Hey friends, welcome back to our Ask Dr. Susie G Q&A series. Today’s question digs into a cluster of popular treatments you’ve probably seen all over the internet: PRP injections, Botox to the penis or scrotum, and low-intensity shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction.

In the video, I break down what each treatment is intended to do, what the research says (and doesn’t say), and why many of these approaches are still considered experimental by major urology organizations (and insurance companies). I also talk about where they might play a role, where they fall short, and the not so "sexy" treatments that tend to be more beneficial for erectile function.

Give it a watch and let me know if you have any follow-up questions about these treatments, drop them in the comments.

My 2-cents worth on PRP: I had mild to moderate ED before my prostatectomy and did two rounds of the P-shot (PRP), 13 weeks apart as recommended. The 1st treatment (June 2018) coupled with daily use of a penis pump, seemed to help quite a bit- it definitely helped with size as I gained about 3/4” in length & almost the same in girth, and I was able to achieve & maintain a good erection without Viagra. This improved my confidence quite a bit, as you might imagine. Did the 2nd round in mid-September of the same year, and the results actually seemed to undo the first! No erections without Viagra, and size gains went away. Did exactly the same protocols. Very disappointing. Spent about $3500 for about 2 months worth of having a slightly bigger, somewhat more functional dick. Not really worth it. Since the prostatectomy (June 2020), the ED is severe, and Trimix is necessary for any semblance of a hard-on.

Hi Dr Susie - just a random question on all of these videos for a peak behind the curtain. You produce a ton of facts very quickly when filming the videos. Are you reading from a prepared script, just that knowledgeable after your research on the topic, or some combination? :)

Dr. Susie Gronski - Doctor of Physical Therapy

Yep, it's a combination of both script and saved brain knowledge. A script helps me stay on track with the main points and it reduces the need for retakes (most of the time 😉).
