*shifts glasses* That sure ended with a bang HAHA- I can't believe it's out alreadyyyyy. I can't thank you enough for taking not only reacting and discussing the movie but also diving back into comics! So about your question. There's really no one single reason. The main one was because I realized I had the opportunity to share one of my favorite films of all time. And well... I thought it'd be cool for you to meet one of my favorite DC characters- in all of media really. (Jason Todd) There's also other reasons/factors that came to mind. One of them is me forgetting I still had the commission tier 😂 Listennnn- I was a little lost when I got messaged and was struck with a conundrum. I didn't have anything in mind at first but it occurred to me I did commissioned something for Mother's Day. Why not keep a similar theme going and commission something I loved so much for the next parental holiday. Before I saw the movie for the first time, I knew a little about Batman and the justice league. Even saw a few episodes of the animated series with Batman. While I found the DC universe very cool- I never sat down and read comics. There were plenty of times I'd be in bookstores and pass right by the comic section. Rarely did I take a second glance. That is... until I saw the movie Batman: Under the Red Hood. It ignited my love for comics and it was honestly due to angst (I mean... it still does) LOL. The timing was interesting because when I read the comics I was the same age Jason was in comic the movie was based on. (They took some liberties as you know hehe) So yeah I was 18 when I really spiraled into the Batman and Jason Todd lore. The movie doesn't tell Jason's age in the beginning but I think it's safe to assume it's the same as the comic "Death in the family." He died when he was 15. Unlike the film Jason returned much sooner than 5 years later. He was still in his late teens (18/19) when he came back to Gotham as the Red Hood. But enough about comics- sorry for going off the rails. Everyone who's seen the film has the exact initial reaction to the beginning. 😆 It IS a brutal start and it takes you off guard how we begin with Robin being beaten and killed within the first 5 minutes. It's impressive how much they don't waste time and not feel like it was super rushed. The voice acting cast was just chef's kiss. I do agree with you that Bruce Greenwood isn't my top pick for Bruce Wayne either but he does pretty well. Jensen Ackles, Neil Patrick, Wade Williams and the others did an awesome job imo. I would chuck bouquets of flowers if I could. 😆 When I saw the film for the first time it was super fun guessing who their voice actors were at the time. The casting director Andrea Romano has all my admiration. I can't thank her enough. Kudos to the animators & producers as well. The choreography and visuals were all so well done. Im more so in awe of the inclusion of flashbacks. The way it's set up and executed throughout never felt out of place and was so vital to the overarching story. And ofc, I wanna give applauses to Judd Winick for the whole pitch and giving us a fantastic movie. He's someone I do keep a keen ear on whenever he's writing haha. Ohhhhhh how I wish the movie was a bit longer but this is fine. It was thrilling to know that you had some knowledge about Batman. I sure didn't when I dived in but it's what made me such a huge fan today! The last scene really tugged all my heartstrings. Earlier in the movie though Batman says something about Jason that left me curious. Bruce.. sir. He talks about how he was like when he met him and says “But I knew, even from the beginning, he was dangerous." to Alfred on call. 😑This is a 11 year old boy you're talking about and when you think about those two’s backgrounds... YIKES. I can't talk more about it without some spoilers from various comics so I'll stop there. There's a phrase that goes "two sides of the same coin" that makes me think of those two. I really feel for the both of them. Honestly I love when Batman can get really serious but I don't like it when it's too serious... all the time. For me there needs to be a balance and most importantly.. heart. Because Bruce does have a lot of compassion. He tries to see the best in others and help those who can't help themselves. Despite having a reputation of working alone/being a lone wolf... he's really not 😂 The man lost his parents and now has multiple kids. Agshfnfjfn- I bet he never saw his future like this. Alfred’s reaction to all of this makes me sad. He just wants the family together and happy. 😥😭 I wish Grayson found out along with Bruce Yk… *sigh* Again, I wanna thank you for gushing along with me. This was so much fun and I hope I can catch up with the previous commissions. I'm looking forward to see what's coming in July! Please stay cool and take care yall ❤️

Please watch more western animation. I know we struggle compared to anime, but this is on par with anything else I've seen. I love this movie, thank you so much for reacting to it! PS. I feel like if too many of your foster kids die violently you shouldn't be allowed to adopt any more kids. Just my hot take.

Loved the reaction and discussion! This was a really fun film to revisit, hadn’t seen it for a long while. “on a trip to the Lazarus pit” really made me laugh 😂 I’ve seen a few of the animated Batman films and am in agreement in terms of really enjoying the pulp-y and theatrical aspects of Batman works. For the live action ones, a good film is always a good film, but there’s something special about the unique campiness of his brooding that I’ve seen more in the animated versions. Themes of resistance?... It’s Batman. 🤣 But I always especially love examination of Batman’s dogmatic approach and how often it comes up against accusations of cowardice, hypocrisy and ineffectiveness. The moral conflict was just delicious in this one! Thank you to Nicolas for another amazing commission! 🥰 Cannot wait for everything coming up in July! ❤️

Themes of resistance! I have seen mentions and I thought it was uncanny haha. It was neat to know a good number of people of discord already seen the film. I was pleasantly surprised that RB didn’t know Jason yet. (Sorry for the brutal introduction 😝) So yeah, Bruce’s dogmatic approach to crime and violence does come into question over the years indeed. However, it takes a deeper dissection when it’s his loved ones that come head to head with his approach. I do heavily suggest people to read the Batman's run in the 80s because it gives alot of context to what led to the events in the movie and comics. So why is Jason so angry from his return? We know it’s cause he wasn’t avenged but the way he takes great lengths to give Batman an ultimatum and not kill Joker himself is curious. “You’ll have to shoot me.” … he says to Bruce if he wanted to stop him from shooting the Joker. It’s like he didn’t wanna live in a reality where his father didn’t choose him if he doesn't shoot the Joker. Bruce’s choice is very critical and how he responds tears Jason’s soul. Once again… (in Jason’s eyes) Batman chooses inaction. Because it’s really about “security”, yk something that parents give to their children. Okay I’m spiraling again HAHA. Anywho- If anyone needs any help diving into the lore between them I’m more than willing to give specific comics to head into. I do wanna share neat facts every now and then but nothing big. Just small things like when his birthday is. What his favorite ice cream is. Fav color. That kind of stuff. Additionally, I enjoy pointing out the parallels and peculiar coincidences between the two. The flashback where Jason meets Bruce is bittersweet. It’s sweet cause Bruce lost his parents in crime alley. One day he patrols there and parks the Batmobile only to come back and see it jacked. 😂 The place he lost his loved ones is the very same place he gained a son. Crime alley was no longer a grim reminder of what he had lost anymore. It was now a heartwarming reminder of what he had gained. The bitter part is that he lost Jason in the end as well. The guilt eats away at Bruce once more. Poor Bats. 😭 I also want to mention how much of anything was Jason’s choice. That guy was stripped from so much time. I hope they all make up someday 😔 Thank you and the others for tuning in! Hope you all had your fill with some Batman action. I sure had a lot of fun with you all. ❤️

This is so funny to me. (Last paragraph I mean.) Because he takes these kids in and dresses them up to protect Gotham City from itself. The man will do anything but take therapy. LOL- but I love me some Batman stories. His bad habit of taking kids in needs to stop ✋ 😭 I would love to see more western animated films too. I’m happy to hear you loved this movie too! Yay more fans to gush with haha.

Yes, definitely agree this is one of the most interesting presentations of Batman's core conflict (aka... narcisssistic martyrdom complex). Jason wants to have mattered. 😔 And yes, please, more Batman stuff in the commissions channel! 🥰

Thank you so much for the comment and recommendation - I love a LOT of western animation, especially growing up, so I'm not opposed to it! And YESSSS ahahaha, Batman, just because your'e a billionaire does not mean you are a qualified or safe foster parent! XD

romaniablack

Hahaha BANG! Seems so perfect for Batman! I wish I’d recorded closer to Father’s Day because it would have fit perfectly, but this was such a fun reaction! I love that you recommended this, so thank you! And yesss, Jason Todd! I had not been familiar with him, so I’m glad you’ve introduced him and I am LIVING for all the fan art in the Discord for him! That’s what I love about the commission tier - folks get to recommend me films that mean so much to them so that I can share in that now as well! This really did get me wanting to watch more Batman again, not going to lie! I was really into Marvel, but Batman was a DC staple for me! My dad being a major Batman and SuperMan fan, I grew up around a lot of their older media. But man, what a brutal start to the film and yeah, they don’t waste time getting you into it! I agree, the voice acting is top tier! And the animation was really visually appealing throughout - I thought the fight scenes were a lot of fun in this! I agree, too, I actually would have been all about this movie being longer, too, but it’s fine overall! I have always liked Nightwing and OG Robin, but I’d never gotten into the other iterations of Robin, so this was a really fun learning experience as well! The idea of Jason Todd being “dangerous” from the start has SO. Many. Layers. Yeahhh, and I feel it was bad compatibility from the start because perhaps Jason Todd feels very similarly to Bruce, and acts in ways that feed into intrusive thoughts for Bruce and he has to work harder and more aggressively to resist. And that aggressiveness can come off in the wrong way? I just love Batman and the layers with his character, though, and how it can differ depending on who he interacts with. Thank you for gushing as well! I really enjoyed this commission and I was so happy to dive back into some nostalgia! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment and YES! Stay cool as well!

Yay! Look at me catching up on this comment only a few weeks late *facepalm* Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m so glad so many have seen this movie and enjoyed it too! I couldn’t believe this has been around as long as it has and I’m just now learning of it! Pulp-y is a great way to describe the Batman works – I love the noir feel of the animated series – I need to see more of the animated films I guess! Batman IS Resistance! And yes, I love how he breaks down to Jason why he doesn’t kill and makes it all work for the audience to “get” and understand his reasoning – but yeah, this was pushing it to the edge for him for sure! I’m SO excited for all the July commissions!! 😀Let’s see how they go down!
