i have not yet entered into Tori Consciousness but it’s pleasing to listen to people talk in depth about something insane they are passionate about. I like “insincerity” in music/art (in a way that I think is maybe not in line with Theda/Macy’s aesthetic preferences?) e.g. I love pastiche and meta bullshit and persona and pretentiousness and irony/distance. but I can’t stand artists performing sincerity when they are, at core, insincere which is very prevalent now with Gaga, Lana del Rey, Taylor Swift (TS started sincere because she was literally a child but then embraced teen narcissist as her entire brand because it resonates so well and makes her money.) capitalism has recuperated the eccentric independent singer/songwriter lady who can actually play music & say something into girlboss pop divas banking on “relatability” (in a bad way) and avoids any emotional complexity.

But K-pop and other idol industries never claim sincerity (or maybe authenticity is what I mean?) to me; I am fine with the open artifice of an industrial idol production system.
