors....is it roswaal?....Even the season 1 ep when Subaru and rem saved the blue haired girl who, in this episode, turned out to be a whole Mabeast user soooo did her and roswaal set this up? I always thought roswaal was hella sus. If he is orchestrating everything, why? But who knows I might be wrong lol

Betty dying was not Subaru's fault. Neither of them knew that Elsa was still alive. It literally didn't matter. And I always hate when people bash on Subaru for being uncomfortable with the thought of killing a child. It doesn't matter what people think is logical he's just not heartless.

Well if you watched episode 13 you would know what Roswaal is doing..... Also he doesn't have a Gospel. It has been stated multiple times he has 1 of only 2 books and the so called "Gospels" are just shitty and defective versions of what him and Betty has.

They actually left out some stuff I kind of wish they would have included in between roswaal dying and Subaru reaching Emilia in the tomb. While trying to reach Emilia and not get eaten by the rabbits, Subaru uses his power as an apostle of greed to order the ryuzu clones to defend him against the rabbits similarly to how they fought the Witch of Envy in the previous episode. While on his way to the tomb he notices that the cathedral building where all the Arlam villagers and Otto were staying was fully on fire, so he concludes that the villagers must has set themselves on fire over being eaten alive. The episode was already really dark so maybe they didn't want to make it even darker by adding in a group suicide but I think its somewhat important to push Subaru further (IMO). With all that plus Emilia going crazy from retaking the trial over and over again, I've been told that Subaru considers this attempt to be the most horrible out of all of them.

I remember I read the novel as well Andean confused when they didn’t include the scene with the cathedral. It would’ve been even more fucked so I guess they did a good choice with not including it in.

Holy shit. Oh, this is so off the mark, I'm gonna feel like an idiot, but... Roswaal's eyes and the shape of his face look exactly like Subaru's. And if he was trying to hide what he really looked like, there would be worse ways of doing it than making himself look freakish. You could even make the argument that his unusual speech patterns could be an attempt to mask his voice. It's gonna be some shit if he turns out to somehow be a future Subaru or some other horseshit like that.

I really like Lupa's energy and sense of humor, it is half the reason why i subscribed to this patreon, but watching him react to this show just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I don't know if it's in your personality to keep saying you hate this show with such a long face but in reality you really enjoy it and appreciate it and its storytelling, but if you really hate this show then why do you keep watching it? I’m not sure if someone explained the whole satella and Emilia situation these last couple episodes, But you can tell the difference between the two because the flower bonnet are on the opposite sides of each other and there face kinda looks different very very slightly but yeah. Also , Roswaal said why she was like that being all weird and shit. she was emotionally unstable due to the snow, being isolated in that trial room and Subaru & Puck being gone. Also, Betty being stabbed by Elsa wasn’t completely his fault. Yeah he tried stopping Betty from killing maylie BUT they both thought Elsa was dead and Her guard was let down.

Gotta love how twenty people have to post the same Roswaal theory/explanation. I think they got it after the first three guys. 🙄 Re:Zero continues to be one of my favorite shows. It’s direction (something really overlooked in this light novel adaptation), sense of mystery and urgency, handling of tough emotional material, fantastic score, and top tier animation and voice acting are just... this shit is good. That being said, I’ve long since grown less butt-hurt about their unrealistic, less empathetic expectations on Subaru. Dude is genuinely doing his best with mostly selfless intentions - a far cry from his low point in S1 - and we still clowning him for every little mistake or slip up he makes in these crazy situations, but I’ve made my peace with that. Lol. Not everyone’s experience is gonna be the same watching this show. I’m just glad they are enjoying it and understanding some things. Anyone else here nervous / interested in how the Normies are gonna take this show? 😂
