The scene of Noe watching them from the roof and then saying he knew they were back: it never happened in the source material. In the manga, Noe never sees them together and the only reason he gets on top of the roof is because he forgot how to get back and was trying to find the café from above. Anime makes Noe look butt-hurt for seeing Vanitas dating just for the queer baiting.

I've watched this episode 3 times & I still don't know what Noe's deal was. At first, I thought he liked Jeane as Domi assumes, but some believe It was Vanitas. I have no idea even after finishing the series. I don't think there was ever a call back to it either. Maybe because it was anime original?

After reading the manga, it is more clear to me that Noe has some kind of crush on Jeanne but hasn’t realize yet. But they never really explore it after this so maybe the author, as the chapters unfolded, kind of let this idea go? Or maybe will revisit it later? They never really talk alone so you never see Noe and Jeanne form a strong friendship so maybe it was difficult to see a potential romance between them? But it is kind of subtle and he seems equally fascinated by Vanitas so I can’t really fault anyone for thinking he’s into Vanitas XD It would be very bold for an anime.

I think Noe is just very Naive in alot of things, with how the rest of the season plays out and from stuff the author has said im pretty sure they are just best friend type relationship, this ep does a good job trying to bait Noe and Vanitas though lol

I think Noé questioned Vanitas about love and his personal feelings with Jeanne to compare his feelings with Domi. Which is unfortunate because Domi loves him romantically and he perhaps loves her as a sister.

Domi thinks Noé likes Jeanne and not Vanitas. Considering how she detests Vanitas I'm pretty sure she would have reacted worse if she thought Noé liked him. Also Noé doesn't know that Domi likes him, he seems to be very oblivious too such things. That's why she calls him a fool. Heck he doesn't even understand himself and his own feelings... I am very surprised that Roshi took it right away as Noé developing feelings for Vanitas and also said "I liked Louis" (When Domi and Noé was on the roof) because honestly I believe so too. And a lot of people who are not fujoshi but enjoy the story for what it is believes so too. Those going on total defense with "This isn't yaoi" do we really have to label it like that just because a main character potentially harbour feelings for a male counterpart? Can we not enjoy a story without getting our panties twisted over same gender attraction when that's not even the main thing? The problem is not those who believe Noé might like Vanitas the problem are those who are hyperfixated on "ew gay, story ruined😡" If you define a story worthy of by whether gay or straight then I'm sorry for you.

I don't think Noe likes Vanitas. When Vanitas was telling Jeanne how he felt about her, I think Noe realized he feels the same way when Domi sucks his blood. Noe always saw Domi as a sister, but now he's realizing that the feelings he has may possibly be love.

The queerbaiting makes sense. With character designs like this, you're bound to have a lot of fujoshi fangirls. Then again, they did the same thing with Domi dancing with Jeanne which also felt weird. Domi dancing with Jeanne to make Noe jealous doesn't make sense. If anything it would've made more sense to dance with Vanitas.

LOL! When he said "What is this show?" I DIED!!! I felt the same way when I watched this episode the first time. About Noé, it's not that he loves Vanitas, I think he genuinely wanted to taste his blood, plus, Noé is also very child-like and naive in many ways, so when he's asking about love, etc., it's because he's genuinely interested in learning about why people like each other, etc., since he can clearly see a connection between Vanitas and Jeanne. And that's also why Domi calls him a fool, because she's also clearly pursuing Noé, and he's totally oblivious to her feelings as well. You guys will learn more about why Vanitas talked about not being interested in the kind of person who'd love someone like him in the future, although he's still a very mysterious character for sure.

I actually disagree. Noe doesn't really know what love is, but he is showing interest to Vanitas in the sense of love what they talked here. So there is attraction for Noe in Vanitas

Noe has a crush on Jeanne. When Vanitas explains the feelings of love, Noe keep looking at Jeanne to confirm he does like her in certain way. You guys missed it when he was trying to ask Jeanne for a dance but got interrupted by Domi. Also, Domi knows Noe's feelings towards Jeanne. But Noe is actually interested in Vanitas's blood.

Well I'm glad there are those that can be indifferent about it. But unfortunately there are those who go absolutely apeshit about some interpretating this as Noé potentially liking Vanitas which is just beyond me. It shouldn't need to be such big of a deal. Fyi Noe doesn't have a crush on Jeanne, at least not in the manga. I think Noe is just very curious about the connection between Vanitas and Jeanne because he himself doesn't really understand love, hence why Domi calls him a fool. I think Noe was just asking Jeanne to dance to be polite.

why do you think it would be bold for an anime? there are many shonen ai and yaoi anime out there....gravitation, kyo kara maoh, given, super lovers, and one that is on the poll to name few. there are even more manga: hands off, legal drug, tokyo babylon (also an anime), card capture sakura has a gay couple. japan has always been totally fine with homosexual depiction in anime and manga, its the west thats uptight about it

Besides CLAMP titles, it is still pretty rare in mainstream anime I would say. Banana Fish and Yuri on Ice are some I can think about recently, but if not you have to turn to yaoi. I don’t have a problem with it, but we have to keep in mind that the bulk of it is made by women and women was the main target audience at first. It would be fun to see it more in other category of anime. And just because Japan has learn how to pander to every audience, does not mean homophobia does not exist either. Otherwise I would think there would be homosexual couple in every genre. Anyway, still better than representation in american tv or even my local tv. Just, I wish people would think less about it as : what are you talking about, there’s yaoi right there.

There's a TON of misdirecting in this show.... but also a ton of non-misdirecting. They mix it up so much. But there are certain visual queues that should tip you off on certain things. Like Noe seems to have a crush on Jeanne. Sure he's really attached to Vanitas, and yeah the show is really going out of its way to be like, "B R O M A N C E"...... but after seeing how he looks at Jeanne, the vibes seem a bit different. The difference is subtle, though. Still kinda amazing that you could not pick up Noe crushing on Jeanne.... they blasted that in your face pretty hard. Ultimately though for me personally, I'm all for Vanitas x Jeanne and Noe x Domi. Or uh.... "Jeannitas" and "Nomi." XD

I read the manga and only in this scene that you can see Noe maybe have a crush on Jeanne but I think the author scraped it off from the story. If you look again in the manga, Noe blush a little when he asked for the dance and have doki moment when Jeanne thanked him. But perhaps it also can mean as something else. It wasn't obvious in the manga as well.
