It's a genre that relies heavily on being ridiculously edgy and shit. If you can buy in to them they're fun, but I've never really enjoyed too many of them.

Yea it gets better as it goes, I think a lot of people kinda give up on it because people have burnout on this "gambling / battle royal / squid game" genre, but things get a lot more intense around episode 5 and it kinda goes off after that.

Most people who've watched at least 10 anime have seen Death Note. It's an introductory series. Don't even bother asking people if they've seen it. Pretty obvious.

Maybe it was an introductory series 10-15 years ago, but times change. Bebop used to be one of the shows that was an "introduction series", but with everything that has been released since anime has become more mainstream, unless you've been in with anime from the Toonami days (or whatever is the closest regional equivalent) or before it might be passed the cutoff point. As far as Sheera, Roshi, and Lupa are concerned, though, they have likely seen it.

i think they all have debt (not counting yuichi) but that doesnt mean they are the ones that setup this game. everyone got a letter that said its from yuichi vs each one saying its from a different person...its possible someone else (like the teacher) is doing a win win situation: if they win, my debt is clear, if they lose, they suffer with me. instead of taking the risk themselves and increasing their debt. but one thing is clear: they are so not real friends. if you are friends you are family and have no secrets. lets say one is struggling financially so they take out a loan or start gambling. how do you not know this information about your "friend"? how do you not share this with your friends? they are kids. in japan. they not talking to a therapist about this shit so that leaves FRIENDS. thats the point of having people in your life. they are there to share your life with, to ask for advice or help. if one or more of them is behind this: they are trash. even more so since they could have come clean when they were in the white room

The way i figure It, last question you gotta pick yes because the penalty only happens if you miss every question otherwise you dont lose more then you started the game. that way 4 people cut the debt in half and no one has to take on everyones debt

Bro... i love my friends but im not about to pay 4 million debt for them. I could help them but not with this weird ass game and definitely not 4 million yen. Not to mention, Shiho is so suspicious. The only person who would suggest not asking who has the debt and what the debt was for is obviously the person who has the damn debt. And no im not about to let a mascot gaslight me into taking on 4million debt, especially if im like the mc who is broke as fk. I mean, if I was going to be forced to pay 4 million in the first place I'd rather know who's fault the fuck it is. You need to be accountable for your actions.
