I want the feel of the finished product to be some kind of blend between Ranger and Necromancer.I'm playing with the idea of raising familiar spirits that can be used to temporarily inhabit dead bodies.Any of those class seed effects from the last chapter give you guys any ideas?

Comments

Earl Myers

Always think about necros as DOTs / darkness snares from EverQuest days. Ranger that had some weird underground teleportation like grave running + poison corrosive range attack could be cool.

Ricky Kukowski

Ranger needs some traversing abilities. And with attrition’s ability to disconnect I’d so you include something linked to that. Freedom with the Abyss A freedom of movement that specifically affects powers trying to hold it.

Michael

Class is meant to be a way to cover large ground with many minions? 1* charge: Familiar Weapon Summon a familiar spirit into a weapon of choice that deals necrotic damage. If target is slain by a weapon with a familiar inside, the familiar moves to posses the corpse from the weapon. More charge could be used to create a stronger familiar, resulting in less stats lost on death (presumably time between death and miasma leakage would matter) it could also result in a quicker return from death for more charge.

Littleme02

Mabye control of a emitted poison / maisma structure that can land on any meat and put it under his control. Upgrades could be consius control of the spores/poison to direct them. Ability to affect the living

CoveringStorm

Ferryman of Death passive Know when someone dies in a large radius around you, scales with acuity (Potential growth into trigger on death effects. To fit more in line with Charon getting things from the dead he could get some kind of passive buff when people die.)

Angus Losier

Kincaid and Attrition were all about using their own bodies. I'm thinking something where he can use his own blood/tissue to reanimate bodies into quasi-living versions that are basically extensions of himself. Start out with only just animating the body, evolve up to fixing it completely.

Earl Myers

Charming undead might be interesting, like he gets a special bond with their souls and can absorb them temporarily a la Kincaid while helping them move into the afterlife

Michael

If Necromancer, couldn’t this be used with familiars to appear where they are/through them? Popping up of the corpse you just raised sounds decent

Vinohr

Some ability to feed on the living to fuel undead in a radius around feels like it fits. Maybe a life steal effect that when used on creatures with unique miasmatic abilities harvests a portion of that ability and imparts it to local undead under Jorn's thrall. Take a bite out of Will and grant local terrain stabilization or the ability to control limbs telekinetically after they're severed

Vinohr

Maybe it isn't permanent innately but with some combo of sacrifices and relics the abilities can stack and remain within the invested undead. Or maybe a sacrifice allows all undead to have the abilities of any given undead under his control

David Weller

Hmm. Attrition was slippery. Seed of Undeath guy was inevitable. Kincaid was gluttony. I kind of feel like your guy should have some kind of cancer-like effect that once they become infected, they will slowly die... kinda like an affliction lock from WoW. Or even better: an unholy death knight. Yeah, he infects someone with cancerous growths. He can AoE the growths with a pestilence spread-like ability. And when things die, he can turn them into his undead minions. I'm assuming they would look like those tank zombies from The Last of Us who can spread spores, or in this case cancer, to any unlucky individuals.

A

Death’s Shadow - his shadow permanently becomes a shade that acts as his familiar. The shade can interact with physical objects, shift into different forms (including a weapon like a shadow sword), as well as has a minor life drain attack (all of which can be upgraded).

Noah Bender

Probably going to need some kind of sensory ability. Maybe to do with seeing souls, or undead, or something that helps with tracking. Could mess with some sacrifices that expand what counts as undead or what counts as a soul, or maybe give a bonus to tracking stuff that's already dead.

Daedalus

Some kind of pseudo-lich ability might be neat, where each time the person dies, they resurrect at their home base and their dead body rises as an undead under their control. Attrition is all about having lots of split-off minions, Kinkaid “delegated everything, even his death,” and of course the Seed of Undeath… is what it says on the tin.

Zack Maril

Rangers use bows and arrows, bows and arrows are made out of wood, wood is dead trees, so why not undead bows and arrows?

Mister Cakers

Hmmm strange mix with attrition. Fecundity with creation and undeath and his class name makes me think he can create “abyssals” or maybe grow them inside corpses. We could call it taxidermy. The large-radius meta + lifesteal would be pretty sweet as a killing healing skill with a cantrip being he can sense anything living.

A

Life Sense - passive that lets him see living entities through walls, darkness, etc. that can function similar to the Zodiac archer’s early ability.

A

Spectral Chains - summons spectral chains that can be used to bind enemies, or help traverse difficult terrain (like a conjurabas, movable 30-ft rope).

Opportunity Drive

Some kind of fungal evolution/propagation that is about consuming. Like a fungal evolving zombie coterie

Mister Cakers

Got a bit mixed up, the seed of undeath is what comes out of the machine normally. The inevitable guys sacrifice was something else

Daedalus

A “Mark for Death” ability seems quite appropriate, a persistent curse ability with some kind of tracking/damage multiplying capability inbuilt, what with the Seed’s Inevetability aspect and Kinkaid’s badges, etc

Ethan B.

Maybe adding the three class seeds to the post will make it easier for people to make ideas?

TheShadowMuffin

From the class name and seed descriptions i'm imagening some inevitable demise kind of abilities. You'll be guided to the abyss no matter what. Infection/curses that ramp up damage with time, with the ability to spread like a plague/invasive species. Could be touch based at for first infection on a target with proximity spreading, turning into pure AoE with upgrades. I'm also thinking some kind of phasing with increased movement speed, sort of like a spectre. Would have the ranger-esque feeling of teleportation. Lastly some kind of wide area essence drain from recently fallen enemies to restore health/resources.

A

Lord of the Dead - passive. Undead instinctively cures you as one of their own and will have a natural urge to obey your commands (intelligent undead will resist through Focus).

HUAAAANG

Is he going to be the first ever Tower Lord? The class sounds rather meta. If I segregate the Aspects, I wind up with life(Growth, regen, fecundity, gluttony*), death(gluttony*, undeath, lifesteal, poison), and META(creation & Large-radius meta). "Familiar spirits inhabiting the dead" may be too restrictive. It has all the pieces that should permit Reverse Necromancy...wherever THAT would go. Just take that dead hydra soul and shove it into a designed plant. To say nothing of shoving nature elementals into some more advanced housing. Maybe temporary is the wrong angle, or mayhaps temporary is the perfect angle to engage in some mind bending bullshit.

Manuel valdez

I think it would be cool if the familiars he summons are kinda like deadites and they infect and possessed people in a certain radius

A

Abyssal Aura - active. Nearby living entities are drained of life, healing you in turn. Entities slain by this affect may return as undead.

Mister Cakers

Maybe gluttony, life steal, and undeath mix that lets him store healing effects to be used when he takes a fatal blow.

ReadingObsessed

I'm thinking the ability to generate what he needs: arrows, meat, clothes using corpses. Or bonding with the spirits of slain beasts and when those bonded possess a body then it shifts to look like the bonded.

A

Reap the Fallen - Active. Raise a spectral copy of the last entity slain by you to fight on your behalf.

A

Ghostly Passage - Active. move through solid objects at will for a limited duration (can be used to avoid attacks as well).

Mister Cakers

How about a stealth skill, “as still as the dead” while active he is dead but retains all sensory skills and wherewithal.

Daedalus

For reference: Seed of Undeath Adds Undeath, Regeneration, and lifesteal abilities to the aspirant’s class choices. Provides 1 Str, 2 Res, 2 Foc/level. Unknown to all but a few. Kincaid, Lord of Flesh Adds gluttony, growth, and creation Abilities to the Aspirants’ class choices. Provides 2 Strength, 2 resistance. Attrition Fecundity, Poison, large-radius meta.

Scott Crawford

An ability to drain a large radius of miasma, including from climbers and monsters. Miasma can the be spent to create minions or boost the user/minions

Jamarr

Poison and Fucundity make thing of some spreading plague that turns creatures into undead children. We already have clones with the Tangled by I think a reverse werewolf vibe would be appropriate. Beasts you slay can be revived as undead beast/man hybrids.

A

Death’s Foresight - Passive. Sense your own impending death / most likely cause of death (functions as a danger-sense that can be refined with future upgrades).

A

Immortal Coil - once per year, survive an otherwise mortal wound, returning to full health on activation.

Mister Cakers

Got to be honest abyssal throws me off. I don’t really associate it with death, more with eldritch.

Mister Cakers

Remembered death, undeath and creation skill that lets him create attacks based on ones he’s taken. Sorta like a pseudo thorns.

Mister Cakers

Mark for undeath, a poison and undeath skill that lets him tag someone. If they die they reanimate as an undead. Pair it with a skill “new life” a regen and growth skill that inverts dead into alive. No clue how that’s supposed to work out but it’s neat.

Joe ?

The ability to prevent one death in a certain radius with a charge cost proportional to the action necessary to prevent it. If it's something ridiculous like a nuclear explosion the charge cost is prohibitively expensive until Will makes him some custom gear and he gets some sacrifices to lower it, or make the cost sideways to pure charge somehow. Radius scales with perception.

FossilWreckers

Bone to Pick - Create high quality tools from bones. Bloody Boots - You know how Iceman slides around on ice? Similar idea but he slides around on a pool of blood which pairs well with Blood Elemental - Turns blood into an amorphous elemental-esq minion. Maybe he can have multiple? Dead Reckoning - Learn things from the deceased. Bad to the Bone - Poison that reacts poorly to healing. Must remove the infected parts. Zombifies limbs and turns them against the host. Can still operate once removed.

FossilWreckers

You mean months ago or in the previous chapter? Because it's in the previous chapter. You can edit and add it, for reference.

Daedalus

Somehow, I missed that.

Arnon Parenti

He should have Kincaid's devouring ability where he can store undead in his pocket dimension belly and mix and match their abilities like sourdough but in a fleshy version instead of artifacts and he can pop the body parts from his body to use these abilities.

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

Marked for Death - Jorn can choose to curse a target in line of sight. A cursed entity has a large debuff to resistances and immunities on the next attack successfully made against it. Scales with Focus.

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

Spectral Scout - Jorn can raise the recently dead and is aware of what the undead are aware of. Additionally, Jorn can fully possess an undead and can temporarily use any skills or stats the undead had. The undead can be both humanoids and animals. Scales with Acuity.

samuel tupper

Gluttonous Rider - creates a phantasmal parasite that attached to a host and allows the user to see the world through their senses, lasts for one hour per charge and afterwards begins to rapidly consume the host body for extra time. Can jump hosts. This could be upgraded to allow for more control and eventual full possession with extra abilities for the target. Good for the ranger side imo

Ceremal

Going more into the ranger aspect: Death's trail - spend charge on a corpse/part of it in a radius around the site of death. Spawns a remnant spirit familiar of the dead entity that will pursue it's killer indefinitely (can go for: piercing stealth, can go to different floors, curse on contact/convert to undead on contact upon using additional charge etc. To flesh it out a bit)

Ceremal

Kind of a chaotic quick blurb but I'm sure you know what I'm trying to go for here xd

Farxzay

Mark of Death: Lets the climber place a mark on a target that they are able to sense the location of, so long as the target is on the same floor. It also inflicts a growing poison effect. Familiar Undead: The climber has a spectral familiar that is able to raise dead bodies, and take them over. The undead this creates is able to consume dead bodies in order to heal itself, and grow in strength. Only one body can be raised and controlled at a time. Ghoulish Appetite: The climber is able to eat dead bodies in order to gain a regeneration effect, as well as temporary stats. It also provides a few passive effects that grow on consumption, including: heightened senses, resistance to disease and poisons, predatory instincts, and maybe more. The climber registers as undead if they have not eaten recently.

Patron1kj6tz

Pale Rider Variable Charge Variable Focus Designate a single undead you control as your steed. It shares any movement effects and buffs you have. Undead under your control gain movement speed while following its path. Gains Strength, Resistance, Kinesthetics, and movement speed buffs based on expended charge and Focus. If you steed is destroyed or a new on is chosen buffs are lost and its path fades. Path scales with Resistance. -As I understand necromancers sacrificing focus to maintain undead is typical, I was unsure if the skill should only scale based on sacrifices focus or his total focus (or relevant stat) -"following in path" starts off as undead directly following it run faster, after some stat growth, cantrip perspective fuckery, upgrades, and or relics it turns into him leaving persistent roads that allow his undead to rapidly travel from one area to another letting him quickly redistribute his troops and expand that buffs so his undead are much stronger in his domain. Gonna wanna get rid of the whole lose everything if your mount extra-dies just to be safe though -Would synergize with any movement skills from the ranger half of his class -I didn't want to explicitly write it in the text and leave it as one of those "unwritten" skill things but I intended for only beneficial movement effects to be transferred so he could munchkin something that gives him a some benefit at the cost of a speed debuff that doesn't affect his mount ex: a sprinting skill or relic that give a move buff followed by a debuff that would not apply to his mount -I did intend for it to only share movement buffs though, not ALL buffs (though an upgrade would fix that) so maybe slight change to wording? -pale rider is one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse so it fits given the oncoming end of the coil -pale rider is also a cowboy movie and he will be living is a desert EDIT: fixed some spelling errors

Sce7tm

The combination of the growth/fecundity descriptors paired with the general vibe of necromancy/lifesteal for some reason reminds me of the god Crom Cruach from Irish mythology. An evil god that demanded child sacrifices in exchange for a bountiful harvest (at least according to Christian monks). So maybe some sort area/domain ability that in exchange for a sacrifice (e.g. a corpse) empowers the local fauna/animates the local flora into an army of minions. I suppose its more necromancer/druid than necromancer/ranger, but could be very useful for Will both in terms of producing food, as well as dominating the local monsters.

Not You

Ie. primeval companion: spirit of the floor. Summon an undead creature that is thematically tied to the floor or is summoned on. The spirit may be recalled on later floors, but will be weakened somewhat. (Perhaps scaling is applied less on the wrong floors?)

Ricky Kukowski

Tldr: these abilities seem best if combined necro druid with a specialization for spreading creations over a large area, dots, benign status affects that can be later activated, modifying past creations. Being able to create undead off of the self. Even the name works as you’re guiding the undead you create and really almost creating an undead/life ecosystem. Let’s take a big look Undeath, regeneration, lifesteal, growth, gluttony, creation, fecundity, large-area meta, poison Class name: Abyssal Guide. Honestly, looking at it, you want a DOT necro with ranger specs. How does each work with those ideas. Undeath: obviously works great with necro. For dot lots of undeath debuffs exist. Ranger less useful unless travel through undeath?? How does abyss relate to undeath? Regeneration: for necro its really more about enduring and surviving. Dot again outlasting your opponents Ranger: survival is a ranger’s bread and butter this ties this aspect into the Ranger archetype well. Lifesteal: always feels like a necro power. Works well with dots and wonderfully with a survivor focus ranger. (Realize that both regen and lifesteal can also work with other archetypes like barbarian etc. Gluttony: necro ehhh maybe consumption for regeneration with minion or self. Really ties it into ranger and necro then and a touch power that slowly consumes the enemy while regenerating and restoring the self. Growth: ties with consumption and regeneration to make layers inside. I know powers don’t work on a one power does all but just thinking about blending stuff atm. Necro: grow created undead, Dot: abilities stack and increase over time, ranger: things grow learn patterns understand etc. Creation: an ability to pull excess flesh from youself to create undead minions that can be reconsumed or can consume more themselves. Necro creating undead, dot not much, ranger more knowledge of the environs you traverse? Fecundity: necro: undead that can reproduce. Dot spread conditions you’ve created. Ranger again understanding the cycle??? Realistically alot of these feel more like druid abilities than ranger ones. Similar but not the same. Large-area meta: this has so many implications, the most notable is being able to modify abilities that spread and works with everything. Poison: separate from disease unfortunately, again this blends better with druid than ranger but I suppose could be tied into adding different natural weapons to their undead.

Not You

Use a sacrifice to create a permanent undead. Its abilities and stats will be randomly determined based on the level of the climber and the quality of the sacrifice.

Not You

Create undead terrain: designate an area of undeath. In the area, healing is mitigated, undead are strengthened, and the climber will deal additional necrotic damage

Heedless

Overall flavor is undeath, with a focus on gluttony, growth, and large radius: That means rot/decay/microorganisms An ability to sense it (growing over time into something that senses everything — ultimately everything is decaying at least a little bit all the time.) An ability to generate it — accelerated decay over an area (theoretically growing in speed, range, and types of concepts covered by decay) An ability to feed off of it — possibly as part of the ability above after a few evolutions Plus a few one shots in keeping with the individual sacrifices. I have to admit I'm not really sure where Ranger is in those sacrifices, but the vision ability at least makes him a better scout.

Jk

Relic Warp: Select a person or animal in the vicinity to transform into a random thematic relic to fit an empty slot

Newt Boot

Creates a layer of undead flesh and bone to form a road. Undead as a terrain and maybe all terrain and creatures in range of aura are counted as undead.

Infinate Fail

From the other comments, it seems druid fits in much more naturally than ranger

Aloysius

*Call forth pet*: Using this ability requires (multiple) corpses. When used, will agglomerate all the nearby corpses into a flesh-crafted abyss-tainted dog/cat/bird/fish/hamster (any usual pet) that retains traits and general form (and later abilities) of any corpses used. This ability passively slows down the degradation into miasma of any nearby corpses. The pet's vessel slowly breaks down as its abyssal undead nature permeates it (can later be healed/maintained by devouring more corpses). (each pet has their personality based on their relevant animal pet type soulsoup like the butlers but is corrupted by the abyss),(can also add preserved sacrifices to the pile but mostly only useful if the pet can also inherit abilities) *Doomed journey*: Use this ability targeting a creature to leave a mark on them with which you can always see the creature regardless of obstacles in a certain range. Having the mark increases the likely hood of death for the creature and upon death, results in a temporary undead spectre to arise from it before it gets consumes by the abyss. *Abyssal shortcut*: Take a short cut through the abyss, effectively teleporting between two spots as time passes differently in the abyss. (occasionally has abyssal tendrils emerge and grasp/attack anything nearby) (user is hidden from sight of the abyssal inhabitants) *Familiar terrain*: Call forth the abyss to warp the terrain around you, bringing the battlefield closer to the ideal of the abyss and resurrecting all nearby corpses with abyssal entities inhabiting them. *Local knowledge*: Invade the mind of a subdued creature and extract both information it possesses and about it. The abyssal corruption kills the creature but raises it as a mindless undead afterwards. (imagine dark oily tendrils stabbing into something's orifices)

雨宿りAma yadori

I was thinking about Attrition and their experience fighting it and had the thought about a bunch of corporeal undead springing out of the ground to surround and ambush some poor climber/monster, as though they were ghosts traveling through the ground. Maybe something to the effect of sacrifice an undead to give one of its traits to x other undead for y time. Finding a way to remove the time constraints would open up a lot of room to refine some elite undead.

Alexis Lionel

A ranger is about the caretaking of the land, of the natural processes. And yeah, the classical version of necromancer is "raise armies of undead". But a necromancer could also be someone who works in service to the natural order. A mage of death and rot. Mmm, wanna say Dominic Deegan has a great example of a necromancer that isn't evil and how death is a natural process of the cycle of nature. Umm, abilities wise, stuff about leading the dead along their journey, helping them find closure, or in exchange for being lead into the next part of life. Maybe giving some temporary ability to the guide? Mmm, oh also destined death. A ranger imbuing their ranged attack with the inevitable end of a person. So the arrow tracks and hits like, what the system knows to be the weakpoint of a person.

Veracis

It’s interesting, the sacrifices are ultimately different forms of endurance pushed to the extremes, whether by persistence through mindless self replication, a gluttonous form of stockpiling, or a test of attrition through guerilla tactics. Feels like some weird mimicry of Will’s identity persisting through the coils. Unnatural endurance paired with attrition’s unique target access and the ability to either split oneself or summon/control a shareable stockpile of power sounds like an intriguing. Jorn could convincingly create entities that persist with him like the phantom hand, but more geared towards possession and self-autonomy like the ghost butlers. They’d gain some form of power stacking e.g. a portion of the stats of the last thing the ability subsumes/possesses or a portion of Jorns own stats. Jorn should either be able to generate enormous amounts of these entities or propagate them across a large area as that’s how the seed of unseats and attrition worked. The tower will probably place a hard limit, but realistically Jorn just got three lord tier sacrifices, it should be unfair in some regard.

Astral Hand

Feeble Servant -> Feeble Servants -> Disciplined Servants Feeble Servant: 3 Charge Call forth a feeble servant made from the miasma of a slain monster. The feeble servant will possess a remnant of the source monster’s primary ability and will follow simple orders that it is given. The feeble servant will persist for 24 hours. Disciplined Servants: 9 Charge Call forth four disciplined servants made from the miasma of four slain monsters. These summons will possess weakened versions of the source monsters’ primary ability. The disciplined servants will coordinate to carry out given commands. The disciplined servants will persist for 7 days. Home Sweet Home: Designate an area as your Home. Abilities used and summons within your Home Area will be 50% more potent. You will be able exercise a portion of your power over the land. Your home area cannot be changed for 1 year. As One: You are one with your summons. You can see, hear, and feel through your summons (at will). Your summons may act as a conduit for your abilities according to their strength. Persistent Plague -> Persistent Aura Persistent Plague: Your summons will persist after being mortally wounded. After a time, a weaker version of the slain summon will be born from its corpse. Persistent Aura: All slain life with persistent aura will give rise to new life with similar qualities at an increased rate.

Garnett Coetzee

With Fecundity, growth and gluttony i imagine undead cows that steal life force from dead carcasses to make their meat stay fresh, then add a compounding effect from kincaids flesh that makes the next eater stronger, you have replicating meat that can potentially boost a climber that eats the beast.

McIntosh Ewell

Maybe not applicable now, but it'd be pretty cool if he eventually took after Loth with a Kodoku housing various harvested spirits until the strongest defeats and devours the rest

P A

Abyssal Guide reminds me of Charon the Hades ferryman. Possibly the ability to move/ferry vitality from source to source. Pull the life from a tree til only a seed of life remains, then plant the seed and instant tree. Pull life from an enemy til a seed remains, and eat the seed to regain lost health. Could be useful for creating arable land in the desert by draining nutrients from floor 5 and planting it on 10.

Scistra

Begone Necrodruid propaganda! Ranger archetype has so much off-meta potential. Undeadly Touch: Active-Infest creature remains with malignant growths. (Cancerous arrowheads anyone?) Rite of Interment: Passive-can sense and collect the essence of the dead into an amalgamated spirit. Number of spirits scales with ???. Active-Inter spirit/s into dead flesh. 1 charge per interment. (POSSESSED cancerous arrowheads??) Vivisection: Components collected from living creatures don’t spoil. (Useful for stronghold but can’t make bowstring(?) also could be kinda f***ed up) Whispers: hear the knowings of unrealised eidolons/spirits around you. (I’m spitballing here.)

Scistra

Oh! Ectoplasmosis: generate ghostly forms for spirits to inhabit (undead bows. Familiars. Arrows. Cloak? Limitless)

P A

Gluttonous Host. ? Charge: create an undead host. Host’s growth and abilities/stats change reliant on what it eats. ? Charge: Host Explosion. Sacrifice host to create an explosion. Explosion varies on what host has consumed. Scales with ?. Good offensively or as a support. If it are fire monsters, big fireball. Poison monsters, poison cloud. Water monsters could create a lake. Etc…

Austin Athman

Adaptive Spirit- instead of an amalgamation of multiple spirits, you may summon a spirit specific to your needs (tracking, preservation, or specific traits to counter a specific monster you're hunting) This could be a little to OP as you could just summon a spirit to help you learn how to hunt, fight, learn tower history and teach you any type of skill.

Justin Carroll

Since we've seen multiple instances of undead eidolons' personalities being based on an amalgamation of the souls they are created from (the butlers, the fae), a class named Abyssal Guide seems like a good way to put a capstone on that concept. Perhaps something where when something dies near him, he can spend charges to move their souls into a soul "battery" (themed as the souls he is guiding). Undead eidolons he creates uses those souls, but their power isn't cumulative, it's averaged, similar to how sourdough worked before Will did his shenanigans. This makes the class function best when specializing, and Jorn's personality will ensure he specializes as a ranger. It also gives Will a really strong class with his best sacrifices, since different people can specialize in different roles with the same sacrifices. Class upgrade paths could vary from having additional soul batteries, extra eidolons, or a single very powerful eidolon. I feel like it also nicely fits with the themes of the sacrifices.

Aloysius

Ranger is usually ranged, movement and having one companion animal. Druid is more nature magic and general animal friendliness. So I would say for a huntee ranger is more appropriate and also with all the companion undead, it seems thats what people go for

GryphonKnight

So, looking at my notes (see below) these pop right into my mind 🔲Norworm Hive Class (would just be funny if they accidentally created a Norworm Hive Class trying to fight a Norworm Species. Norworm vs. Norworm violence with Star Beasts) 🔲Necromancy that controls Fungal Zombies, Parasitic Wasps, both biological poison/ disease/ infestation (Great synergy with Loth for Wasps and Will for Fungal, if fungal counts as terrain) 🔲A famous web serial where the Source breaks off shards of itself, gives creatures super powers, then harvests their growth after they die 🔲So many Lovecraftian stories, so many Combining all of them ➖Create poisonous fungal terrain ➖Fungal terrain creates Zombies out of dead Forest creatures ➖Wasps live among the Fungal Zombies use an illusion to appear as sexy/ cute, winged creatures while making the Fungal Zombies appear as fluffy/ calming, snuggly creatures. The tell being each appearance is tailored to the creature viewing the illusion ➖Wasps lay eggs inside living forest creatures. Hatched eggs kill forest creature making dead Forest creatures for Fungal terrain. As a side effect, eggs kill any other parasites. So a desperate way to clear a Norworm Climber infestation would be using the wasps, then curing the Climbers of eggs before they hatch ➖As typical of Lovecraftian stories, Beings able to pierce the illusion see an Lovecraftian horror of melted flesh, insect chitin, too many limbs, too many sensory organs, etc. ➖Unlocking the Advanced Class allows a very limited amount of Wasp illusions, and Fungal illusions, to become permanent, physical transformation. Lord Level allows a small subset of those to become Kobald sized, and Kobold intelligence. Mixing sexy/ cute/ fluffy/ calming class minions with repulsive/ disturbing/ hard/ shocking minions. Notes Seeds Undeath Undeath, Regeneration, Lifesteal (Wraith/ Troll) Kincaid, Lord of Flesh Gluttony, growth, creation (Flesh Maze/ Fairy Circle) Attrition Fecundity, large-radius meta, poison (Fungal Hoard/ Insect Hive) 🎬

GryphonKnight

Reading other comments Necromancy Druid does seem to fit the sacrifices better To make a Necromancy Ranger class maybe invert it ➖Ability to pass through Undead/ Dead as if they were a terrain ➖Ability to sense through Undead/ Dead ➖Undead/ Dead beings can be temporarily restored to living ➖Undead destroyed become a Fairy Ring with healing properties and ward against other Undead. Stronger Undead become stronger Fairy Rings ➖Any Wooden equipment (trees being nature/ living/ dead) is especially effective versus Undead when used by Abyssal Guide ➖Any Leather, Feather, Bone, Horn, or Teeth equipment can be used to temporarily summon a spectral Chimera creature made up all the creatures used to create the equipment. Example Fossils teeth might summon a Spectral T-Rex. A Whale bone club with Shark leather handle and Peregrine Falcon feathers as decoration could summon a whale sized, winged, spectral shark that emits whale song while dive bombing enemies ( Stealing from the Master, writer Alan Dean Foster’s Journey of the Catechist) 🎬

Imp

The *name* makes me think Charon. The tags from the sacrifice, however, makes me think blood magic. Undeath, lifesteal, regeneration, gluttony, poison, growth, fecundity. So, for abilities, I'd go with: Life sense blood/life steal using / creating blood armaments blood-alchemy spawn

Gibby

New Life Through Death Sacrifice X amount of Focus and 1-5 levels worth of experience to create a familiar. They begin as a lv1 Eldilon. They can then consume other monsters and grow in level. This would allow him to slowly get stronger and stronger summons, but also allow him to constantly generate more merit for Will, since he will constantly have summons growing in strength.

Aidan Roberts

Rangers whole shtick is to maintain the ecosystem and use it to their advantage in a fight. Similar with druids but they are more concerned with protecting it. A necromancer raises the dead or rather controls the bodies/souls of the dead. Kinkaid was literally a growing blob of flesh with incredible articulation. seed of undeath: literally compacted souls Attrition: incredibly resilient by means of being stupidly hard to catch. I think there should be some kind of flesh growing/manipulation ability. Maybe even extend that to organic matter of all kinds. (Deals with food problem, even if a bit icky) The ability to control dead flesh. Like he grows a lump, cuts it off and can manipulate it like they would any other undead. Definitely needs some kind of terain manipulation from Attrition. Seed of undeath is a hard one but I think using his flesh abilities to make a new body for someone and maybe bringing them back to life is a cool idea. Some kind of tracking ability, like being able to sense fleshy things or using flesh like the miny Attrition worms. Also I think enhancement abilities are good so something to make flesh under his control stronger. Damage spread to flesh blobs. Cooties: he touches you? Cool now you have cancer.

GryphonKnight

> I'm playing with the idea of raising familiar spirits that can be used to temporarily inhabit dead bodies I misread that as family spirits and their dead bodies Now I want a Necromancer that can only raise relatives, but the further back you go, the more dead are related to you Lord level can bring back prehistoric Mega Fauna 🎬

Garnet of Flame

Okay, based off the attributes for his sacrifices; creation, growth, fecundity and undeath—a primary ability to allow him to create and modify undead feels like a must. It also fits with the companion idea of a ranger; having undead that he can improve over time. Besides that one, wide area meta, gluttony, poison, life steal and regeneration feels like it could create a nasty territory/domain ability. Like some sort of zone full of necrotic poison that drains enemies while proportionally strengthening allies. An upgrade could make it so things that die in his domain would automatically become undead under his control. If he does go with the undead creation/modification primary, he could get a secondary that allows him to store “consumed” undead and materials for undead. Could also be part of the territory—like and area where he can “eat” things and store them in a dimensional stomach for later use. Just a couple ideas. They don’t have much to do with spirits, but I think they would fit the sacrifices. Looking forward to seeing what this Abyssal guide ends up looking like. Heck it might be fun to see multiple that chose different abilities if Will wants to keep experimenting with these sacrifices.

Gorane

I think he should have the capability to create like fleshy unfead, not undead undead. Like some of those zombie stories where the virus mutates and makes them merge or evolve as creatures

Gorane

Guide aspect of it sounds underdeveloped by most, idk a skill that makes someone invisible to necromantic creatures as long as they dont attack them too obviously?

Gorane

Wide range autonomous flesh monsters seems like a good goal. Also he could use a passives skill like duncan has with Unliving One. Tho I guess he could juat add that to someone ability as an upgrade, that he himself counts as undead for his abilities or buffs

Gorane

Uuu this is a great idea. I think it would take a few upgrades, but I can see him being able to make his undead creatures treat terrain like Attrition did / OR be incorpral like 8th floor wraiths or stuff

Gorane

I think a fleshsmith works better than a traditional necromance

He should have an ability that is like; the beings you kill have a lingering effect on the environment that empowers your minions/yourself and weakens your enemies/the living. So as long as he sticks to the same hunting grounds he gets stronger there. Each creature gives a unique stat based on it's strengths. How long the lingering effect last scales with his focus. How much each kill impacts the environment scales with resistance (with some sacrifices).

Mani

So headhunter?

Sry i couldnt write this up earlier bcz i was busy being gay but i GOT U. Okok so ranger/necro gets u to a guerilla necromancer right, since he doesnt rly have the physical stats to be a martial fighter AND a mage so instead of taking the martial side from ranger we take its "guide" aspect and its propensity for guerilla warfare. Ability one is the keystone familiar undead spirit one, drawing from the necromancy, fecundity, poison, meta-radius, gluttony, growth, and lifesteal tags. Raise a dead creature (maybe raising climbers takes an upgrade) with a fraction of its original power (again, good place for an upgrade a la the illusion plant), with a focus cost based on the creature's strength. It infects things. From there, you have a few routes. Maybe a la growth and lifesteal and gluttony, the illusion plant sacrifice lets the original spirit become closer in strength to its original power the more things that it infects, probably scaling by the strength of what it infects. That is VERY interesting with ability 2. Maybe a different sacrifice lets infected creatures rise as undead upon death, a la gluttony. Toss in the Hydra sacrifice so he can summon multiple at once (with an appropriate focus cost). End result: find a powerful corpse, raise it, and it's weak, and you're weak because your focus is low. Manage to get it out of wherever you found it, and you can maybe get it more powerful by consuming/stealing the strength of other creatures, but until then you're vulnerable. Enter ability two, some form of phasing or dimenson-shifting a la kincaid. Upgrade it so can apply to undead too, and maybe others can enter this shifted state so as to fight the user, but their strength is slowly drained while they do, and the user gets some sort of buff when enemies die in its domain. End result, you've got a convenient little NPC you can mostly forget about but who pops out of walls and raises a corpse in the middle of combat, before fleeing back through the wall while Will tries to keep whoever would stop him busy, and then the kid has to frantically grow the undead by infecting things so he can bring it back in time to be of use. Turn combats into a stealth game where he has to target the weak without being noticed by the monsters who could end him, set traps, and grow his strength. It fits his character perfectly, is personable, and super narratively and mechanically interesting, while simultaneously being unconvoluted, balanced, easy to write, and not taking up too much screentime. Like a good side character! Consider limiting his ability to move undead across floors.

Seed of Undeath: Undeath, Regeneration, Lifesteal. Kincaid, Lord of Flesh: Gluttony, growth, creation. Attrition: Fecundity, large-radius meta, poison 3 Strength, 4 Resistance, 1 Kinesthetics, 3 Focus, 3 Acuity Reap and Sow: Variable Charge: Cast when the user kills a target, granting healing on activation based on target’s stats. A ghostly seed can be harvested from the target’s corpse which, when planted, grows into an eidolon under the user’s control based on the target. User can have a number of active eidolons equal to Focus/10. Deadzone: 1 Charge: Enchant a nearby terrain. Whenever a creature dies in the area, it is raised as an undead and the zone’s radius increases. Duration of area scales with Focus. Drain Life: 1 Charge: Touch a target and drain its lifeforce. If lethal, the target is raised as an undead under the user’s control. Scales with acuity. Mass Psychopomp: Abilities affecting the user which buff movement or cause teleportation may also affect all undead under their control. Foot in the Grave: 1 Charge: Teleport to an undead. Gain lifesteal equal to Acuity/10 % for the next minute.

A little late, but I do really like the idea of companion eidolon spirits. Perhaps as a primary ability that lets him store and summon them with a focus toggle or something. Maybe this can evolve to where they can become corporeal or be sacrificed for a heal/buff? To synergize with that how about an ability that allows him to convert corpses into undead bodies that his eidolons are capable of piloting? The implication being that not any old body can be possessed without an ability being used on it first. And this could maybe evolve to converting corpses into undead equipment or tools/traps. Undead equipment could lead to relic creation similar to/synergizing with Will. Anyways, I look forward to seeing how it all turns out!

You could make it a earth/necro class travel through the ground raise the dead summon spooky stuff like crypto and tempt people to come into the crypt by trick or persuasion.

Tadas

Since the goal is to protect farmers from mostly ambush predators in large area he needs some sensory ability, preferably one that can pierce camouflage. Maybe something like detect life or share senses with his minions. Like Eyes of abyss. Smell could work. Seeing souls/miasma could work. Tracking could work. A domain could work. He clearly wants to use a bow. His primary will be some kind of attack that enhances his arrows - probably with poison for necro/attrition theme. Possibly with life steal or health on kill. He will be mostly on his own and getting hurt is very likely. Possibly enhanced range. It would be odd choice for necromancer to skip on minions or ranger a pet. Maybe something like abyssal hounds. They could help cover large territory. Familiar spirits works well as well, would probably be more thematically fitting with guide portion of his class. I think these 3 should form core of his class and then depending on upgrades and kit you could make him as OP as you want. Movement ability could be nice. A lot of his abilities focus on creation/proliferation. Some of his abilities like poison or minions could temporarily self-replicate if he is fighting multiple opponents. Maybe it would fit thematically more if poison wouldn't be called poison, but something abyss related. Or at least it would look dark and twisted or something. Functionally still a DOT effect. But then again Jorn is a sweetheart, I really hope he won't become some edgelord. He abilities looking edgy is fine though.
