Right where I left you!

This was such a fun time and I simply can't wait to dive into the next two movies. Also, yes, I did think I was really smart and figured out a major plot twist on my own when in reality.. I just missed a part of the movie where they essentially told me that that was what was going on. But hey! nobody is perfect! lol

@9:50 Sword party tricks tend to lead into Van Gogh impersonations!

Probably my all time favourite adventure movie. It's wild that this movie came from a ride at Disney. Also there were many other actors who almost played Jack Sparrow: Michael Keaton, Christopher Walken, Hugh Jackman, Robert DeNiro, Matthew McConaughey. I can't imagine anyone but Johnny.

It's such a nice detail that when Elizabeth is eating with Barbossa he is practically getting off on watching her eat. He keeps handing her his favorite things like wine and apples just so he can watch her enjoy them because he can't. It's a subtle way of showing just how desperate he is for the most basic of pleasures. Also, feel free to pause shows and movies more if you need to. You give me anxiety when it's in the middle of a significant scene or important dialogue and you start looking up something on your phone 😂

"Its been a while since he has touched a...." thinks to come up with the best word... "knob" *chuckles to herself* xDD

This movie defined my teen years- I was OBSESSED when it first came out. In retrospect it was definitely my bi awakening.

I was thinking in my head "wow he's kinda turned on by her eating" but I don't think I said it out loud but now it makes sense why he was! Also I apologize or giving you anxiety lol

GINA

wait... it CAME from a ride at disney?! Please tell me more about this It's so hard to imagine anyone else playing Jack Sparrow. Don't get me wrong, all wonderful actors but Johnny Depp brought him to life in a way I can't picture anyone else doing

According to google, the ride was made in 1967 in Disneyland and was the last ride overseen by Walt Disney before his death. The creators based the ride on folklore, legends, and novels. The ride would take you on a journey down a bayou and then it would show a big pirate ship attacking a city with the final reveal being that the ship was crewed by skeletons. The movies made in the 2000s were based entirely on that. Two other things that the movies took directly from the ride apparently were the jailed pirates trying to get the attention of a dog with the keys and the song Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me) which was created for the ride in 1967

More crazy outfit! Heck yea! I can't wait. I did not care about the pirates movies when they came out, but they've grown on me. I can't wait for the next ones!

Elizabeth giving Will's last name as her own wasn't for romantic reasons, sadly. Initially it was given because of classism. If you'll recall when the pirates came into the mansion the maid tells her that they'll kidnap her because she's the governor's daughter, not realizing that they're really there because of the medallion.

Meant to type my thoughts last week when I watched it, but oh well. I was obsessed with this trilogy as a kid, and rewatching this one now, it really is a fantastic movie. As I was watching, I found myself thinking “There isn’t a single thing I can criticize about this movie”. The action, the MUSIC, the practical effects and stunts are just so good. The only possible critiques would be historical inaccuracy—but it’s a fantasy adventure film so i feel like it gets a pass—and the CGI. It isn’t flawless, but they weren’t overly reliant on it, and they used it cleverly enough to make it work about as well as anyone could have. I love the characters too. Barbossa might be my favorite in this movie, he’s SUCH a pirate’s pirate. Like, textbook definition of a pirate. He’s so hammy and over the top with his delivery, it’s the best. And Jack Sparrow demeanor was supposedly inspired by Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, Depp playing Jack as a sort of “rock star” pirate. Can’t wait for the next ones, imo the CGI in Pirates 2 doesn’t *just* hold up, it’s actually STILL better than most modern movies, and it’s almost 20 years old.

So apparently I found the right channel. Lol.

I subscribed to the Patreon recently, so I’m just now watching this, but in terms of watching the movies, I personally liked the fourth one (On Stranger Tides). I probably just liked it cuz it has Sam Claflin in it and pretty mermaids, but I also thought the lore was interesting. The most recent (Dead Men Tell No Tales) I didn’t enjoy as much because I felt like all the Jack gags were forced. You can’t go wrong with watching only the main trilogy, but the later movies add some extra flavor, though they mainly focus on Jack instead of the gang (Jack, Will and Elizabeth).
