okay, I thought it'd be fun to do a poll for some movies that I know are based in NYC (well that's a lot) but that I also have a rough/loose understanding that NYC is kind of also a character within the movie/very central to the story. hopefully I got close enough with these picks!

Uncle Phoenix

My two favorite NYC movies are “As Good As It Gets” and “”Something’s Gotta Give”. And if you watch them in that order, they kinda work. (However, I do admit that they are boy movies.)

Talking about cities, I am Dutch and went to (high) school in Arnhem and now I live in The Hague. Two cities where Audrey Hepburn spend a lot of time in her younger years. Because of this, I have to go with Breakfast At Tiffany's (1961). So I hope this works for this 'New Amsterdam' poll ;-)

Norman

Do the Right Thing features one of John Turturro's best performances. (He's appeared in 9 Spike Lee films.)

Mike A

"Escape from New York" was the 1st movie that came to mind. It's an 80s cult/camp classic w/ Kurt Russell & silly fun, but not something I'd really suggest to you. And it's not really about New York per se. Feel free to watch a trailer.

ckenney711

IMO, Do the Right Thing is the best non-apocalyptic heat wave movie

Steve Holton

Fun! I went big, but looks like I go home.😊

Lana Gorgeous

Saturday Night Fever, the movie that made John Travolta a mega star back in the day. He was also nominated for an Oscar for his role. All filmed in New York!

Myoclonic Jerk

Why not? It's a fantastic movie, a classic. You're right it's not for this poll, but i think she'd get into it.

Myoclonic Jerk

Not really into any of these movies except the one that was so good i can't watch it again. Y'all normies ever have that? Something is so incredibly good that it touches down into your soul, but you never want to feel that again? I dunno if's a spectrum thing or a me thing. Any neurodivergents out there want to ring in?

Camilla's Corner

ahh neat! I’ve still never seen Audrey Hepburn in anything 😅😱

Camilla's Corner

ok I had no clue he was in so many of Spike’s movies!! makes me want to see some even more!

Duane Richard

A John Carpenter series from you would be fantastic!

Lana Gorgeous

It's a very good movie, the 4th highest grossing movie of 1977 and the highest grossing r rated movie, great music and john Travolta doing his dancing thing, but it's not like Grease or Dirty Dancing or Footloose or Flashdance. It's a gritty street movie with that language and perspective on life, more realistic to the street and how those 19 to 20 year old survived in their environment. This movie made him a big star and the very next year he did Grease and it was a massive success, made 400 million on a 7 million dollar budget. two massive hits by 23 or 24.

Blind Entertainment

Too many good choices, but went with Big because it’s a favorite from my childhood!
