Transphobes in the UK have successfully turned blatant dumbfuck terfery into a ‘left-wing’ issue. Obviously all right wing parties are anti, but through the faux-feminism side of things they have successfully wedged transphobic beliefs into the left quite deeply. The labour prime minister who’s going to win the next election is very centrist and clearly extremely ignorant on the subject, so is likely going to pander to bipartisan transphobes over an increasingly demonised and misrepresented trans and queer community. You may notice that prominent British terfs are the most smug, self-congratulatory liberals you could ever find who are constantly (sorry Theda) gooning over their own moral superiority (JKR and her ilk). It’s bc of British superiority mindset: We think that every other country in which feminism is trans accepting is wrong, and that true, British feminism is correct because…..of course it’s right, we’re British!! Those foreign morons couldn’t possibly be as intelligent and forward thinking as us! When in actuality the ‘feminism’ they’re peddling is the most putrid white feminism you could ever encounter and they will not hesitate to sell themselves to right wing organisations and beliefs in order to hurt trans. No mainstream newspapers or media orgs - left or right - are favourable to trans people in this shitheap. As for the puberty blockers thing: there is now a blanket ban from the NHS of prescribing puberty blockers to minors because of a government report (the Cass report) on the NHS gender clinics. Long story short the conclusion of the report was that the gender clinics were poorly run, were pushing an agenda, transing kids against their will, and that PBs are ‘experimental and dangerous’. And of course that all trans people are autistic and/or victims of sexual abuse or porn addiction. (Not joking, I literally read that written in a broadsheet newspaper) Obviously the media gobbled this narrative despite the fact that the clinics were shittily run because the NHS is crumbling and extremely underfunded, and the gender clinics were not actually equipped by the NHS to deal with the scope of things they were expected to, including an increase in applications bc of trans becoming a more widely understood thing in the youth. The result of this is the ban on PB and complete uproar about transing kids, and mutilating their bodies (surgeries are literally only allowed for 18+ so this was just a lie). The gender clinics are now closed or being wound down and no alternatives were suggested by the report. If anything, extremely vague and euphemistic “holistic” routes for gender questioning people were suggested for “youth” up to the age of 24! And they will obviously just be: no PBs even w parental and doctor consent, interrogation for years about whether you’re telling the truth and your mental state, and hostile dissuasion from transitioning at every turn. So even though a ‘left wing’ gov is coming in there is enough public vitriol and middle class lefty transphobia that they are likely to be hostile to trans people and restrict access to healthcare even further, all while wearing rainbow pins. Yay! Sos for the long comment It’s fun as FUCK over here gals, come on over!

The puberty blockers thing is super fucked. I'm not an expert on the topic, I'm just some faggot on TERF Island, but this is my understanding. There was a single gender identity clinic for the whole country of England, called GIDS - "Gender Identity Service" I think (they also took patients from Wales). Anyway, before all this woke, they had a reasonable number of patients and were able to treat young people with gender dysphoria. Over the past 10-15 years, the number of patients looking to transition has skyrocketed and the waiting list was literally years to even get even a first consultation. The clinic was completely unfit for purpose because it just didn't have the staff or resources to handle patients for the whole country. - They had a health inspection 4 or 5 years ago, and were rated completely inadequate to support their patients (unsurprisingly). Around the same time, a report was commissioned into the state of trans healthcare in the UK by a Dr. Hilary Cass (it's always Hilary's fault, isn't it?). That full report came out a month or two ago, but she released an interim report back in 2022. - The interim report said the single clinic model was unfit for purpose, and needed to move to a model with multiple regional clinics (sounds good, right?). There was a deadline of Spring 2023 to close the single GIDS clinic, and open up regional gender dysphoria clinics around the country. That deadline is missed, and a new deadline of Spring 2024 is added. - My recollection is that the creation of the new service model became factional, with some of the leadership team being pro puberty blockers, and others in favour of greatly expanding the mental health team to treat any underlying issues which may be causing the young person to feel dysphoric in the first place). I missed it in the news, but it looks like the first 2 (of hopefully 8) regional clinics opened this year. - Anyway, the Cass Report came out in April too. I'm not from an academic or research background, so cannot comment at all on the quality of the research. However, it led immediately to the public health service in England banning prescription of puberty blockers (the research said that there's not sufficient evidence that puberty blockers are safe and effective, and could be causing harm). - Scotland briefly held firm in continuing to allow puberty blockers, but then that blew up. The majority party (SNP) have a big trans culture war within the party, and when they dropped climate commitments in April, their coalition government with the Green Party collapsed, they ran a leadership election, and in the meantime the clinic is Glasgow also paused prescribing puberty blockers. - That last final hurrah you mentioned was that private clinics are now also banned from prescribing puberty blockers as parliament ends and we go into an election on...you guessed it...the 4th of July
