This movie is almost a scene-for-scene remake of the movie "Yojimbo". They are so similar that Kurosawa sued for copyright infringement (and won). He later joked that this movie ("A Fistful of Dollars") was his most successful film. The whole "Man with No Name" trilogy is a myth, though. When they were made, the three movies were intended to be completely independent of each other. They even feature the same actors in different roles. The trilogy idea was a publicity stunt invented by an American film distributor in order to promote the films in America. Clint Eastwood even has a (different) name in each movie ("Joe", "Manco" and "Blondie", respectively). Part of the reason the trilogy myth caught on so well is because Clint Eastwood wears the same outfit in the first two movies. You can even see the bullet holes in his serape in the second movie. That's because the movies were so low budget that Clint Eastwood was required to provide his own wardrobe. He only had one suitable outfit, so he wore it for both movies.

I’m not a western expert by any means, but I’m pretty sure that spaghetti westerns really changed the way American westerns were made in the ‘70’s. This movie is both good and obviously a little ridiculous, but that’s typical of spaghetti westerns. It was style over realism. They don’t exactly age well, but I still admire their style. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the best of the trilogy. It has a more complete story, and Eli Wallach gives a great performance. Yes, he’s an American actor playing a Mexican bandit, but he pulls it off. Kurosawa made many great movies. In my opinion, his best movie is Ran, but that’s open to debate.

ok these are some cool fun facts, that's interesting that his name changes between the movies! and the wardrobe! definitely thought it was a more intentional trilogy I guess, ahhaha
