Hey All! This is a bit longer, but really important, we need your advice and input.

We’ve recently received two copyright strikes on YouTube (from Netflix and an anime company), which means we have to be extra careful with uploads for the next 90 days. This is why our regular movie and TV reaction uploads on YouTube will be paused temporarily.

Here on Patreon, we want to keep things running as normal, even better than before. We’re planning to continue our full-length reactions here and keep the community engaged.

YouTube we are thinking will focus on vlogs, face-cam content, and general discussion-type videos that don’t risk strikes until the strikes fall off from the channel.

One idea we’re exploring is reacting to public domain / older movies on YouTube to stay active while keeping the main content here safe.

I'm (Harry) currently without work, so I’ve been focusing full-time on the channel, which makes this temporary pause extra stressful. But we want to stay positive and lay strong groundwork for when the strikes expire.

We’d love your advice:

Have you followed other creators during temporary pauses due to strikes or restrictions? What worked for keeping you engaged?

What content would keep you excited, involved, and entertained while YouTube uploads are limited?

Any tips for keeping our Patreon community active and thriving during this period?

Once the 90 days strikes are gone the YT content will continue but will have to be chopped waaaaay down to avoid future strikes. All this does though is make Patreon even better to be fair!

Any help, advice, or moral support is very, very welcome ❤️ This post is for all members, both free and paid, because we want everyone’s feedback and ideas.

Well, I know that they are incredibly strict about Music. Sounds funny to say that because I know channels that solely react to Music. Sometimes it seems that YouTube likes to enforce the rules unfairly. I know they don’t even want you singing a copyrighted song for an extended period of time. So eliminating any kind of music would go along way I’d imagine. I also know that any kind of violence that is seeing or depicted as “too realistic” could be seen as a problem. So I would blur anything violent as best as possible as well. Maybe even bleep all the curse words. These are the best suggestions that come to mind. Edit: some companies are also a lot more strict about their copyrighted content than others. Also protecting your channel is number one, so anything that you feel might be a threat to your channel. I just wouldn’t upload. I would use your YouTube to advertise new shows that are being reacted to on your Patreon. That creates more of an incentive for people to become Patreon members as well. Say for instance, you start to react to Yellowstone, but you don’t feel comfortable uploading it seeing as you’ve already gotten two strikes. I would just put all of that information in a post on YouTube and let everyone know “Hey, Yellowstone is available on Patreon for Patreon members. We will try to get the edit up on YouTube as soon as possible. Just have to navigate the murky waters of the copyright sea!” Lol! I’ve definitely seen channels in the past that offered certain TV series on their Patreon that they just weren’t comfortable uploading to their YouTube channel.

Yeah for sure, we will have to censor and cut a lot more going forwards on YouTube. Keep lots of good stuff here on Patreon, but there trim it all out. Have you ever noticed other channels you may follow slow down for a few months in the past? Curious if people will be grumpy about it etc

C Russ

Yeah, the only problem about slowing down is the YouTube algorithm starts to view your channel as a “dead channel“ after like a week. It’s kind of ridiculous actually. So I’m not sure what kind of problems and issues you may have with your growth rates or not. I’ve definitely seen plenty of creators offer entire series reactions and things that never make it to YouTube. They simply just offer those reactions as a part of their Patreon memberships. I would just heavily edit Everything on YouTube. I also think the sound of the actual films and series matters a little less than the visuals. So maybe be heavy on the editing when it comes to the actual movie or series on screen and blur it out except for the major scenes. You both talk and critique the things you watch enough for the videos to qualify as a review or critique. I’m also not sure how fair use and copyright law works in the UK as opposed to America. That could also be slightly different. I’m sure YouTube operates differently under the laws of each country that it functions in.

MORE Fat Electrician... LOL Just kidding. Mostly. LOL I don't know much about YouTube copyright. Other than to say that yea, there is SO much difference between how they treat different channels. So I would say concentrate on reactions that you can post that don't take a lot of editing and then give yourself some extra editing on what you post. I will say, unfortunately, for me at least, I put reaction videos that are drastically shorter than what most other channels post for the same movie on the back burner. Unless I know the channel and like what they do. So you should keep in mind that if you edit down to far that there are people out there that are not going to watch your videos just because it looks more severely edited than other channels. Kind of a catch 22 I know!

Hey Harry i hope you and Lauren are doing fine. I have some advice with this, i follow some other content channels and have received similar if not close strikes and what i can gather is mute the music, talk over the music while it's playing. And as for the blood, edit the video as black and white or cover it with something. I hope this helps, and recover the 90 days with ease.

Good pointers, yeah I think we need to get more strict with some of our YT editinf, I guess that just makes the Patreon even more appealing if we have more available here. Thanks Francisco

Haha fat electrician reactions only! If we kept the YouTube videos nice n long but cut away a bit more and had longer bits just of us would that be something you would normally have disliked Sterling?

Sterling LaLoge

No that is not something that would have been a problem for me. It is more along the lines of a reactor watching an episode of Band and the total reaction video is 18 mins long. When I know that they do intros of 3-4 mins and outros of 3-4 mins. So they cut a 1 hr episode down to about 10 mins. At that point it should be called a review not a reaction. I think you guys do a very good job with your cut aways and keeping your reactions on point. If you decided to do more cut aways I think that would work out well for you. I would suggest just blurring the movie as the better option, but that is more personal preference rather than any kind of hard suggestion.

Good point about the algorithm thing, were hoping when we are fully back up and running if we do some really big hitters that may get us back into the algorithm quickly!
