Hey everyone,

I wanted to make a proper post explaining why things have been a little quiet lately.

First, some good things.

At the start of February, Adam came to visit, and we got to spend some time hanging out in person. It was honestly really nice just getting to exist in the same space for a bit and show him more of my life over here. We went around, explored, and of course, I made sure he tried a bunch of British foods. Most importantly, though, he had his first-ever Indian meal, which felt like a very important cultural milestone. It was a really fun visit, and I’m glad we got that time together.

Unfortunately, February wasn’t just that.

The month was also pretty difficult on a personal level. It’s not really a secret that for a long time, I’ve struggled with the lack of exposure my projects get. I put a lot of time, energy, and care into everything I make, and lately it’s been hard not to notice that engagement across platforms has been getting quieter. Social media likes and comments are down, and even in Discord, the conversation is often carried by the same regular people.

And I want to be very clear about something here. That is not shade toward those people. The people who do comment, talk, and show up consistently mean the world to me. I’m genuinely grateful for you and your support.

But at the same time, I do want the community to grow. I want new people discovering the projects, joining conversations, sharing excitement, and becoming part of this little creative space we’ve built. When that growth doesn’t seem to happen, it can start to feel like things are standing still.

Which leads into the harder part of this post.

Because of the lack of growth, the quiet posts, and the general feeling that the work wasn’t reaching people, I ended up spiralling a bit mentally during February. I hit a point where I was seriously considering stepping away from all of this completely. It felt like the one creative space I was most proud of building just… wasn’t worth people’s time or attention.

And when your brain gets into that space, it starts asking really unpleasant questions.Like maybe the work itself just isn’t that good.

Around the same time, I also had a conversation with someone about AI in creative spaces. They mentioned that people might assume I use AI to write stories or scripts.

I want to address that directly.

I do not use AI to write my stories, scripts, or narrative work.

The only place AI has ever been used in my projects is during the process of making music for things like VYRE or LEO. And even in those cases, I’m still doing a lot of the groundwork myself. I write the lyrics, record the melody vocals, and outline how the instrumental structure of the song should feel. The AI tools are only used to help assemble those pieces into a finished track because I’m not a professional audio engineer.

And even then, those songs are just something fun I like experimenting with. They aren’t monetized. They’re just a bit of creative whimsy.

But hearing that comment did get into my head. It makes me wonder whether people out there really do assume the writing is AI-generated. And if that’s the case… it’s honestly quite upsetting, because it would mean the thing I care most about creatively is being mistaken for something automated and stripped of all humanity.

When you combine all of that together, February ended up being a really rough month mentally.

But the important part is this.

I’m still here.

After sitting with everything for a while, I decided that instead of quietly giving up, I wanted to do the exact opposite. I wanted to push harder. I wanted to challenge myself creatively and prove to myself that the work I make has value.

Which is why I’ve spent the past few months learning Unreal Engine and building something new.

Instead of just imagining what these worlds could look like, I’ve started experimenting with what it would take to bring them to life as a fully realised narrative game.

And that’s what I’m really excited to show you all what's next.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around, supported the work, and believed in these projects even when things have been quiet. It genuinely means more than you probably realise.

I certainly cant speak for everyone but I personally began to fall off a lot due to the lack of focus. There have been so many different projects going on simultaneously and it seemed like there was always new things being started while still waiting on pre existing things to be updated. It grew a little frustrating. Its more of a personal preference and im sure there are others who love all the different options, I just started to get overwhelmed and anxious for certain updates that seemed to be on the backburner. Im glad you've found a second wind so to speak and hope you get the community you deserve and are happy with all you create.

You should focus on finishing the games before starting anything new or start all over again! It's definitely annoying if you can't keep your goal and always start something new. I have to say that I haven't heard anything about the games in a long time, and I'm not excited to continue supporting you, sorry.

I hear you, and we had a major shift in focus over the last 12 months - with now an additional shift. New Hope will be the only VN project in production until it's completion. We will still share monthly art sets, and the occasional shorty, but stories will only be worked on during periods of time game production isn't possible.

I can understand why the AI comment got to you. As writers we put our heart and soul into what we create. People only see the finished product, they don't see the hours of work, the days and weeks of thinking and planning and adapting to get it to where you're happy. For people to think you just shove some prompt into AI and let it do the work for you is pretty insulting. I don't have the image making capabilities that you do but I take pride in the written word and when people don't at least respect that, whether they like it or not, it is disheartening.

Apollo Studios

The focus is on finishing New Hope. That is now the only VN in production and it will remain so until it's completion.

I am here for it and for you! Thank you for all your hard work, both in the past and what you continue to do! I know it can be hard to ignore the haters, but your work has really affected me in such a positive way! I relate so much to all of the characters in different ways, wanting to be able to be true but afraid of the consequences that will happen if people knew my secret. So much that felt at stake. It felt like my whole world would collapse if the truth ever came out. That’s why it took me until I was almost 35 (just over three years ago) to finally come out as gay. In short, keep up the amazing work! The visibility and representation matter much more than you know! 🥰😘🥹

I'm sorry to hear you weren't doing well. I appreciate all the hard work you do and I'm glad you're back.

This is the main reason why I do what I do. And why I started branching out into other stories. They were never meant to take away from the main VNs, but offer a new piece of media for people to enjoy and hopefully connect with. Fully own that may have lost focus along the way. Which is why we're having this reset now. New Hope will be the only VN in production now until it's completion. Thank you for your support and I'm thrilled you finally found the opportunity to come out and be your authentic self. Show yourself all the kindness and love, even when the world doesn't. Xx

The conversation I had was more about speculating whether that is the reason engagement is down. It then just had my brain spiralling after the fact and fed into all the other issues.

Just letting you know that I really like your stories ! I wish there was a way to help you promote it more I will surely recommend the new hope to my friends !

Carter's Stories

Keep strong! Hopefully it's just a short slump that's ending soon! I wish there was a better way to get things out there. Itchio has been my kryptonite and twitter/x is x and since the beginning of the year Bluesky is cracking down slightly too. If only there was like a hub for similar creators or a catalogue for similar games or just something that won't crack down. New Hope and Hollow are big reasons I got into trying to make my own game! Your writing has definitely made a difference within the community, even in ways that might not be noticeable but it definitely is there!

Blayke, please, keep your good work, keep in touch with your beloved ones, try make new friends from time to time, and never, never in your life get anxious about the number of likes or those who follows you, if this is not part of your job and main source of financial income. Sorry for personal advices from an uknown reader of New Hope :-)

That makes sense. I have been thinking about putting some of my work on Kindle and have been advised not to use an AI generated image for the cover since people could then think the whole work is AI and essentially boycott it so I am looking at other options.

I’m not super social and rarely engage, but I’m still here and I look forward to all of your updates. I’m sure there are others who are silent but are interested in what you produce. Your audience is larger than you might think.

I just came across your work a couple of days ago, and I'm loving all of it. Thank you for all your hard work!

Hey Blayke, I'm sorry things have been crappy for you recently. You don't need to worry about the quality of your work, it is amazing! Great story, and great graphics. I love your work, New Hope is the best VN out there and I look forward to each update.

SparklezPride

I absolutely love the VNs you work on. They are definitely some of my favorites out there. While I don't usually engage socially via Discord or even social media posts, I used to watch for updates for the VNs frequently. That being said, it did get to a point where you were working on so many different things at one time that I started to never see updates on the VNs, which is the main thing I'm here for. I eventually did stop looking for updates to them because all I'd ever see is non VN stuff, which really wasn't my cup of tea (not saying it's not good stuff, just not up my alley). Even so, I'm here commenting because I got an email about the new update for New Hope, so I do still get excited about those updates whenever they do come around. I hope things pick up for you soon! 💖

Im really new to Patreon and reading your post feels real. Things we go through and either make it or break underneath it. But I am sooo happy that you havent given into these understandable doubts and worries. You are creative in a inspiring way, granted that i dont know you and your personal life, its just refreshing seeing art that makes me wanna join conversations. It made me create an account here on Patreon to follow, to experience and to find space. :) Might be a little late to coment under this, but I think we all need the friendly smile from someone once in a while, so let me be one of the unknown but happy "Faces" that share a true smile (with this comment). <3 New Hope is a totally unique and incredible project, im happy i followed and can experience more of the art you create!

Thank you for the kind words. I hope you enjoy all the other content there is on offer 😊 Happy to have you here, and happy to chat about anything! We recently had a few different directional changes, but we're moving back to now just creating the things that inspire us and keep us creatively happy. Happy to have you along on the journey!
