LAHAN IS HERE! I love him so much!

The moment you said about Lakan's response to Maomao's kidnapping in the intro I did evil giggle in anticipation for what's to come this episode 😂 But I definitely agree that it is fun to see the men in this anime have such visibly emotional outbursts in comparison to the calmer way a lot of the female characters act. Not just because in real life there is so much on "women get emotional", but also almost as a further combatant to toxic masculinity and showing that it's okay to become emotional, though there are times when it is more beneficial to remain calm (or at least outwardly calm). As much as it is enjoyable seeing Jinshi interrogate Shenluu the way he does (both in his gruff voice, and then his softer honeyed voice), I do feel for her that it ends up being a trigger for her. And seeing her as a young girl with the previous emperor's hand on hers definitely makes you so much more understanding of the hatred that has festered in the Imperial Palace. Yes I couldn't tell you what the kanji on the grave said for last week's episode because I knew it'd be mentioned in a later episode. Also linking back to the whole ghost stories episode makes you realise that even episodes that don't appear to have any link with the main plot can be looped back around to and actually have meaning 😂 I have been grinning behind my screen every time you suggested the Garnet Pavilion was a Padme Amidala situation and was so excited to see your validation at getting that theory confirmed to be correct 🥳 I adore the way the anime did the reveal, especially the deepening of Ootsuka's voice as Jinshi 😍 Renpu being used as the stand-in for Consort Loulan, like with Taihou's grave, links to another earlier moment at the beginning of this cour. In the case of Renpu it links to Episode 3 with Court Lady Tao taking the place of Concubine Jin (but in that instance it was because of the death of the concubine). The "Papa's coming to rescue you!" really is just so comical 🤣 Lahan is here!!! 🥳 I was joking behind spoiler tags in the discord last week that the preview for this episode made me reminisce over that one episode from Season 4 of Haikyuu!! when we got the glimpse of Oikawa's ear and the fandom went nuts about us getting Oikawa in the following episode 🤣 In Lahan's case that moment when the little ears pop up out of his hat is the scene that was shown in the preview, so all you could see was his head covering, the animal ears, and some of his hair, but it was enough to build excitement for his introduction 😁 But yes, Maomao has a brother and, from this introduction of his, he definitely leaves you wanting to see more from him. I had to pause from laughing so hard at the change in your reaction from "Oh my god!" to "Oh shit!" on seeing said destruction that "Papa's" wrath wrought upon the gate 🤣 Lakan just further adding to the fear of him on top of his strategic mind with that gate. I can definitely hear the similarity in cadence and tone between the singer of this Ending and the singer of 白鲨JAWS for the Link Click Openings. As I was watching the episode I kept thinking how much you were going to enjoy it 😁 Glad it was as satisfying as I thought it would be for you. Some intriguing theories you surmised 🤔🤐 It's been a while since I had a seiyuu to tell you about but with the introduction of Lahan I have a new one for you 🥳 Lahan's voice actor is Toyonaga Toshiyuki. The roles he's voiced that you might recognise him from include: Haiji from KazeTsuyo/Run with the Wind; Kazuki from Buddy Daddies; Asahi from Free!; Shirabu from Haikyuu!!; Tsubasa from Hoshiai no Sora/Stars Align; and Junichirou from Bungou Stray Dogs. He's also Yuuri's seiyuu in the Japanese dub of Yuri!!! On Ice but I know you watched it in the English dub so was unsure if you've heard the original.

It was established in the first season that Lahan is Lakan's nephew and he then adopted him. Khan I guess is the family name (so Khan Lakan and Khan Lahan, and technically Khan Louomen I assume) and La is the clan name.

One of my favorite episodes of the season as well! I love the episodes where all the different players start to move, and we got to see a whole new side to Jinshi, which to his credit, is something I think he reserves for only one or two people, and I feel is not an abusive trait Maomao would have to worry about - but damn did he command the room. In a time where you can have someone killed for looking at you the wrong way, I don't find it too concerning Jinshi has an outbreak over Maomao's safety, especially after all she's done, including saving his life. I'm still a little surprised anytime I think back on that, how he never thanked her for figuring that all out and saving his life, unless I'm mistaken! But yes, I was looking forward to seeing this discussion and reaction after watching it! So enjoyable! And those unexpected new ships this episode! I might need to buckle in for the next few episodes, especially if somehow the resolution to it all goes differently than expected!

This is one of my favorites as well! Yesss, Jinshi finally snaps and is ready to find the woman he loves! And you know, maybe he’ll thank her once he finds her or says that all of that was because she saved his life? I guess we’ll have to see on that! But I’m excited to see what goes down! Thank you for the comment and the kind words! I’m always excited when we get new ships! And yeah, we still have SIX EPISODES left to go…there’s a lot that can happen in that amount of time! I can’t wait!

I was NOT prepared for “papa” to go after his daughter! AHAHA! And yes, getting emotional has benefits but “balance is key” as we’re seeing with pairings in this series, haha! Yeah, it sucks for Jinshi that he looks like a man that was so slimy and caused such resentment! But I WON’T COMPLAIN about hearing Jinshi’s “Gruff” or deep voice, though! Ahem. Yes, I love that callback to the ghost stories and it being about the women that were thrown away by the Emperor but unable to leave. 🙁 VALIDATION PADME AMIDALA STYLE! YES! Hahaha!! The reveal is sooo good! That’s a great point about the Episode 3 tie-in as well. I love Lahan already! And AHAHA, that connection to Oikawa’s ear – sorry, but nothing will ever shake a fandom to such a degree as an angle of an EAR. I AM soooo excited to see more of Lahan already and to see if MaoMao will get to interact with him in the future! I’m so curious of their dynamic! Also, do NOT mess with Lakan. He will cause property damage! The Emperor would like his palace to be left in peace! I’m glad someone else recognizes the voices sounding similar for Link Click and this ED! I am SO curious what is in store and the wait for episode 19 has been BRUTAL! I loved this episode, though! Lahan’s VA is HAIJI! AWWWWW! And Kazuki! Yay! I would NOT have recognized his voice; this character doesn’t strike me as similar to those characters, so we shall see where his character goes! Thank you for the comment and kind words!
