Something interesting about this show is that the opening songs are actually sung by their respective characters (the Hitagi Crab OP is sung by Hitagi Senjougahara's VA, the Karen Bee OP is sung by Araragi Karen's VA, etc.)

Introduction to Best Girl

XWF Outlaw

Agaragi doing the 'Akira' bike slide.

NecDW4

"Who the fuck is that?" That would be the ACTUAL Best Girl™

NecDW4

I dont remember if its brought up in the anime, i know it was in the book. Hanekawa straight up told Gahara that she'd tell Araragi that she loved him if she didnt let him go. THAT is how afraid of Hanekawa she is, to absolutely, positively make her drop the tsundere act and kowtow to her tiniest whim. She KNOWS Hanekawa wants Araragi, and she KNOWS Araragi might not be able to resist. And because i know its not brought up in the anime... the 1/3 of the aura is referring to Kanbaru's arm. She used 2 of the 3 wishes, Kaiki could feel that there was only 1 left, and wasnt worried about her using it.

Kriolemansus

There's a ton of Japanese word play and references in this series. It can be really hard to translate them in way that makes sense. So, whenever there's a line that doesn't make any sense its safe to assume it was either a pun or a reference to something Japanese.

Sun

It is brought up in the anime. Probably next episode

Mirrorline

At the end of the episode, they wanted to hint at you that Senjougahara is actually afraid of Hanekawa and that is why she apologize to Araragi because that's what Hanekawa told her to do..there's gonna be a bit more scenes to explain more in future episode why Senjougahara is afraid of Hanekawa..so yeah..just keep your eyes open.

Sun

They already know that lmao This is literally their third reaction of the series...

None None

"Ahoge" (idiot hair) is what you call that one piece of hair that sticks up on some anime characters, like Araragi.

NecDW4

A personality quirk, that comes up once ever and is never mentioned again isnt a spoiler. Yall need to chill.

NecDW4

Must not have been that big a spoiler if you feel like drawing further attention to it, eh?

Taylor Moon

What you guys were talking about at the start, I've personally seen people say that in the past. But glad you guys undertand now :)

NecDW4

Thats actually common in a lot of anime, the VAs singing OP/EDs. Its why being a VA in Japan is seen as a bit more prestigious than it is here. You arent just doing a voice, but have to have a general well rounded set of skills.

Pyne

Guess I need to watch some different anime then, cause most of the ones I've seen have bands or singers do the OPs. I know it's still done (Sakui Bisco did it with their OP), just didn't realize it was a common occurrence.

Mirrorline

Well they are confused about that last scene.. that's why I explained the situation but didnt tell the reaso Senjougahara acted like that. Dont get me wrong dude I really appreciate you explaining to them a lot of things about the series and really thankful for it. Its just that I think you might have actually spoiled on one of those scene that's gonna be entertaining for us to see their reaction to. Maybe the way I worded my reply to your comment makes it seems like im being hostile to you, but really I not. I think its cool of you for explaining certain stuff that's in the show that a lot of people dont know

NecDW4

Well, like i said in my comment, i legit didnt remember if it came up or not in the series since it had been years. I only remembered it being one of Araragi's mental monologues from the book and it being a fairly minor thing, didnt think it was "spoils". Its just a scene to show that even though Hitagi is willing to kidnap, berate, and basically torture him, she REALLY does actually love and cherish him. Just a background detail, not a plot point per-se. I didnt feel you were being hostile or anything, no worries, i just thought it weird that someone would call out a spoiler... then go ahead and bring it right back up is all.

NecDW4

I think it comes up a lot more in less-shounen shows. Slice of life seems to get it a lot, things that are more character-centric than action oriented, though i wouldnt be at all surprised to find out a few battle shows did it as well. *edit* For example Kanbaru's VA did songs for Sword Art and NGNL (where i just now found out she voiced Izuna of all characters) Discography "Solitary Bullet" (Sword Art Online Character Song) "Blazing Bullet" (Sword Art Online Character Song with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)[97] "Relief Bullet" (Sword Art Online Character Song) "Onegai☆Snyaiper" (No Game No Life Character Song) "Red Concerto" (Go! Princess Precure Character Song) "ENDLESS TORCH!" (Go! Princess Precure Character Song) "Rouge no Dengon" ( Durarara!! character song)

Mirrorline

Oh that's probably because i went straight typing in the comment section as soon as the video end without checking if anybody else have explained about the last scene lmao. I assumed nobody told them yet since i was watching it as soon as they posted the video.

NecDW4

Ahhh, yeah, i can see that. I dropped three as i watched, but since other comments dont show up till you refresh its easy to miss the things other people say. And since on my end they both showed up as being exactly the same timeframe (x minutes ago) it just seemed weird. lol

Near

Ma boi Kaiki finally here

NecDW4

I REALLY helps make sense of the show. They'll probably notice it really hard the few times it DOESNT go full artsy with things.

What you might need to understand that the Monogatari series is about 90% skits (i.e. Hachikuji & Araragi) and 10% plot progress. It's the Nisioisin (book author)'s writing style, a ton of conversations with comedy and puns, mostly character driven. Lack of people other than the main cast is also his style, some could interpret it differently though. A fun little fact is that many light novel contests banned that writing style because of the surge of copycats and wannabes back then, when the popularity of the series was at its peak. Also about the visuals, the anime exaggerated some bits for stylish choices. For example, Araragi's house is some kinda of a big mansion with a gym-sized bathroom (which you will see later), but it's just normal house with normal-sized bathroom in the novel, which could confuse you. Very (over)dramatic/extra character reactions and animations is also for the styles and also to "compensate" for massive dialogues. Anyway, for Nisemnogatari's case, it is really a bonus book, majorly for comedy and degen stuff with new character introductions. Just adjust your expectations if you are expecting the same thing like Bakemonogatari and Kizumonogatari.

Trinares

There's something about this series that makes people want to explain everything. Just keep going with the flow and, hopefully, enjoy yourselves. Really hope you'll eventually finish the whole series.

Zenrake 23

tell me you gonna watch the movie from no game no life please :o

James Ancester

Best girl has arrived. And yes, I am talking about Kaiki.

YaBoyLoshi

do you guys plan on watching jjk 0 movie?

Izaya

Well, the monogatari franchise, originally a Light Novel series is famous for its nonstandard writing and the author is widely considered a genius in the storytelling department in the Light Novel community. So monogatari has good story but its more about the message and the unique storytelling then the story itself. Its not simple entertainment, its art; thats why its not mainstream, cause your average shonen watcher cant possibly understand the connotations in this show. You are basically here for the ride and for the unique "direction" the episodes have. As i said, the series is originally a Light Novel title so Shaft studio did its best to be able to transport the craziness and the artistic value of the Monogatari series to the anime format. Everything on the screen has hidden meaning that is not gonna be brought up again, so its up to you to catch it or not since a good portion of the story is told via metaphors and visual displays. Its less of a big brain story with fan service and more of a innovating way of storytelling that, in turn, includes fan service (female fanservice specifically). It also tries to simulate real life interactions, where we not always control the flow of the conversation since we dont have a plot to follow. Thats why it might be boring to some people and it might throw them off as well as break their immersion. Of course i dont expect everyone to be able to understand it, since its more underground and less pop culture.

Mal

Think they said they're seeing it in theatres

Smash Bran'Discootch

Holy shit dude. Okay like, **I** am a pretentious asshole who loves to hear himself talk, and even I am taken aback by how far up your own ass you are. The sheer amount of hipster bullshit that you're spewing is genuinely impressive. You ticked all of the stereotypical hipster boxes. The "Oh well it's underground so you probably havent heard of it", "I dont expect most people to get it", "Its not just a show, it's ART". Christ's Cunt, the only thing you missed was describing it as "avant garde". $20 says you're wearing thick black rimmed Buddy Holly glasses and a fucking fedora. Get the fuck over yourself dude.

Panda

This is on the level of the "High IQ rick and morty viewers" copy pasta and i love it.

None None

10/10 if this post is meant to funny (I love the stuff about "average shonen watchers" paired with that avatar) 0/10 if it's unironic

Vee

"its art; thats why its not mainstream, cause your average shonen watcher cant possibly understand the connotations in this show" Monogatari was literally the highest grossing anime series by blu-ray of the late 2000s and early 2010s.

rileya

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the Monogatari series. The wordplay is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of advanced Japanese most of the writing will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Araragi's imperfect memory, a quality which is deftly woven into the style in which the story is presented. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the multifaceted nature of the dialogue, to realise that they're not spewing puns- they say something deep about the intricacies of the language. As a consequence people who dislike the Monogatari series truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Hanekawa's observant catchphrase "I only know what I know," which itself is a cryptic reference to Plato's account of the Socratic paradox. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as NISIOISIN's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, I DO have a Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothing personnel kid.

Ignacio Irarrazaval

It is not only that the anime is shown through Araragi's perspective, but it is a story told by the narrator, who in this case is Araragi, so that there are no more characters only means that he does not pay attention or speak of more people, that there are so many books in Kanbaru's room is because Araragi exaggerates the number of books in his story to us, etc.

Scott Riley Adrueno

I'm a Monogatari fan and even I think this is just ridiculous. The story is not that deep. The dialogue and wordplay are nuanced, yes, but never really deep.

Simone Resni

The greatest waifu of ALL TIMES is upon us <3
