Hey everyone,

First things first, I know it’s been a little quiet around here. Don’t worry though, everything’s okay. I’ve just posted an update about what’s been going on, so if you’re curious about the behind-the-scenes stuff, that’s where you can find it.

But with that said, let’s jump straight into why this video exists.

Over the past few months, I’ve been working on something a bit different. I’ve been taking an Unreal Engine course to really understand how the editor works, how games are actually built, and what it would take to bring New Hope into a new format.

So what you’re about to see today is a test map which features various gameplay mechanics. It’s an early look at what New Hope could potentially look like as a fully realised narrative video game.

Before we dive into the showcase though, I want to clarify something important.

The New Hope visual novel is not going anywhere. It will absolutely continue. However, because I’ll be spending time building this test demo, New Hope will be the only visual novel project I’m working on for the time being.

I still want to keep bringing you updates and content, so for the foreseeable future everything I post will be New Hope focused.

With that out of the way…

Let’s take a look at what I’ve been cooking up.

People think you speak too fast? To me you speak quite slowly 😄

MagSeb

Do people really say you speak fast? You spoke a bit slowly to me, which was great for narration. I think the test map looks great. I will miss the other VNs, but I'm glad New Hope is going to continue. The narrative video game looks good. Can you share the Unreal Engine course you have taken?

Apollo Studios

People have said it in the past, so I make an effort to talk more slowly. But now I fear I might just sound drunk...

Apollo Studios

Glad you like the look of it! Of course I can share. Here is the beginners one I started with: https://www.udemy.com/share/10eUiz/ You can then go up to the intermediate level, and check out that website for other course you might need.

This is really cool! Looks like a lot of hard work has been put into this. I like the idea of some action along with the narrative, and think having a cell phone interaction/interface would be kinda cool too. I did enjoy watching you jump up the basement stairs lol

DC Burns

Really cool! Would never have guessed Justin’s house had a basement. Not sure what Justin’s mom does for a living, but it seems to pay well, lol. Will there be a combat element to gameplay later on? Interested in seeing how this develops

Really happy to hear that the New Hope project is continuing - love your work and look forward to each update / release.

Really like that you talked us thru this, but I would like to ask if I may, why is the design of the house so different then the house in the original story, is this going to be the new style or was this just a trial. the addition of the garage and the change of the back garden as well as the addition of the basement, the larger lounge and the larger bathroom for just that is now on the same level as his actual sleeping area. BTW I found the speed of you talking was actual really good. lol you're starting to sound a little more American.
