curious to see what the long play is here lol

Ethan

So, correct me if I'm wrong but Ainz/Nazarick didn't care what the outcome of this fight was, but they wanted to essentially cover two objectives: 1. Make Cocytus a capable army leader rather than just a good fighter (he's the best weapon user out of the floor guardians, aside maybe Shalltear with her OP weapon). Essentially the only capable leader's for an army right now would probably be Albedo or Demiurge, and they have their own stuff to deal with, so it would expand Nazarick's versatility. 2. Essentially do a trial run and see what it would be like for a superior force of Nazarick to go against a weaker enemy. As you can see, even though Ainz's force was stronger, the Lizardmen were fractured tribally and had very little resources/fighting power they still won the battle on their home turf. So now imagine going against the Slane Theocracy which had the ability to control Shalltear. Basically, it's their way of showing Cocytus that superior forces doesn't equate to victory against a weaker enemy. You need intelligence, tactics, and know their advantages on their home turf. A good real world example of this could be the Vietnam War or say Napolean's tactics.

Uriel Batuk

The 5 lizard men tribes got together like the 5 shinobi village alliance did to face Madara in the war

DefianceR6

Is 2x4 coming today as well?

LordTouchMe

Can't wait for the next arc...! Love the lizard men saga, but whats coming next? Hmmm 😏

Spearbearer Josh

I love how its showing the lives of lesser beings and getting you invested. Thats one of the beauties of Overlord, it basically turned into LizardMan the anime with nakama flashbacks and talk-jutsu and we are all here for it

Mari

The goal was to help Cocytus realize his shortcomings with completely following Ainz orders every single time, and to help him grow as a commander by realizing why the situation was so difficult and how he could have solved it. Basically

Lucky Licks

Wow, when I first watched this part of the show this literally went over my head. Good explanation

delete

"Lizzussy"

Kwaku Afari

I thought I remember Ainz saying he wanted to invade them to use their corpses to create stronger skeletal knights. Unless I'm tripping

Jose silva

Guys at least watch the Ed once lol specially episode 7.

Immoral Mortal

I forgot how bad this lizard arc was, i just could not get myself to care about any of it

Mari

Nah you’re right , he said that, you’ll see what he plans to do next episode

Argent6

definitely watch the ed, it's really fire

MackXi

Told my hommie it was trash when it came out. Man now agrees with me.

Devin B

Yeah cause creating undead from human corpses can only get to level 40 at most so he's trying to make undead from different species

Ethan

Yeah, I feel like that's one of the core concepts that Overlord tries to portray through Ainz and the other guardians. On paper he wouldn't stand a chance in hell against Shalltear, which even the other guardians agreed with. But with experience, tactics and knowledge of her build he flawlessly beat their strongest pvp guardian. Albeit I think the anime portrays Ainz's paranoia in more of a comedic way compared to the novels, he's pretty intelligent for an average human and understands that underestimating player characters was death in the game. Tbh iirc his guild members either dealt with or were player killers too who specifically hunted other players, hence his excessive anti divination and protection spells.

Ethan

Yeah, it's definitely one of the slowest arcs with the lowest stakes; tribal lizards aren't really a big deal in terms of international resources or diplomacy lol. Unless I forgot something, like every other arc after this is way more interesting even if it follows a similar formula.

Godrick

its definitely the weakest arc, but it comes back a little in season 3, and itll play a much bigger part in season 4

Angrymanjuu

Some things that will not be explained in anime: Rororo the Hydra was abandoned by his family since he was born with only four heads instead of eight and was therefore seen as weak. Fortunately, he was found and nurtured by Zaryusu during his travels. After this, he sees the Lizardmen, Zaryusu in particular, as his family ever since. At some point in time, while growing up, it learned to understand the lizardmen language.

Umbra_Nex

If you are looking forward to the reaction, why would you spoil that? Now they are going to expect it and the reaction will be way less :(

Arc

Of course they wanted them to win. Ainz could've killed them in 1 second without them even seeing him.

CJ

Isn't all this covered in the next episode?

CJ

Guys like this made them stop reacting to this show back in the day

coot

Fun little detail they mention in the LN but not the anime, that one lizard man chief with the bone armour, the armour he is wearing is another one of the "legendary treasures" like frost pain to the lizardmen. It basically makes whoever wears it dumber in exchange for becoming harder, and this chief was an absolute genius beforehand, because it is said to be as hard as adamantite on him, as well as the fact that he is the only lizardman so far capable of speech after donning it, so him talking broken and slowly while wearing it is actually an amazing feet among lizardmen.

Mari

Yeah, ain’s really didn’t care if cocytus won or lost, he just was testing cocytus, if ain’s really wanted to win, he could have sent 1 of the battle maid’s to kill all of them easily

Liudmila Duk

day 17 saying that the trio react to kanata no astra

Ethan

I literally just extrapolated from what Demiurge said *this* episode. "Why did Lord Ainz raise an army of low-level servants? Perhaps, Lord Ainz wished for you to think for yourself and gather some intelligence to help pursue victory? It could be a plan to promote your awareness. Additionally, the name Nazarick was never put forth and you yourself were forbidden to move on them, which would mean..." Lupa literally understood what was happening during this scene and joked it's essentially showing that Cocytus is stupid and can't do stuff for himself. If I've somehow spoiled an ep I haven't watched in 2 years then I'll delete my comment. But I made that comment based on what was said this episode and visual clues throughout it. It's not like I watched the next episode and came back to this one rubbing my hands like a villain wanting to spoil them lmao.

Normadus

we really need more anime like AoT that add additional info about different stuff in the middle of the episode , so people can know more about story and world

Danny

it def aint a good arc but i actually found myself pretty invested (anime watcher only) in the first 3 eps. i literally had the same reaction as them lol. at first im like where tf is ainz. and by the 3rd ep im like "ayo this lizard story actually getting me invested in these random ass lizardmen"

Ethan

@Don Yeah, honestly that's one of the reasons why the show is liked a lot, at least for me. It's similar to Haikyuu but more in depth, where you spend time with the "enemy/other team" and grow to like and understand them so when both Ainz and the other faction meet, they're not nameless caricatures and you can root for both teams. Raises the stakes more I think.

SolarPaul

The lizard arc is fucking weird man, I remember hating it the first time around, but in retrospect and watching it again now it's actually pretty fun lol

None None

I remember some older LN adaptions like Shokugan no Shana (Naze Nani Shana: Ask Anything Question Box!) and Fate/Zero (Einzberg Dojo) had DVD bonus features where the characters talk directly to the audience and just dump all of the random exposition they had to leave out of the anime. Like all of the stuff about why there are 100 Hassans was left out of Fate/Zero, but in the bonus feature they bring him in and interview him so he can give an explanation for who he is and how his powers work (the Fate ones, in particular, were like 20 minutes long each because they had so much shit to talk about). I'm amazed Overlord doesn't have anything like that, since it seems to have a LOT of Bluray bonus features.

None None

I don't know what Kanata no Astra is, but I'm making a point not to vote for it if it makes it to poll.

Jdogzero Silverblade

tbh an actual fight between these 2 would be something neet. just dress up as your GOW cosplay for fun.

coot

Oh damn that sounds sick. What blu-ray bonus features does overlord have? I own all the LN's but haven't bought the blu-rays, i assumed ple-ple-pleadeis was from the blu rays but idk

Stephen D

Nah. He could have just done his own version of the rumbling by having Gargantua walk through their villages. No really fight just pure chaos and confusion.

Stephen D

Madara was pretty much playing with them. It wasn't until Hashirama pulled up that he took the kiddy gloves off.

None None

Mostly stuff like a bunch of exclusive audio dramas and light novel side chapters produced specifically as bonuses for the bluray box (even a couple exclusive manga chapters). And Ple-ple-pleadeis. Season 1, especially, was originally released on 6 discs and each other them has a couple of things like that, so it adds up.

coot

damn maybe i need to buy the blu-rays, but they are just so expensive it is hard to justify lol.

PreachThePeach

only thing i hate is that you only watched 1 ep this week :((( heart = broken

Aziouss

I was surprised by this arc at first i felt like it was not really related but i just fell in love with dam lizards XD Like this is a typical hero epic but from such a different perspective of tribal people.

The Divided One

I understand not caring about the Lizards themselves, I certainly don't, but some of you really are too impatient to appreciate world building lol.

Yanpo

If you want me to fall in love with your story, do some world building. The Lizard arc is the weakest arc, especially when compared with what's coming up next, but it's still very well made and worthy of its own anime. I'm also Horde, so I eat up any stories where the protagonists are the "monsters".

Thamor

There is actually a funny podcast style of Overlord, Ainz and some of his guardians play Dungeons&Dragons with Ainz as the game master and the guardians constantly try to bend the rules and cheat. It's funny as hell and can be found on youtube.

Mari

I really don’t get what the problem is, even though it’s the weakest arc, it’s not like it’s trash

Fabi

I enjoyed it. at first it's weird but word building. and it's nice to see the percpective of others

Fabi

yeah the anime has a little problem with CGI

Fabi

the same with their alcohol thing they posses. I think the warrior tribe had it. that "barrel" produces unlimited alcohol but it's not great

Rena

looking forward to roshi and lupa fight to the death
