marcel did save Reiner ymir was about to eat him but marcel pushed Reiner out of the way. its heavier becuase of the fact that he set him up to be a titan in the first place to save his own brother.

They glossed over Marcel's character in the anime, he's a leader and everyone looks up to him like a "big brother", Reiner took on his traits and imitated him when he joined the survey corps and it's part of why he's having a breakdown, he was also copying an identity along with being a double agent so just about EVERYTHING about him is in question. It's why Porco was agitated last episode, because he saw Reiner copying Marcel in Ymir's memory. The real Reiner is more like Falco or pre-titan Eren, someone who is not "special" or excel anywhere despite having strong convictions.

im curious... we keep saying brainwashing but by this episode did we ever really get shown that the eldians were on the right side of history? grisha said ymir built roads instead of attacking marley and terrorizing them with titans... then seconds later was like "eh i cant read this i just trust that this is the truth"? im team eldians but I feel like brainwashing is the wrong word till we (hopefully eventually) learn the truth. this aint me trying to hint at shit lol someone pls answer the question if i missed anything

Took forever to figure out it was Eren lmao. I don't even know majority of what is left in this series and I could tell it was Eren as soon as they showed him last episode. Super easy to tell if you remember his hair was longer from the trailer.

As soon as I heard dude talk I was like oh shit is that eren?! I wonder how many of them are undercover in there. That's crazy though. I need to start paying more attention to background characters. Also yeah reiner's whole life is tragic. He been fucked up since childhood. Really they all have. Both sides of eldians don't know the full truth and are just doing what the people at the top tell them. None of them are inherently bad or evil. Just blind and misguided.

10/10 episode for me...I love that we have been getting to see Marleys perspective. Reiner is such a well written character bruh. In terms of well-written characters, he’s definitely my 2nd favorite character...and also I love the parallel between Reiner and Eren. Especially when porco said that Marcel had brains and Annie had fighting ability while Reiner had no special qualities other than his devotion whereas on Paradis Island, Armin has brains, Mikasa has fighting ability, and Eren had nothing but his burning desire to kill all titans.

That's exactly what the author is trying to show between Reiner and Eren. The line that Reiner said in S2 and reshown in this episode about Eren being the "the worst possible person" to have to coordinate is because noticed Eren's motivations are just as strong as his but on opposite sides, him wanting to kill all titans and Reiner to kill all the "devils" of Paradis. Reiner took a liking to Eren because he reminded him of himself.
