Crazy good film. Even as a standalone action film

Mike A

This movie felt like a turning point in the MCU. Up until now, it was fun movies where the heroes always win (ok, a few moments of losing). This one had some seriousness and consequences for past and current decisions, with a more real-world feel. A top 5 all-time MCU movie for a lot of people.

Wargames (1983) -> Natasha saying, "Shall we play a game?" Solid, interesting movie with a young Matthew Broderick.

This is my favourite film until now, I love spy thriller movies. I am also a fan of Agents of Shield, especially with this arc when Hydra is revealed / takes over and Shield falls.

Looking forward to Guardians next. Ok, looking forward to the next 3. Or the next 14.

TROPIC THUNDER !!! I've been waiting to write a note about Comedies in general, and Blazing Saddles and Tropic Thunder specifically. More comedies should be on your list, including Blazing Saddles and Tropic Thunder (and Anchorman, and ...)

I always thought "you left your stereo on" seemed like an odd throwaway line, following the flirting. and why would a neighbor notice the difference unless it was bothersome loud, which it isn't? i juuust got it. 🚧⚠

I love that you recognized the actor (Danny Pudi) from Community! Keep an eye out, you might find more actors from Community in the MCU :)

Coby Smulders does an odd bit of body language in the "surgery" scene. Everyone is standing tense at the window watching the doctors about to declare Nick Fury dead and Agent Hill shifts her weight, settling her hips to one side, not at all what you'd call a tense posture. Almost like she relaxes at that point, or is like a bored tweenager watching her younger brother's clarinet recital. It was either intentional or happy accident, but it's good. Like the scene in the Firefly TV show where Nathan Fillion is handcuffed, talking to a "cop," and he scratches the side of his nose casually. In the commentary, Joss Whedon compliments him on the bit of business & Nathan says, "wanna know why i did that?" Joss: "Itchin'?" Nathan: "Itchin'." 😂

Winter Soldier is definitely a turning point for the MCU! I think the reason people like, and connect with Captain America movies so much is because they are some of the more grounded, and realistic movies. I think it’s good that you didn’t recognize Robert Redford. It just shows how good of an actor he is.

RP

Well if want to get into Redford there’s about 14 movies you should watch, but I would love to see you watch ‘All The Presidents Men’. That’s my 2 cents. 🍻
