You guys, I almost forgot about this gem. A Patreon member asked if I had a video showing the male pelvic floor muscles in action on a real model. I was sure I’d posted it before—but turns out I hadn’t. So I dug through my files and found it!

In this video, our live model demonstrates three key pelvic floor positions: contraction, relaxation, and a lengthened or “bear down” position. It’s a helpful visual if you’re trying to get a better sense of what these movements look like on a real person.

Thanks so much! Extremely helpful. Also, thanks to whoever this model is for volunteering for these videos.

Bill

Should the "pushing" part be included in your pelvic floor exercises? Or just the squeezing?

Dr. Susie Gronski - Doctor of Physical Therapy

Depends on the goals and person's examination findings. If their pelvic floor muscles are reflexively contracting with bear down cues (i.e, with pooping), we would work on coordination and relaxation in that situation.

Hi and thanks for this demo. I tried doing it and there's barley any movement my testical and penis barley moves how do I do that?

Carlos

When I do this I don't get any movement of the testicles and only slight movement of the penis. What does this mean?

Dr. Susie Gronski - Doctor of Physical Therapy

It may mean not mean anything or it may indicate an isolation, coordination or strength issue 🤷‍♀️ Our model had a more reactive scrotal lift, but that that does not equate to direct 1:1 pelvic floor strength or function. The way to truly assess pelvic floor muscle strength and function is with an internal pelvic floor muscle exam. Real-time ultrasound can show you muscle function and coordination but no way of telling tone or strength.

Dr. Susie Gronski - Doctor of Physical Therapy

By building pelvic floor muscle awareness, strength and coordination. The scrotal lift was more exaggerated on our model in this video that I typically see in my office. The amount of scrotal lift or movement is not a direct indicator of pelvic floor muscle, strength, function, or tone.

Bill

What about just for preventative/strengthening?

oh ok thank you for clarifying and for your reply

John

Wow. I can’t even get it to budge despite flexing. Idk how his retract up so high. Looks like nothing is going on when I do it 😂

Steve

Dr., you look like you're made up for a night out, not for filming a clinical video. very nice! lol
