In this live demo, I walk you through the nerve anatomy that supplies the penis and how it can contribute to penile pain. You’ll see how I approach soft tissue mobilization and techniques to work with the dorsal nerve of the penis. If you’re dealing with penis pain, be sure to check out my other video as well.

This was originally recorded for health professionals, so the language is a bit more technical. If you like to nerd out on this kind of detail, you’re in the right place.

We also connect the dots between the key nerves involved and how I think about them clinically when working with penile pain.

Thank you Dr Susie! I always learn so much from these videos.

To get the best effect, how long should this be done? And how often? I know you mentioned teaching the patient to do it daily on their own. I’m getting treatment down into my right glute , that major nerve ( forgot what it’s called) and they break out the tennis ball and have me doing it on my own’ … doesn’t have the same effect.

This helped alot still cant quite get the skin rolling right, but it was a major help

When I first put the video on, I thought my comment would be about not having this one particular pain, but it’s interesting because a lot of the techniques you do, I do (self mobilizing) in the evening without even realizing the stretching and what not has a name. I’d even chalk it up to just overall wellness and mindfulness about that first few minutes before bed. It’s one of the best times of the day cause you’re in your room and you can just let everything hang out.

Thanks Dr Susie

Great demo, doc. The part where you press down on the pubic symphysis and pull downward on the penis was interesting. Isn't that the suspensory ligament right there? And isn't that kind of like a reverse penis pull stretch? Just curious what you think. Thanks

Cory

The area at 5:01 in the video gives me intermittent pain and an irritated sensation only after ejaculation/orgasm for a few days 3 to 4 usually. Is there any topical lidocaine or other analgesics that can be applied to this area? Or is PT stretching and myofacial manipulation better for relief overall? Thank you so much for sharing this demonstration with us!

A little outside my paramedic scope of practice, but very informative. Thank you.

While we don’t have any objective information that tells us the exact length of time or frequency that’s most optimal, my advice is to perform this to your desired length of time or tissue tolerance, where it doesn’t result in a flare-up and touch feels good. The idea here is to support and promote “feel good” awareness to the genitals that may otherwise be hurting. I would suggest at least a minute or so, so the sensory input has time to modulate the output. Frequency-wise, daily can be helpful to build a new pattern of safety and efficacy. Of course, adjust based on your tolerance and current tissue capacity.

I'm glad you shared your experience with us, Alan. You're right--this doesn't just have to be a practice for penile pain, it is universal 🙂. It can be used for general or pleasurable touch practices too.

Ouch No Never downward with a firm, rigid erection. Thanks Dr. G.

Anything above the perineum is easy for me to get to. Also, the underside of the penis. Anything at the perineum and below was difficult for me to reach. Do you have a video of the patient performing these tasks? That web helpful. Thank you Dr. Susie.

Thank you so much.

Ouch! on doing that with a firm, rigid erection. I don't think that is possible is it? And now that I've had two PFPT why have they never worked the areas you show in this video or maybe I was just in to much pain at the time. This last PFPT only did an exam/evaluation in that area and stuck to scar tissue work only, since my heart issue stopped it, I go back the end of this month. Don't know what she can do but scheduled to see what options I have at this point with the lack of circulation in my lower extremities.

You can tell his nuts are extra sensitive. This position makes a man most vulnerable... he'd be squeaking, moaning and at your mercy from a classic Dr. Susie smack to those jingleballs. Good thing for him you don't smack bare balls, Dr. Susie :)
