We finally got around to watching this absolute classic of a Christmas movie! Somehow both of us managed to get through life without watching this, we had heard many good things but this movie was a truly special film. The end really got us, especially Harry! Really enjoyed your reaction to this one. Harry, don't feel bad about getting emotional at the end of this one, happens to me as well. Yeah, as a man/father, you can really empathize with George at the end as he sees his life falling apart around him and he starts to worrying about how his family will be taken care of without him. One of the things I really like about this film is how flawed and imperfect and yet good George is as a character. Yes, he puts others before himself and that's endearing, but then he's also prone to quick temper and resentment for all the things he doesn't have. He wants his wife and his children to have nice material things because he thinks that's what would make his life successful, but in actuality Mary never wanted any of that--she just wanted a humble life with George and the family they made together. By the end George finally sees that it's not about the material wealth that makes a man rich, but the people in his life who love him. "No man is a failure who has friends." Beautiful film.
