This is definitely interesting. Curious to see where this goes from here

Beef Gristle Mill

Does anybody who actually knows wtf they're talking about know what's the correct watch order for the series cause I've looked at a bunch of different sites and a lot of them say different things, except that bakemonogatari is the beginning.

Evan Jardin
>>66723005

Bake, Kizu, nise, neko, mono second season, Hana, tsuki, owari (first season), koyo, owari (2nd season), zoku owari is the intended viewing order. The only confusing thing is Kizu, which was the second book but the movies came out way later

Bart the Beard

There is novel release order, TV animation order and chronological order and I'd say go for novel or TV.

Evan Jardin
>>66723005

This is also the airing order, you can also watch in chronological order but that's better for a rewatch

Beef Gristle Mill

After I posted that comment I found this saying this was the authors recommended watch order: Bakemonogatari  Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu  Kizumonogatari Part 2: Nekketsu  Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu  Nisemonogatari  Nekomonogatari Black Nekomonogatari (White) Kabukimonogatari Hanamonogatari  Otorimonogatari Onimonogatari Koimonogatar Tsukimonogatari Koyomimonogatari Owarimonogatari  Owarimonogatari 2nd Season

Daniel
>>66723005

Same order as mine. I think watching Kizu first is a lot better.

Beef Gristle Mill

Yeah I checked for air date lists but some had kizu after bake and others had another so that's why I was confused

Evan Jardin
>>66723425

Yeah some lists will go with tv order rather than the novel release order

Daniel
>>66723425

Yes. I would recommend following the novel release order though.

Beef Gristle Mill
>>66723425

Ok I looked up a novel release list like you said and the most up to date one is the list I have so I think I'm set👌

Aries F

He has two sister, yall not ready for them just sayin🤣

Harmonial

Anyone know if the reaction for Lupa Jojo pt3 is coming? Srry if this is an often asked question

Alexander

I thought there were going to have a more difficult time with this show, but it seems they are fast on getting must of it, is going to be good, also onces you get into suruga fight the show gets pretty easy to follow.

envy

100 kg is a bit over 200 lb I think 🤔

Kian Kay

Really happy that your reacting to this series! This is one of the few anime that I've watched from beginning to end multiple times. Excited to watch it again with you guys!

Artem Kondratev

After many years I still love it how Bake puts details in just a few frames. When Araragi enters Senjogahara's house - just a glimpse (we see his perspective) is enough to tell she is living in poor conditions.

Rosie

I forgot how strange this show is and I mean that in a good way

Alexander
>>66725327

I think they are pretty chill about that stuff, they jike a lot about stuff like that on streams and different shows

Ara Araragi

The first time I tried watching this show, I wasn't feeling it and gave up partway through the first episode. I gave it another shot when I saw it was winning your poll, and I'm so glad I did. It's a trip. I just wish I knew Japanese, because there's a lot of wordplay going on.

Dantene
>>66725327

roshi and sheera out here always searching for yams on stream, they'll be fine haha

Scott Riley Adrueno

Strange, weird, all these words are understatements. This show is wacked. The dialogue flows from one to another much fluid than the animation. I remember constantly rewinding scenes just to properly digest what they were saying. I hope you stick with it. It's worth every time invested in it despite being overhyped by a lot of fans.

Josh Knoebel
>>66725978

Yep. The conversion is 2.24 pounds per kilogram, so skinny little Araragi now weighs 224 pounds.

Peony 三色団子

10:15 Shaft Head Tilt (シャフ度(shafudo) shaft angle)

Tony Lee

Fun fact: I believe the OPs for each arch were sung by the characters from the show. The "Staple Stable" OP was sung by Chiwa Saitō, the voice actor for Senjougahara!

Peony 三色団子

God returned the weight of Senjogahara. Besides, God whimsically gave Araragi the weight of Senjogahara. Maybe God sensed Araragi's feelings. feeling= weight

SupremeCai

So his weight doubled as a payoff I guess? Cuz even if it was her weight + his thats not 100 lol dayum, boy must still have some vamp strength to go from 120 -> 220 like its nothin 😂

Daniel
>>66729141

Yup. All the OP are sung by the characters’ voice actors except Shinobu.

AgustD
>>66725327

It's one thing when there's ecchi for no reason and ruins a scene in an anime but the ecchi aspect in Monogatari is one of its strengths.

Beef Gristle Mill
>>66723335

Are you talking about for roshi and sheera, cause that long convo was trying to get a good list for me so I can watch it

Sebastian Stróż

Head tilts are finally here here!!! Also if you guys notice some similarities art wise to Fire Force thats because FF was done by people who used to work at Shaft that made Monogatari.

かもめのたまご

I always struggle to explain this show in English because there are many word play and kanji stuff for example Shinobu in Japanese is 忍 刃 is blade and 心 is heart, so its heart under blade but great to see u guys reacting!!

auxag
>>66732156

senjougahara 45kg + araragi 55kg would be 100kg. It's simple math

Chimpman

Oh great, the pedo propaganda show.

Reign
>>66727925

the monogatari series isn't over hyped. Its basically a classic at this point. You just need enough brain cells to figure out whats going on.

None None
>>66723005

Hanamonogatari is supposed to be watched between episode 10 and 12 of Second Series. It was originally just supposed to air there, but SHAFT realized there was no way in hell they were going to fit all 6 story arcs within 26 episodes and had to cut one (then it turned out that the 5 stories they animated only took up 23 episodes, so they had to make awkward clip episodes to fill the other 3 episodes of the season). They did eventually release it on its own as Hanamonogatari. It's not THAT important, but Second Series feels a bit incomplete if you don't watch it before the finale.

None None
>>66723005

When Nekmonogatari (white) through Koimonogatari aired on TV, they were called "Monogatari Second Series". I didn't even realize modern releases changed the title so each arc was its own series.

Reign

Pay attention to her answers and the questions they all have relevance in other gatari series. Especially about her first love it becomes part of a huge plot twist later on in one of the other series. Also while the weight thing was a metaphor for emotion she really was ACTUALLY weightless. The show is very tongue and cheek and the metaphor manisted into reality. Wearing clothes and stuff for her was actually painful and a burden.

Reign

the Weight thing was just a joke at the end. even in the novels its not relevant and was alluded to as "gods are kinda dumb and lazy" it was implying the crab returned the weight but was too lazy to figure out who the right one to return It too ( remember oshino said gods view humans as all the same it cant discern weight or gender or anything ) so it gave it to araragi on accident. Its not relevant tho because she did get her weight back and his returns to normal so it was meant to be a joke at the end of this chapter. You could also look at it symbolically of araragis character because the entire series is very much about him taking on the weight and emotional burden of others especially senjous since they will essentially be a couple from now on lol and he's her emotional rock.

None None

Everything in this series is a stupid pun. 重い (weight) and 思い (feelings/emotions) are both pronounced "omoi". Since we use "weight" in English to mean "a heavy burden", most people can piece together the jist of this arc without much problem. A lot of the later ones are completely nonsensical kanji puns that require doing shit like taking kanji out of context to understand. Pretty much EVERY single conversation in the show has some level of subtle wordplay going on. The official English releases of the original novels are fascinating because they actually attempt to adapt a lot of the wordplay in English instead of throwing their hands up and going "fuck it, it's not important" like the anime subbers.

Josh Henriquez
>>66745707

was he really her first love ? thought the crab didn’t make her feel emotions. But yes that one series is very important lol

Ads

When I first watched this series I was not at the age where I could comprehend all the dialogue. Going to enjoy rewatching it with you guys!

Trinares

Hoping they stick with it, at least until the end of the season.

Devin B
>>66725978

Yeah he literally took on Senjougahara's full body weight of 45kg to make it an even 100kg

Alex cleveland

U guys will def need a break after every season lol. I took a long ass break after Monogatari Series S2 and still am. It was freaking amazing but so much shit happens in each season that u just gotta take a break each seasonal watch.

RavinFox .

I've never finished this series and barely started it a LONG time ago. I'm not really sure why I stopped, but I'm happy I get to check it out with you guys! I won't be reading comments because of possible spoilers or even leaving much of them, but I just wanted to say thank you.

Arknightoni
>>66741936

Meh just gotta look past it. It is a amazing show just has weird shit attached to it. If you want to get real technical ALMOST all anime is pedo bait cause they always want to make stories about school students. Especially when they feel it necessary to add fan service to it. That is why I always tell people they need to learn how to look past this shit before jumping into anime because a large number of them involve this sort of thing

BronsonTheBlack

I'm so excited that y'all are watching this one. It's one of my favorites.

BlackAirForcesEnergy
>>66725327

That's why Roshi and Sheera are GOATed. Hands down the best, most entertaining reactors and even better with Lupa. I think the ecchi stuff will be okay. Unlike other anime like Prison School which they really liked. This show doesn't use ecchi too much as comedy and more so like actual fan service. So we'll see... it can go either way.

Alexander
>>66725327

Also like people saying, is not their type of show or they wont understand it, just seeing how they react to the 2 episode that tells me that they are going to have fun. Also once you pass suruga fight, you start to understand this show pretty fast,

Anas Ghadfi

So fun fact on the word play thats going on : In Japanese 思い meaning thought or feeling And 重い meaning weight or heavy Are both pronounced the same " Omoi" Whats more God is pronounced Kami and Crab is pronounced Kani Hence the emotion god and weight crab.

KimKaiRen

I mean you guys are absorbing the show really well even though everything is so confusing when getting into it. This is a difficult series to react to but it's so good.

Arc

50kg is a lot, that's a whole light person. He doubled and is now 220 pounds.

Weltall Gaia

I watched bake, and nise, when they came out and always meant to go back. Can someone tell me if its better to watch all the series, or just read the LN's?

sim
>>66796351

LN are much better but the series has amazing directors so its worth a rewatch as well

Dublis91

Monogatari is like 85% dialogue, but its so mezmerising to watch.

Koji

I hope they don't mind the little fan service they put in each ep, the story is really good. Edit: also love the huge discussion and speculation at the end of each reaction for monogatari :)

Danny

lol the ending is just a funny cliffhanger. oshino mentioned that the gods were very careless so it was just a mistake that arargi got hit with the extra weight. not important since it doesnt show up its just a comedic moment.

PyroPhoenix

I hope you enjoy this anime! I started watching broadcast order until i started suspecting some things that seemed out of place. I later found out the release order is NOT in chronological order. I personally liked it best in chronological order but that is up to you guys! The anime is still really great and a lot of dialogue

PyroPhoenix

try to pay close attention to the subtitles/what they say and just give the short imagery used a quick look. The dialogue is most important to know what happens

Ramen Project .
>>66828469

I watched it in LN order. Kizu was actually suppose to come out 2nd after Bake, but due to airing and censorship issues, it was delayed for a while -- hense, it was suppose to be 2nd in the order, but never came out until later... which is why i follow LN order.

Steven Banaszak

Just have to say, if the fanservice is driving you up the wall in this episode, you're gonna have an aneurysm later on. This is one of my favorite anime, but it can definitely be a bit overwhelming.

Jose silva

i wonder how its gonna go with the Hachikouji episodes lmao

Pocparks

not gonna lie, idk why people recommended this show so heavily to yall knowing how you guys feels about constant unnecessary fanservice,,, the constant unnecessary fanservice in monogatari used to be one of the big selling points of the show and the fact that its so unrelenting is partly to keep the (**japanese understanding**) audience’s eyes busy during the long stretches of dialogue,,,, hope hachikuji doesnt turn you guys off on this series too much tho because the story would be perfect(IMO) without all the weird shit

Sebastian Stróż

How about people stop overreaction like in Mushokus case?

Greg Harrison

Well should be interesting, they reacted to Mushoku and MIA so weird stuff isn't that rare I guess. Looking forward to episode 12 if they get to it.

SurKhan

ooohh She said she weighed 45 kg i think, and comibned with his 55 it made that 100. He said gods were careless so it probs gave it to him instead of back to her. lmaoo

Cancel

Ok so I got this from someone else, and I never knew this when I watched the show, but APPARENTLY the "black screen" moments, represent the times that Araragi closes his eyes. He is the focal character, and since he is unable to see his surroundings, neither are we, the viewers. I thought that was pretty interesting.

NecDW4

In todays episode, the crew learns about the SHAFT budget.

NecDW4
>>66928665

Actually everything in the show is from his perspective. Its also why theres so much weird imagery, because it's more his impression of what's going on than the literal of it. Also why the show tries to make him look "cool" even when hes getting his ass beat, because he's telling the story from his point of view, and trying to make himself look good. things like the infamous "walk her home gently" meme. LITERALLY all he did was walk her home and be nice a bit, but they way he tells the story is vague enough that you jump to the conclusion that he got sum. Except later on in the series he gets outed as still being a virgin.

Kira V

Love seeing fellow Black anime fans, love you guys for watching one of my favorite series

Cablemonkey

Old thread, but had to say it. If I heard right and Sheera said “Akuuuuuu” with the shadows moving, my love for you guys just went up tenfold.

Anonymous
>>66847513

@Sebastian Stróż Naw, Monogatari genuinely sucks ass and is trash just like Mushoku. Its pretty much just pure fetish material for you pedo coomers to get off on. Its not like there is any plot or anything of actual substance in this anime or Mushoku. Besides unnecessary ass fanservice.

Anonymous
>>66727925

@Reign the show is overhyped. Its just you pathetic loser coomers are making this trash show to be more complex then it actually is. Monogatari is typical echi fanservice trash. Yet you brainlet morons try to make it out to be some god tier show. So, Shut the fuck up you stupid weeb incel.

Anonymous
>>66741936

@Toshi Nope, he is right. You're just another pathetic punk ass bitch. That cant accept that your show is pedo trash lol

Anonymous
>>66741936

@Hex Eclipse That's a lot of delusion from another dumbass coomer. Keep on coping. There is nothing amazing about this show outside of the animation. Its a typical echi fanservice trash show. This show would of been better off as a hentai and you idiots know it.

Anonymous
>>66741936

@Arknightoni Naw or japanse niggas could just stop adding weird ass fuck shit to there anime. Stop excusing it you weeb bitch. There are plenty of anime that don't need to rely on pedo fanservice to satisfy the loser coomers like you

The Anime Dude

Only a few minutes in, but for some reason Sheera saying “is there no dialogue?” cracked me up more than it should’ve. 😂😂😂
