I wouldn't be surprised if I were to cry...again

I imagine the creator has discussed it at some point because it seems pretty clear this show is about Japanese identity and navigating Japanese cultural and national pride. The Eldians being a dominant global force that lost all of their conquered land and were forced to rebuild on their island after a devastating defeat matches Japan post WW2. It puts a nice framing to the theme of what loving your culture and people looks like despite their history of terrible deeds. It's a great, thought provoking show.

I think I know why Sasha's death hits so much harder than you think it will. Out of all of the main characters, she's the only one who never "really" changed. She matured, sure, and she had to grow up in the same cruel world they all did, sure, but her character symbolized the innocence from their youths, from the first 1 or 2 seasons. So once she died, so, too, did the innocence of the show.

If i were to recommend any other anime to you, it would be vinland saga. It has a lot of similar vibes to aot, i highly recommend it.

GINA

ooh okay! Maybe I'll check that one out on my own!

GINA

I agree with this a lot actually and it hurt me even more. Even until the end she was still very much the same Sasha we had first met

And in the end the true Rumbling was this show stomping on our hearts.

Gina, if you wanna watch an anime that'll make you cry but in a feel-good kinda way, The Ranking of Kings is a solid 1-season* anime that is plucky, heartfelt and emotionally surprising at times. (No need to watch it on the channel—watch it in your own private time. Although I'm sure "Gina getting a bad case of the teary-eyed warm fuzzies" is good reaction content, so that would entirely be up to you.) *technically there is a 2nd season, but it plays out more like a spin-off with little vignettes that are still by-and-large upbeat and tender but chronologically disjointed and terribly extraneous; I never finished it, so I can't speak on whether it's worth watching start-to-finish, but it's far from bad; it's just sort of aimless, like Lucky Star Full disclaimer: if The Ranking of Kings doesn't hit you in the feels or make you cry, I guess that just makes me a lot mushier on the inside than you. 😶‍🌫️

“It’s so short!!” Ummm yeah it’s Levi??? Also those last few edits I’m glad you got in there i was really hoping you would. They hurt so good. I will never let people forgot my girl Sasha. Her death reminds me of Loris’s from arcane, no grandiose speech, no last war cry, no last words of comfort to her friends, just another casualty of war. Really drives the narrative of the story and how awfully empty war is.

I loved the format of this video. I'd be stoked to see more long-form retrospectives when you finish a show

SerolineArt

I’m all for watching the OVA episodes with you!! Hahah I’m not ready for AOT to be over😫

Steffan B

you should watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood next - 64 eps and 4 OVAs

Hey, I’ve been trying to comment this on your AoT vids but it never seems to reach you, but their is another scene that you didn’t see from the show at the very end. It’s only in the “the last attack” movie version. Which is on crunchy roll. You watched the special versions, and that doesn’t contain the additional scene. Maybe you could react at some point. If you want, or not, no matter, but it is a scene that you have missed.

Noah Glenn

It’s also a great react show, but if you wanna watch it on your own time i understand!

Isnt the AOT foreshadowing a meme?

I think the confusion about the time aspect of the show is because of a bootstrap paradox.

Erwin dying left a power vacuum that was filled by the Jeagerists. Levi made the wrong choice and Ill die on that hill

Arelzian

Levi is the only survivor from the pre Eren/Mikasa/Armin military right? Hange was the last one, legit everyone he knew is dead

Uri

PLEASE WATCH THE KANE PIXELS EDITS ON YOUTUBE!!! He’s the kid who made the back room videos and is about to release a movie with a24. He made a couple of real life aot videos and shows how scary titans would ACTUALLY be.
