This is one of my favorite episodes, its the turning point where it shows Naruto when he stops being the goofy knucklehead main character and starts being wiser and more mature

Peak. Dad picked up on the detail of Naruto's arrival time. The story telling is truly peak. Had Naruto been there "in the nick of time" as he said before, and still beaten pain, do you guys think he would have forgiven Pain or did everything happen EXACTLY as it needed to because Naruto is the child of prophecy?

Scott Schilling

Your interviewing/watch assisting is so good, like the questions you ask heighten his experience without spoiling anything

Jonah Battaglia

I can’t wait to see how he reacts when he realizes his absolute favorite character (Danzo) is involved in turning Nagato into Pain

Adarsh Iyer

I'd just like to explicate the precise point that Pain isn't fighting out of revenge against what happened to him per se, but out of a cynicism against the world born from his tragic past. He's fighting to end revenge, i.e., the cycle of hate. But really, he is still secretly exacting revenge, but not against the leaf, but against this fallen world, which is a good way to view cynicism as such: Hatred for humanity due to humanity's fallen nature. So Pain believes that he operates impartial to his tragedy, working to a clear solution to our fallen nature (which is a truth; we are fallen), which he believes makes him enlightened (A similar view can also be said of Obito later). But of course, that one comment Tsunade made about the leaf having had its own share of pain was enough to tip him over the edge and annihilate the village, because even Nagato isn't truly above his own experiences. Still, the deeply-rooted cynicism about human nature and society, and his arguments against Naruto that, by opposing Pain, one only acts out of revenge himself and furthers the injustice that he claims to fight, are not easily dismissed. Cynicism takes root in the world because of very real pain, very real experiences, and simply ignoring that pain isn't a solution. Kishimoto himself said that he really struggled a lot to write this arc because he felt that both Naruto and Nagato had valid points, and he struggled to portray Naruto as the ideological victor while simultaneously acknowledging and giving due consideration to the painful reality that Nagato experienced, not simply dismissing it naively in order to bring the plot to heroic conclusion. I'd really like to get your Dad's thoughts on the above; I think we'd like to hear his reaction. Absolutely loving the content, as always!

Jusy curious but are you showing him all the episodes or are you skipping the filler? There are some really good filler arcs.

Javier Orta

Yes! Completely agree with ya.

Yaseen Reza

I actually really love how this arc resolved and it really shows how Naruto matures. Screw everyone who memes talk no jutsu haha

I’ve always found it comical how tendo pain takes incredible amounts of damage to the face from Kurama but dies to a singular base rasengan

This series has some great villains, and the rest of the Akatsuki are all great in their own ways, but ones like Pain really stand out.

Terry Askren

He was fighting for temporary peace he new he could never get ride of hate or pain

Caro

Thanks again for another lovely watch session. This is such a pinnacle of the series. I'm glad you get to share it with your Dad!!

Rocky Horror

What are your dad’s thoughts on how this will change Naruto’s understanding of Sasuke?

@fer06_zzz

In fact, I mentioned it during Pain's conversation with Naruto, and I agree with you. Even so, I would also like to know Dad's opinion from his perspective. 🫰🏻

Giovani D'Haiti
