grodon909

Time for a ride! Edit: spoiler free comment, but this and sailor moon are both under the category of magical girl anime, but they are both very influential in their genre.

Illium

Can’t wait

Aniki Pft

peak bruh, and yes the same studio that did the monogatari series; shaft also did madoka magica.

LelaniG

Oooh shit

Cheesecake

All good roshi you know we can’t read anyways

eastbaynick

Ah yes, I have been waiting 84 years for this

Kisuke01

I haven't seen this anime since the summer of 83

Villenthessis

Oh god, this is going to be a trip. SHAFT animation for the win!

DBR

Damn you guys really know how to keep my money lol

awwtysm

its the same studio as monogatari and they have a very distinct style so thats why it feels the same

NecDW4

ITS FUCKING CHRISTMAS!

Drakey

I dont know how far you guys record but make sure to keep an eye out for the outro on EP 3

damnjerick

RAHHHHHHHH LETS GOOO

Homura

This was written by the person who wrote Fate/Zero, hope you guys enjoy the ride! Same studio as Monogatari so keep and eye on the ED, Homura also has the same voice actress as Senjougahara and Sayaka(blue haired girl) is the same as Karen!

MDLNubes

The head bopping to op had me dying

NecDW4

"This reminds me of Monogatari" So, fun fact... theyre both SHAFT shows.

Antonio Williams

Just getting this started since this will be a short series. I HIGHLY Shinsekai Yori as short series that's more than worth a reaction

jerimiah

yall need to watch brother

Benjamin Moore

As a math major, that was some graduate school level calculus btw. I think I paused it there before and looked it over. Also yeah this is another Shaft anime like Monogatari.

Dennis Bell

i’m new to patreon n yall upload fast asf aye i’m stayin for good nfs

Anonymous

Eyyyyooo! Let's go!

Jazmyne Mattucci

this show is just the magical girl genre. So all the Sailor Moon 'refs' is just the basic magical girl tropes. So welcome to the Magical Girl genre finally.

Tuny kun

People have always scared me away from watching this so I'm glad y'all are getting into it.

MDLNubes
>>115323881

For Juniors in High School, I think it would be Pre-Cal, but idk Japanese school systems.

Brandon

Can you check out lookism

GigaDirt
>>115323674

Shinsekai yori is way to underrated for its own good, show is beautiful but no one knows about it lol

flood

Kino

Sun
>>115323881

As a ME major, those brought back some memories.

Isaac

I actually never seen this series but I hear it's one of leading animes that started the 3 episode trend to test if an anime is worth your time.

Danny

Gatchaman Crowds would be dope short show to react to

hix

LongBoyy

This anime is animated by the same animation studio (shaft) as Monogatari series. So you guys were right for pointing it out the first time.

Kami_Psy

Stuff like Sailor Moon with girls that have transformations and special powers is a whole genre called "Maho Shojo" which means "Magical Girl". So it reminds you of Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura because it's the same genre but there are lots of other anime like that too. Imo I think Madoka Magica is the best magical girl anime because it's a bit more special than the others.

Sun
>>115323674

It has 25 episodes, I wouldn't consider it a short series lol\

Denickart

This is definitely by the same studio as Monogatari, Shaft. You can tell because they do their trademark dramatic head tilt.

Charlie baker
>>115325080

theyve watched so much of monogatari at this point bro cant believe people still got attitude about shit like that

Saeng

They don’t watch outros anymore?

KimKaiRen

This show is like a deconstruction of the whole magical girl genre. Sailor Moon is a quintessential magical girl anime.

Ivan

yall aint ready for the urubucher tom fuckery

Sierra Salazar

I don't know if 91 Days has been recommended yet, another good show.

Greg Harrison

Monogatari and Madoka are the same studio, right? Or am I thinking of something else? *Edit, oh people already answered yes. Anyway, hyped to see more.

Viela Guay
>>115326694

Seconded. Nice short little story that's a fun genre we don't get too much in anime (at least not to the degree of emulation tried in 91 days)

Ice
>>115326867

They are. Madoka's success is what made the studio able to adapt the rest of monogatari with relative qualitycompared to bakemonogatari. Bakemonogatari was released largely unfinished, which is where all the monochrome color shots come from. It was later left in for the monogatari style.

DevilMayCarter

I'm so glad y'all are watching this. Actually, looking forward to Sheera specifically on this one. So many magical girl references over the years in reactions, wanting to see the dynamic in this one with you guys!

Anbu Bunny -3-

I’m only 4 mins in and this shit looks boring af, is this gas or nah?

Ice
>>115327830

It's one of the most influential anime ever made. I would say watch to ep 3 and decide then. If you like made in abyss, you'll most likely like this.

Ice
>>115325080

It's been 2 years since we've started. I'm not the impatient type bit 2 years for 50 episodes is kind of insane.

Greg Harrison
>>115325080

They'll get to it when they get to it. Owari's my favorite but I can wait for whenever there's an opening. There was also a pause between tsuki and hana too, so you gotta wait. Honestly Mono reactions are kinda bonus, if you think about it, complaining won't help it'd prob make them drop it.

Cordifly

This is shaft the same studio as monogatari. They are def my favorite

Outcast107

Have no fear! For the dayman is here! Ahhh I'm so happy this is happening. So many memes. So much awesome in the upcoming episodes. Hoping you guys also watch the movie (3rd movie. First two are recaps)

Charlie baker
>>115325080

Not really my guy, its not a show they want to binge all at once its why they break up the seasons. Frankly that show gets more then most, baki got 2 whole seasons skipped for convenience.

Ice

Just to clarify, this show is pretty much what allowed shaft to continue working on monogatari after bakemonogatari. Shaft has always had a low budget and not many staff, so they've had to be more creative in their animation to compensate. Shaft has often released legitimately unfinished anime, which is what happened with bakemonogatari. The monochrome screens in monogatari were notes on what scenes are missing. Shaft later left them in for the rest of the series as part of the monogatari style. Madoka was a smash hit because of its unique twist on the magical girl genre. It gave the studio enough budget to see a noticeable difference in animation from bakemonogatari to nisemonogatari. Hope you guys enjoy the show. P. S. I understand you have a full schedule, but please try and continue monogatari. People like to act as if monogatari is this neverending series, but its only about 80 episodes. That's shorter than AOT. It's been 2 years and we've managed to get through about 60 episodes. We're at the ending stretch where everything starts coming together so it's really not good for anybody if we keep having 5 month breaks every 5 episodes. Especially for comprehending the story. I'm a patient guy, I can wait for 5 more years, but monogatari really isn't the kind of story you can fully understand if you take breaks this long. It's like watching 1 episode of oddtaxi every 2 months and trying to understand what's happening. If you're not enjoying the series, it's better to just drop it. But please at least tell us. Much love! (The P. S. has become longer than the original comment lmao.)

DevilMayCarter

And yes Sheera, Artemus was Sailor Venus' cat!

Greg Harrison
>>115328495

Chill, they will get to it when they get to it. Owari is my favorite, but you gotta be patient, there was a big break between Tsuki and Hana too. Also, complaining won't help them not drop it.

Charlie baker
>>115328495

think youre overestimating how much anyone takes away from a first watch through of monogatari especially in a group setting like this where they are trying to entertain anyway tbf lol. i was pausing my ass off to catch half of what was going on when i jumped into the series. Plus fans managed just fine with years between seasons

Prisoner5580

HELL YEAH! Gen Urobutcher doing the lords work, very excited to see the crews reaction to this

LordTouchMe

LET'S. FUCKING. GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Yung Shen Chew

The black haired girl has the same voice actor as Senjougahara Hitagi in Bakemonogatari!

Joydan Bri’an

watching this when i was a fetus felt like a fever dream cause i don’t remember anything but the 3rd episode

Ice
>>115328495

I am by no means complaining. As I said, I can wait as long as needed. It'd be egotistical to think this entire patreon community is centred around one trashy harem anime. I just genuinely think it'd be better for everybody here if we just got the series over with. Even for people not watching the show. I also understand that their schedule is filled to the brim with upcoming new releases.

Davon Thomas

They could of watched Ghost Stories English dub if they needed something short and entertaining

Ice
>>115329522

Or they can watch one of the most influencial anime series of all time. (Plus I think ghost stories is 24 episodes)

flood
>>115328495

Bakemonogatari also sold extremely well, so it probably helped finance Madoka lol. The cycle

Benjamin Moore
>>115323881

I checked out the question on a wiki. This 1st question isn't all that bad. I think the next one stumped me as an undergrad though(the one I was thinking about). Regardless some of these questions definitely ain't high school level math. Unless Japan is just on another level.

Levi Blair
>>115329522

ghost stories is twice as long and this has been considered a must watch anime for around 10 years now.

Hi How are ya

Man y’all in for the craziest ride lol this shit pops off hard later.

Davido

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Levi Blair
>>115328495

@IceCP In what world is Monogatari a trashy harem series??? Can't tell if that was a joke.

Levi Blair
>>115325327

Madoka is definitely up there with best magical girl shows without a doubt. Symphogear, Revolutionary Girl Utena and Kill La Kill (yes it is a magical girl show among other genres) definitely give it a run for its money though.

Sham3ful
>>115325327

This & Yuki Yuna Is A Hero are both gas, especially with both of their OST going crazy

Sham3ful

Waiting to see the reaction to the outro of ep 3 👀

Julian_lol

BTW this show is one of Nozume Abe's first big shows that he animated for very few know him by name but you all have definitely seen his works Tanjiro vs. Rui, Rengoku vs Akaza, Uzui vs Gyutaro final fight, Tanjiros sun halo dragon in S3 ep 5 and he has many other works in fate etc. But this is him in his early stages and he is credited as the main action animator. Y'all should be hype.

KuyagramTV
>>115327830

It's similar to Evangelion where Eva deconstructed/became the antithesis of the "mecha" genre and didn't glorify being a mecha pilot, and that it's actually tragic to be the hero. Madoka is similar but for the magical girl genre (sailor moon) as well as Super Sentai (Power Rangers)

KuyagramTV
>>115325437

Also the quick cuts and mix of different styles of art that's sometimes off putting but in a very intentional way. Like the way they draw the witches is so weird but that's also the point

KuyagramTV
>>115326305

Yep, same way Evangelion was to mecha like Gundam, Madoka is the same with magical girls like Sailor Moon

KuyagramTV

Yeah this is like the Evangelion of the "Sailor Moon" magical girl genre. Deconstructs and doesn't glorify the main concept. It's great too cuz it's so short and compact, really gets to the point with no BS in between.

L.C.

We never gonna get danmachi. Its pretty apparent at this point

Oh Alone

I hope you guys do not skip ED episode 3 and 10

jay

Someone described this anime as "I wanted sailor moon and I got dark souls"

RoxyMgreyray

Oh Just wanted to add that Roshi was right with the Director comment, this anime was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, the same director of Monogatary, also that was animated by Studio Shaft. The head tilt is a shinbo thing that became an staple for shaft

Ice
>>115352159

Easiest way to notice someone has never seen madoka is when they say it's a "cute" show. You've fallen for the bait, similar to made in abyss.

Professor00

There’s a follow -up movie and a 3 season side-series as well. The OG series is great!

wavyesper

Arkan Matlub

And it's always shit like; "Never watched this before, but my theory is [detailed summary of the entire plot, including elements and twists that no one could possibly have guessed based on info available up until that point.]" or "Make sure to remember this and that thing, it's important to the plot!", "You missed this important plot point!" about shit the viewer is not SUPPOSED to know is important yet, from idiots who somehow do not understand that's also spoilers...

Senpai Seviin

I have never seen anyone react to this and its my favorite anime ever. I thought i was satisfied when i saw the Fate series with ya'll

Drake Chuckle

This is going to be a fun reaction overall. Looking forward to the rest.
