It’s time for another Ask Dr. Susie G a Question video series.

This month, I’m answering three of your questions about exams for erectile dysfunction (ED), Trimix injections, ED medication tolerance, and sexual health recovery after prostate cancer treatment.

Specifically I cover:

🍆 How erectile dysfunction is evaluated — including medical and sexual history, cardiovascular risk factors, hormone testing, medications, genital examination, and when a penile Doppler ultrasound might be useful.

💉 Trimix and intracavernosal injections — can you build up a tolerance with regular use? Plus, injection frequency, safety, fibrosis, priapism, and reasons injections may become less effective over time.

💊 Finasteride, tamsulosin, TRT, and erectile dysfunction — including how medications, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), pelvic radiation, vascular changes, and prostate cancer treatment can overlap and affect erections and sexual function.

We also talk about penile rehabilitation after prostate cancer, including PDE5 inhibitors like Cialis/tadalafil and Viagra/sildenafil, vacuum erection devices (VEDs), injections, penile prosthesis, and why sexual recovery often benefits from a multimodal approach.

I can not stress this enough do not take Finastride, I have lost the ability to feel orgasm or have any sexual pleasure from taking Finastride only 2 1/2 months. I have had these side effects for 20 years

I'm really sorry you're experiencing the negative side effects of Finasteride, Bob 😔 Some of my urology colleagues have said they steer clear of this medication because of its known side effects.
