I don't know if I made any sense in this so if you have any questions just let me know.

In general though my goal is to give us a chance to have some more variety. I love the superhero movies and possibility of seeing more bald baddies but let's try to spice things up and add some other things, ya know?

Good changes. Hope we will get some variety and maybe not Hollywood movies all the time. Maybe sometime you could do themed polls. Like "give me a romance movie or let's explore a certain country."

Nuryk

Yeah, a bit more variaty i would love too

Thessair

Makes perfect sense! It will be nice to potentially see some underdogs make the watch list. When you get to Star Wars, I would recommend getting the 4k77/4k80/4k83 versions or Harmy's Despecialized Editions. The additions made for the Special Editions and subsequent changes really date the OT way more than the original SFX did. No doubt someone could provide you with copies if you're interested. *wink wink*

Would you ever consider checking out some shows? The Ted show was unexpectedly one of the funniest shows of the past few years. I guess its technically a franchise since there are also 2 movies but tbh the show is so much better than the those movies, I wouldn't even recommend the them in my opinion.

BoringGuy

I don’t know if you can pin posts like you can on TikTok instagram etc, but if you can maybe make a list of all the ones you’re aware of, or plan to do. And every few months updated it if something comes up. That way you don’t have to constantly remind everyone and we can see what not to ask for. Just a thought. And just for clarification are you meaning just franchises or also extremely popular movies?

Watyusei

A very good decision i think. It was a little annoying that we were already getting marvel stuff without polls and then people voted for... even more marvel lol.

Toby Young

Queens gambit is gonna be lovely

Krieger

I fully agree with more variety- reactors often have their schedules dominated by marvel, and are never able to get around to more unique films. I think just take all the suggestions, and remove the stuff you already know will be a big hero franchise since that is coming anyway

Ragnar Miersch

Oh, the trying trials and turbulations of a reactor. Glad I don't have your problems in life so I can just sit back and enjoy whatever wonderful, entertaining content you and your fellow reactors send my way. This post gives me shivers of joy because it means my "Casablanca" dreams are that much closer to reality. Two middle fingers to you as well, dear Miss Gina. 👌🙌😺

Eric

Are videos of your dog considered a franchise?

GINA

We were being drowned in marvel lol

GINA

This is a good idea! I will look into it and maybe even send something out so people can throw out franchises and such so I know everything there is to choose from. Just franchises really. I think we should try for the polls to be standalone movies perhaps? And anything else that is part of a series, etc. I will either sprinkle in or we tackle once marvel is done. I think this will be a bit of trial and error until we figure out what really works best. But like the Avatar movies, though it’s not as expansive as Marvel, it’s multiple movies that all thread together. Whereas I believe knives out is multiple but I think each is its own storyline? (I could be wrong)

GINA

This is something I’m open to when we run polls for shows! As long as it’s something that could be watched without seeing the movies beforehand, it can be thrown into the poll for when we vote on our shows!

GINA

Themed polls would be fun! And could help guarantee we aren’t always doing the same type of movie every month

anotida chitando

I think this is a great decision. You're already watching marvel so let's diversify

OrangeMg

Before moving into other polls, it would be good to continue with the third film that won the previous poll, Godzilla Minus One (it sounds like a franchise, but it's an independent film and very good). Sorry that sounds insistent or pushy.

T-Rav

Thank you for doing this! I think the genre specific polls would be a great idea. 🙏

Yes, do the thing you said about in your photoplay

Leenis

Just throwing stuff out there to see if anyone agrees. I know this is not the place for the poll. This is more to gauge how the members feel. Anime: Frieren or Death Note. Attack on Titan doesn't feel different enough to me, but it's fantastic. Queens gambit will be awesome! I am looking forward to it. Shows: Breaking Bad, Community, Severance, Arrested Development Movies: John Wick, Life of Brian, The Big Lebowski, Monty Python the Meaning of Life, Idiocracy, Mad Max: Fury Road. I'm curious what other members are hoping ends up on polls.

Michael St. George

I really dig this choice, and I agree it will help separate the Heats and the Little Womens from the Supermans and the Star Treks. Knives Out is tricky, because I don't think it was ever meant to be a franchise—I'm pretty sure each of the sequels were not planned and were nearly as spontaneous as the first film. (They're not exactly James Cameron's Avatar films.) Moreover, you could theoretically watch them in any order as there's no chronological continuity between them. But I'd be content to see them set aside as "a franchise", if that is how most everyone in the group views them. A few other films in the same vein I'd think you would greatly enjoy are Kenneth Branagh's Hercule Poirot films (Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, A Haunting in Venice), which likewise carry no chronological continuity between them and have each been afaik spontaneous adaptations of Agatha Christie's works, but I'd be content to see them be categorized as franchise films, if that were ‘the will of the people’.

Michael St. George

Is "turbulations" a typo or a portmanteau (possibly as part of an ongoing inside joke between you and Gina [I wouldn't pretend to know]) of "turbulent" and "tribulations"?

Ragnar Miersch

Nothing "inside" I can assure you, simply exercising a touch of artistic license. For the record, I am familiar with the common phraseology. Thanks for the reply, Mr. St. George. It's nice to know that someone else takes the time to read the comments.

Phalanx

By all means mix it up and stack the polls with stuff that you're interested in and give yourself a break from super hero stuff. This should be a fun experience for you, too. Also, other people have probably already mentioned it, but since you said you plan to watch the X-Men franchise, you may want to put it (and the other Fox Marvel movies) ahead of some of the more recent MCU movies (like, say, you know, just entiiiirely randomly here... the next Doctor Strange movie). For reasons that will become clear at a later date. Also, the X-Men '97 animated show was fantastic and worth putting on your list. The second season comes out later this year.

Jeremy

Word. Re-subbed to show support. Looking forward to Queen's Gambit.

T-Rav

I think the first season of True Detective would be a good, short series show. Longer? It’s an old man choice but Lonesome Dove! It’s a great story with great characters, based on a book, and pretty unique. I haven’t seen many reactors have that one. As for movie series, The Matrix movies and the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness movies. Stand alone movies: The Thing (1982), Robocop (1986), Pulp Fiction, and Muppet Treasure Island. 😎

Leenis

My brother has been trying to get me to watch True Detective. I guess I will start since all your other recommendations are great. I haven't thought about Lonesome Doves for a long time. My mom, who recently passed from cancer, loved Lonesome Dove, Anne of Green Gables, and The Thornbirds, and we used to watch those. Wow, blast from the past!

DrakeNoAubrey

I will say if you want to watch the spider-man stuff and X-men stuff you should hold the MCU movies until you watch them, it will make sense later but i'll suggest stopping after phase 3, or not its how you do it.

DrakeNoAubrey

I think if you want maybe try to do polls based off genres based on what you feeling like watching

Russell Kellner

Fairly new here, I've loved everything so far. I haven't watched the Knives Out reaction yet but if you enjoyed it you should definitely check out The Nice Guys

Courtesy Lick

I think my profile pic fully captures how I feel about this announcement.

Michael St. George

I believe she has seen that before; sometimes people suggest movies for the poll, which Gina'll put on there with an asterisk next to it, which indicates she's seen it before, and iirc Nice Guys was one of those.

Erik Davison

I'm that guy who added spiderman 2002 to the poll lolol sorry. Thank you for the itnervention! I have a letterboxd list that is specifically non franchise films! Maybe you could consider sharing or starting a letterboxed account so we can see what films you've already seen so we dont waste our suggestion on it!

Isaac

Personally, I would rather you watch a variety of good movies that you're excited to watch. The problem with the poll is that the more niche movies are never going to win. That's why I don't vote in the poll; even if there's a movie I would want you to react to, it's just never going to beat the big blockbusters. It would be cool if we could vote on a pool of movies and either you select the one you're interested in or select randomly. That way we're not always watching the same genres.

Mike Jones

Damn you have very long middle fingers.
