Loved the reaction and discussion! Wow, I have to say, for a little 50-page one-shot - one of the more challenging things I’ve read in a long while. 😂 My plan was to read it once and then follow along the reaction – but I ended up reading it a few times ‘cause the first time through I was infuriated! 😂 By the little spirit essentially playing God and deciding to ruin someone’s life on a fancy; by a mother so neglectful to the point of murder. I then calmed down and gave it another read. Then I primarily read it from the spirit’s point of view – as an innocent, foolish love and a childlike lack of understanding and insight that is completely natural but also superficial. On another layer, I think it can also be read as not the soul of a child as much as a ‘possessor’ - and perhaps in an innocent way (or at least lacking any sort of overt negative motive), but still a soul which wanted to be near someone specific with no particular care towards the actual personhood it affected. I agree that the minimalist approach of the art and the storytelling is really well done – also in the sense that it allows for So Many different interpretations! I feel bad for both of them in different ways. Thank you to Nicolas for this commission! 🥰 I’ll be mentioning this one to my therapist, so hope you’re happy. 😂 Looking forward to next week! 💙

*Slurps iced coffee* If there’s one thing about me is that I loveeee timing things! Ahsjdnfnf it’s here! I’m so glad you really liked this one-shot. In all honesty I didnt have any plans to sub to the commission tiers so it came out of a whim. For a couple months I wanted to recommend Love Letter but decided to hold off until it was close to Mother’s Day. (Happy super early Mother’s Day to each & every mom!) This little story reminded of a dark case I looked into in College and also of my own relationship with my mom. I don’t want to get personal but I want to point out that parents aren’t perfect (we’re only human. Not to excuse some horrible actions yall) & sometimes their choices affect us in ways that can last a lifetime. The theme of forgiveness, unconditional love, and guilt in this story made me cry the first time I read this. It’s so visceral the more you ponder on it. There so many things I want to touch up on but I’m running late right now so I’ll yap away later haha. I hope people give the story a chance and tag along with you. Hope you all have a phenomenal weekend! 🫰🏽

Is it ever a good day for rain? HAHA- let me stop. I want to thank you again for reading this sweet yet heart wrenching story! Ozaki Kaori is a GEM I didn’t expect to find. I saw this little story recommended from time to time & one day I decided to sit down & read. The first time I read it, I remembered vividly where and when I did. At the time I was in college with a whole different major. (Human services) I was looking into a case that left me distraught. As I read this one shot I was reminded of that case & suffice to say I was so emotionally spent. As sad as it is was this story was beautiful! And it did leave on a sweet note. It does SO MUCH in just 53 pages! In the short time we spend with this series they add pieces I could not imagine it without. From the bits about being resentful should the little boy have survived… to God telling the tiny soul (and us the reader) that everyone is beautiful without exception… and so on and so forth. I’m glad you also noticed that bit with the mom at the train tracks. I missed it the first time around and when I revisited my jaw dropped! We know that the guilt “invades” her after she feels like the day has a sense of normalcy but we didn’t know how much it was eating away at her. A little raindrop saved her that day. 🥹 The way he comes back in many forms just to meet her once more is so sweet. It makes me ponder on how we wouldn’t want our loved ones to be sad should we leave before them. This was a heartwarming concept, that these souls can come back to help those dear to them. It’s a comforting thought I find too. 🥺 One of the messages I appreciate from Kaori here, is that each & every one of us is worthy of love. On another note, I do hope one day we’ll get an official ~~hardcover~~ English release. It would be so nice to have a physical copy yk? Their artstyle for this was really pretty to see just in general. ✨ So yeah, I haven’t read anything quite like this and it makes me wish to have had more.. time? Maybe that’s a little weird to say since it didn’t really need any more time? Like it was just right. Also, hi any new future readers 😆 I will not apologize for your tears but I can offer a muffin & a hug haha. This was a fantastic start to May & I’m so excited to see the rest of the commission this month! I’m so ready and I hope you all stick around for those too 💖

Listennn it was challenging for me as well 😭 I adore the direction the mangaka took and reading what people think. Thank you so muchhhh for tagging along & yes!! The minimalistic approach was simply superb & it does leave some space to have many different interpretations. I can’t wait to see everyone else’s commission. Im just half way through April so I hope I can catch up 😆 With that said tell your therapist I said sorry LOL. Thank you for being patient as well since I told not a soul what was coming haha. I wonder what next week will have in store… 🦕

Nicolas, OZAKI Kaori!!!! I actually love her early work. It was 5th grade I first met her. Probably 30 years ago… I really love love "The Angel On The Piano" But that masterpiece is so perfect, I didn't accept the nex one she serialized, and then I faded to follow her. However, always "The Angel On The Piano" has a soft spot in my heart. And you gave me that… It made me cry. Cry a river. But in a good way. Apparently, her other works are translated into English. I'm glad that Her theme haven't changed at all. Unconditional love from children. It's so powerful. At least the theme o"The Angel On The Piano" has. You brought back me to the author again. Thank you, Nicolas

I’ve only read a couple of her works and this one shot being one of them! I have yet to pick up more of her works but I’m so happy to hear someone here knows of her!! I haven been wondering what to pick up next but I think I’ll take a look on “the angel on the piano” that sounds real intriguing. Forgive me for the tears! If I could I’d send some sweets as an apology 😆 Reading this I didn’t realize how many stories she wrote over the years! I hope more of her work get physical releases 🥺 I’ve only seen a few. Her writing style is PHENOMENAL! Thank you so much for tagging along as well. ❤️ (Btw the other manga I read from her was the Golden sheep!) The way she tackles a variable of themes is nothing short of amazing. On that end, I’m looking foward to the rest of the month with you all. I’ll definitely tag along for your commission too ✨

Thank you for the comment and kind words! And yeah, WHAT a short but impacting a powerful story! Oh yeah, I was THROWN OFF in those initial moments because of the implication, the nonchalant horror played as humor vibes, and the cutesy art style being SO deceptive! Yes, once you realize the spirit is just an innocent soul that builds its imprint on their chosen mother and develops that love in other forms along the way - and isn’t malicious - it does help. There is some challenging and thought-provoking themes - like “is it okay to invade someone’s life like that when it can cause damage to them” or what does that mean? What about the angel’s role in all that…or god’s? The minimalist approach is REALLY effective and yesss, leads to so many interpretations and moments to have to sit and “chew” – it’s a very melancholy story that’s hidden by its cute illustrations - how dare! Hahaha!! I agree, I was SO happy to get a manga commission and Nicholas chose a great one! Oh nooo, not to the therapist! At least we’ll have…dinosaurs this week? 😛No therapy needed there…right? *nervous laugh*

Yessss, that is so cool that you have read her work for so long! I didn't realize she's done that many manga but that's encouraging - I'll have to take notes for future works! That sentiment of "crying but in a good way" hits right on point with this work as well! I love that note of unconditional love! Thank you for the comment!

romaniablack

I’m going to answer both of your comments together but THANK YOU for recommending this one-shot for the channel! *slurps coffee with you* For a Mother’s Day theme, MAN this fits the bill! Yes, without getting personal either, I definitely agree with the sentiment that parents are not perfect and can make mistakes and yes, their choices can affect us for a long, long time. The theme of forgiveness and unconditional love definitely got to me! But yes, thank you for recommending this! This came out of left field for me and I was not expecting it to be hitting me so hard! And yeah, I won’t be forgetting this one any time soon! I was amazed at how much they put into those 53 pages and it is such a beautifully bittersweet story! And all those little details the story doesn’t “scream” at us but puts in there? WILD. The idea of something seemingly so TINY saving us? SO relatable! The theme and message is definitely heartwarming by the end! We are all worthy of love - I’m getting misty-eyed just writing this! Ooh, an official release would be AMAZING! This was such a unique experience and I’m so glad you commissioned it! Thank you so much for that and the kind words and comment!! I really appreciate it and am excited for May!
