Todoh is a great military commander but Zero is still the one with all the plans/strategies planned out and he usually doesn't tell anyone more than they need to know. Not to mention if your top boss suddenly dips out on such an important battle, it will greatly affect morale. And as Diethard said, Zero has a certain charisma that no one else in the Black Knights possesses. After all the "miracles" he's pulled off, everyone pretty much puts all their hopes and expectations on him.

So to explain, some of the concerns in the reaction: Todoh is an ON THE FIELD commander, he has tactics for small scale fights but he can't take charge of the larger military perspective of the battle. Secondly, like Diethard said, Todoh doesn't have enthusiasm to raise morale and everyone already knew Zero is missing. So Morale is HELLA LOW. No Morale and no strategic commander means epic fail. As for Sheera's question why Suzaku's Live Geass didnt cause him to fear the explosion, it only triggers when he definitively know he gonna die if he does this. However, the bomb thing is ONLY if Lelouch dies, so in Suzaku's mind, he has other options than to stop lelouch via killing him. Hence the geass for LIVE didnt trigger.

Without spoiling you guys, I can't fully explain why Suzaku's geass command didnt force him to not be afraid of shooting lelouch. Just now it can be explained with some thinking once u seen a bit of S2.

I would second this recommendation. It would have made a lot of sense for the creators to skip the opening in those first few episodes to avoid spoilers, but I don't think that was commonly done until recently.

And when he's accepted his fate since death is what he wants, which is why the geass activates. Such as when Suzaku was speaking to Euphy and basically telling her goodbye, he was ready to die right then and there. Euphy's command helped but he was definitely going to allow himself to get killed.

Quick note... that movie isn't a sequel to this series. It's a sequel to the reboot movie trilogy, which explicitly takes place in a different timeline and actually has a lot of major differences from this one. Literally none of that movie would've been possible with this series's canon.
