I'm actually not caught up to your WoH reactions yet because I've been watching some of your other ones but I had to come back for this episode because it's one of my favourites!! Scorpion King saying he's a gambler too is interesting because he's referring to what Qianqiao said to him in episode 23 when he asked her why she would go back to Yu Qiufeng again. She told him that the more a gambler loses the more they will want to gamble, how giving all your love to someone is the biggest bet, that she bet on Qiufeng and lost and that she was prepared to die for him and lose everything (13:45 if you want to rewatch the scene). He called her an idiot (affectionately??) at the time but now he realizes he's in the same situation, he bet on the wrong person but still wants to keep gambling because he already gave all his love to Zhao Jing and is too deep in at this point. He was ready to die and lose everything too when he told him to kill him this episode. It also further relates back to ZZS telling WKX that he decided to take a gamble in episode 12 (I don't know if you remember, it's the scene at the lake after WKX saved him and Chengling from the Scorpions where ZZS is basically in a roundabout way saying that he'll give their relationship a shot (3:20 in the episode)). ZZS gave all his love to WKX and was ready to die for him too but in his case it's mutual and so far the gamble has paid off. ZZS bet on the right person and Scorpion King bet on the wrong one. This episode has a lot of parallels between the three couples. ZZS accepts WKX fully, CWN accepts Gu Xiang for now (we don't know how he'll react to the truth), Zhao Jing only accepts Scorpion King conditionally. Their issues all revolve around one of them being evil/doing evil things (WKX, Gu Xiang, Scorpion King). I always found it strange how Weining's Senior Brother accused Gu Xiang of being "evil" since it seemed like a huge exaggeration even if he thought she was acting weird but it does make sense if they wanted to draw a parallel. Like you pointed out both WKX/ZZS and Zhao Jing/Scorpion King are talking to each other through a screen at one point. ZZS respects the boundary, Scorpion King barges in. ZZS listens to what WKX is saying, Zhao Jing doesn't listen to Scorpion King. ZZS jokingly says he'll slap WKX if he makes a decision without his knowledge again, Scorpion King actually gets slapped for a decision he made without Zhao Jing's knowledge. ZZS and Zhao Jing both tell WKX and Scorpion King not to create trouble. ZZS and Zhao Jing call them by their respective titles (Chief Wen and Scorpion) but ZZS does it with affection and reassurance while Zhao Jing does it with coldness and distance. The whole Ye Baiyi confrontation is one of my favourite scenes, you can just see how much they love each other. You know in the back of your mind that he probably won't kill them in episode 27 but it's still tense. Like I hear your words grandpa but please don't kill your accidentally acquired grandchildren?? Who else is gonna call you an old toad and cook you acceptable fish soup?? Seriously though, if YBY hadn't found out about WKX's identity he was really just planning on chilling with them at the Four Seasons Manor. He would've gone with them if not for WKX's request to heal ZZS and he wanted to stay there with them for the Spring Festival and probably afterwards too. Why must they always take my found family away from me Baiyi (man) vs. Baiyi (sword) is always kinda funny to me, the moment ZZS takes out his sword and YBY looks at it I just imagine the two Spidermen pointing at each other meme lol This is the first time I've seen the full alternate scene because it's either hard to track down or I haven't tried hard enough to find it. Yes those are their real voices, they don't usually dub over it if they're not gonna use the scene. It's not exactly extended, it's a whole different take with some different acting choices and dialogue and it's actually shorter than the one they ended up using. I definitely get why they had to reshoot it, it may have lightly skirted the edge of not being very straight anymore. I'm pretty sure they tried to make up for the lower amount of intimacy in the final version by adding more flirting at the end though lol. Also speaking of parallels, ZZS smiling and telling WKX to guess when he asks what he would've done if he couldn't stop YBY mirrors that scene from episode 13 where WKX asks ZZS which of the things he told CWN were true and ZZS does the exact same thing (2:46 in the episode) (can you tell I've watched this show too many times?) I love that ZZS just laughs after YBY leaves, it feels so genuine in a way we rarely get to see from characters if you know what I mean? I feel like ZZS has been flirting more ever since they got out of the Longyuan cabinet to compensate for WKX's more pensive mood. I also think it's just his natural personality judging by that flashback in episode 1 where he was teasing Jiuxiao (9:08 in the episode) Chengling wanting to burn the made up thieves' houses down is crazy, maybe having two seasoned killers as your adoptive parents isn't the best influence after all Actually most modern AUs are ZZS being a raging alcoholic who dresses like a homeless person just because he can even though he's basically rich and to WKX's utter dismay has never used a single hair product in his life. Also doesn't know how technology works Yeah the grinding scene is so sensual for no reason, they aren't even really doing anything but it feels like I'm intruding somehow. "My" Chief Wen reminds me of WKX saying "my A'Xu won't lie to me" in episode 4 (19:37, yes I've comitted to finding all the timestamps), glad ZZS finally caught up 23 episodes later I really need to catch up before you finish the show. Will you start Faraway Wanderers immediately after or take a break inbetween? Because I still have to finish reading that and the prequel too lol

Welcome, everyone, to the Censor-Free Zone™—where the bromance is so intense even the censors just threw up their hands and said, “You know what? Fine.” Lines are crossed, gazes linger, and subtext becomes… well, just text. If this is “just friendship,” then I’m besties with my soulmate. Truly, bless whatever loophole made this series happen. P.s…No censors were harmed in the making of this series… or maybe they were, and that’s why they mysteriously vanished. RIP, censorship. We hardly missed you. I don’t know why, but when you said “we only have 10 episodes left,” my soul left the group chat. Like yes, I know how many episodes there are… but I guess I was just living in blissful denial? Now I’m the one clearly spiralling internally…. How did we get here so fast?? Love the idea of Wen Kexing just casually walking around like a one-man illegal flute dealership. “Need a melody or a weapon? I gotchu.” And excuse me, that look between him and Zhou Zi Shu in the beginning? Rude. Uncalled for (JK —please emotionally destroy us like that again. Frequently. With force.) And then we have Ye Bai Yi storming back into Four Seasons Manor, only to find Zhou Zi Shu already waiting for him halfway, and Ye Bai Yi dropping the big reveal—Wen Kexing is the Chief of Ghost Valley. Except... Zhou Zi Shu already knew. Bai Yi goes full rage mode, ready to purge evil from the earth, and Zi Shu’s just like: “If you want to get to him, you’ll have to go through me.” And he means it. What makes the clash hit harder is that both of them actually have solid reasoning. Ye Bai Yi’s all justice and rules, and Zi Shu’s standing on loyalty, love, and redemption. It’s not good vs. evil—it’s a genuine moral crossroads. And I totally agree with what you said—if Wen Kexing can’t be saved, then how could Zi Shu believe he deserves saving either? He needs to believe there’s hope, not just for Kexing, but for himself. #SoulmateLogic. Also… the swords. THE SWORDS. I was crying. Those scenes will never look the same again. My brain is forever corrupted— thanks (jk, I was dying of laughter). And then the tension explodes—Ye Bai Yi and Zhou Zi Shu are clashing swords, emotions high, blades drawn (one long and flexible, the other big and strong… dear god, I am officially ruined), and it’s all spiraling fast—until Wen Kexing comes charging in only to end up seriously wounded by Bai Yi’s relentless attacks Thankfully, he’s protected by that classic wuxia magic: heavily wounded, but still hot. Like, “roughened-up-for-aesthetic” levels of injured. Just when it looks like it’s all over, Zi Shu steps in—bleeding, furious, and so done. He calls Bai Yi out, reminding him that Wen Kexing’s parents died to protect Rong Xuan and the martial world, and that he will live and die with Wen Kexing if he has to. I love how he doesn’t flinch when Bai Yi throws in the classic “Your master would be ashamed!” guilt trip—Zi Shu just goes, “Nah, he’d be right here saving my soulmate with me.” ICONIC. Also, bless you for including the extended/deleted scenes! I had no idea they even existed. I remember watching the original and thinking, “Huh, weird continuity” when Zi Shu’s head suddenly ended up on Kexing’s shoulder from a random back angle. I assumed it was an editing blip or an affectionate accident they left in. But no. NO. It’s a full-blown emotional moment—tears, soft eye contact, actual vulnerability—and they cut it! Tragic. We were robbed. And the scene where Zi Shu hits us with that shift—from dead serious to that devastatingly flirty little smile and laughter? I'm done. That smile should be illegal. Flirty Zhou Zi Shu is peak Zhou Zi Shu. Adorable, lethal, irresistible. Also I’m fully Pavlov’d at this point—whenever the episodes are shorter, I know we’re about to get absolutely spoiled. Every time it's under 40-45 minutes, I start vibrating like, “Yes, yes, give me the good stuff!” And then there’s Cao Wei Ning, looking at Gu Xiang like she personally hung the moon. That man is a walking green flag. No—scratch that—he’s a whole green forest, lush and thriving. Also, random thought—but maybe the reason they addressed the letter to Cao Wei Ning was because it was technically his residence? Like, the courier probably knows where to find him better than Gu Xiang. But still… it’s not like Gu Xiang is untraceable, so who knows. Letter logistics in the martial world remain a mystery. Back at the Manor, Zhou Zi Shu and Cheng Ling are tending to a injured Wen Kexing—casually pretending they got mugged, like this is some martial-arts sitcom and not, you know, a near-death experience. But I love how even in all this chaos, the show takes a quiet moment to highlight Zhou Zi Shu’s care: he never pushes, never pries—he creates space. Literally. The use of screens between them is such a great visual cue—he respects Wen Kexing’s boundaries, and in return, Wen Kexing feels safe enough to finally drop the mask and tell the truth. Compare that with the Scorpion King later, who just barges through the screen, and unsurprisingly gets a very different (read: hostile) reaction. It’s such a smart contrast. As for the confession itself—Wen Kexing finally admits he helped spread the Glazed Armor song, adding fuel to the chaos in the martial world. He didn’t kill Cheng Ling’s family directly, but the guilt is eating him alive. Saying it out loud clearly lifts a weight off his shoulders. And Zhou Zi Shu? He doesn’t know how Cheng Ling will react either—but he’s made one thing crystal clear: no matter what happens, they’re facing it together. Meanwhile, the Scorpion King is putting two and two together about the whole sealed-off Gentle Wind Sword Sect situation and wants to dig deeper. But Zhao Jing—master manipulator and full-time schemer—tells him to back off. As usual, Zhao's playing chess while everyone else is still unpacking the board. But when Scorpion floats the idea of flooding the sect with drugged men, Zhao Jing loses it. For the first time, that calm, polished facade cracks wide open. No charm, no pretense—just raw self-interest. He doesn’t care about anyone else. He only cares about power and keeping his hands clean while others do the dirty work. And Scorpion? He finally gets it. That realization hits like a gut punch—Tragicomic Ghost was right all along. You can practically see the betrayal settle in, masked by rage. It's not just a loss of loyalty—it’s a heartbreak, twisted into fury. And then we cut back to Zhou Zi Shu and Wen Kexing grinding each other —I mean, grinding medicine, obviously. Totally normal, totally innocent… with intense eye contact, sweet touches, and enough tension to set the whole manor on fire. At this point, they’re not even pretending it’s not flirting. We’ve gone from “bromance” to “slow-burn soulmates locked in a dramatic lovers’ tango.” Honestly? No notes. Perfect scene. 10/10. Please never stop.

Not the scorpion king Zhao jing domestic violence, I was fully gagged It’s so touching to see Zhou Zishu accept Wen Kexing for who he is as the ghost chief. It really resonated with me as a queer person, I feel like I navigate the world thinking “if this person knew who am I, would they accept me or hate me?” So seeing Zhou Zishu accept Wen Kexing and still love him really touched me and seeing the same beats with Gu Xiang and Cao Weining is so emotional

Ahhh episode 27 One of the absolute fandom favorites no question But don’t worry, some more favorites are still to come so good times 😁 Where to begin, it’s hard to discuss this ep because there are so many good , emotional and pivotal moments 5:04 ‘ … and my lifelong soulmate’ ZZS you can’t go on saying stuff like that, you ll be the death of WKX. But seriously, how far did our sweet ZZS come since his departure from the window of heaven? He found a soulmate , he found a son , he re found a purpose in reviving the four season manor and teaching CL and living the rest of his life with his soulmate, even WKX revenge quest gave him a purpose, because ZZS is a ride or die type of guy, one he is in , he is all in We already suspected that he knew about WKX being the Ghosts Chief especially after his slip about the hanging ghost by the lake and different other clues. But the thing is, that I adore in ZZS, he doesn’t judge WKX, he accepts him and protects him and is willing to die for him The story is about redemption, ZZS sentenced himself to a slow painful death to redeem himself, he knows about not having a choice, he knows about self loathing and guilt, and most importantly he know WKX because he is his soulmate, the person he knows the best. ZZS is such a breeze of fresh air for an MC, communicative, doesn’t prey. Give space and loyal to the death The confrontation with YBY is just delicious, granpa kicked both their asses without breaking a sweat 😂 but objectively, since YBY appeared in the martial arts world he s been vocal about his vow to destroy the Ghost valley if they ever set foot outside and now he discovers that the man he wandered with for a bit and was trying to pay a debt to was the chief himself, it’s a conflicting situation but YBY is a righteous (if rigid) senior, so of course he decided to go kill the ghost chief. ZZS defending WKX circumstances and pleading for understanding will never not move me but what literally kills me is the looks WKX gives him while he was ranting in his behalf!! My heart, that was the look of a little child that lived the last 20 yrs in a SAVAGE place where you kill or be killed, but for the first time since his parents died he found someone who stood up for him, protected him , was willing to die for him and accepts him whole Such good writing and acting ❤️❤️ Gu Xiang and CWN being a mirror to ZZS and WKX is amazing. Granted he doesn’t know the truth yet but he already accepted her wild unorthodox approach to life Now let’s tackle the other murder husbands.. their scenes are as regal as our main couple plus all the toxicity SK defying ZJ, not being obedient for once and ZJ , revealing his ugly self servant side was so good That look of heartbreak and betrayal on SK face is so so good and well acted… he breaks my heart.. all he wanted was to prove himself and be acknowledge by his Daddy. And Daddy tangled that carrot for so long, but his selfish self centered nature broke through here and SK saw it .. you deserve a better Daddy scorpion king.. Oh and the censors are still MIA, last time we checked , their cruise boat was held in an island.. May they enjoy themselves there and let us enjoy some sensual flirtiness which by the way has no Hetero explanation in any book I know 😂😂 Amazing reaction and discussion as always and glad you like the first take scene ❤️❤️

Thank you for the comment! I LOVED this episode so much!!

HAHAHA -- I love that and yeah, YBY was the face of "You do You" in this episode! I loved ZZS and WKX together so much! Thank you for the comment!

romaniablack

The domestic violence getting adresssssed, yes! I was gagged too, though, I’m not surprised with Zhao Jing. I just love the acceptance with ZZS and WKX - it’s so sweet - and that connection to queer relationships is so good to note! I love that! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

romaniablack

I can see why this would be a favorite!! AHHH, I just love it so much! ZZS saying that WKX is his lifelong soulmate? I believe WKX short-circuited at that moment, among others! ZZS has come SO FAR! I just love it! And I’m glad that he doesn’t judge WKX for being the Ghost Valley chief, and that cat is finally out of the bag, so to speak! I love that this is a redemption story kind of for the both of them, though it’s more ZZS-centered thus far! I just love his role as an MC in this! Yessss, we live for communication and open-minded character development! I love how Grandpa YBY is so over their gay butts hahaha! YBY is righteous and rigid to a fault, this boomer! 😛I just love the way ZZS asks for YBY to consider the situation as a whole but YES OH MY GOSH WKX’s face the whole time – I was just FLOORED and feral this entire scene with their acting! And then of course, we have GX and CWN as the mirror to them! I definitely think that like ZZS, CWN would accept GX no matter what he finds out! :3 Oohhhh yeah, the OTHER murder husbands - the toxicity is terrifying between them! I love SK standing up for himself and ZJ’s ugliness being revealed is so good *ahem, more on that next week* There’s so much heartbreak for SK in these moments and the actor portrays that so. Well. ZJ is so for himself and isn’t about to change his ways, but SK is just hoping that there’s a chance…yeah, I think ZJ has no clue what he has and he better realize he’s about to lose it if he’s not careful…SK definitely deserves better, and I think the TragiComic ghost tried to warn him of that. I love the Censors are still on their island cruise! I hope they’re enjoying it there and stay there for a while! Hahahah! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words - I LOVED that extra scene to pieces! The head rest on WKX’s shoulder? SLAIN. :p Cannot WAIT until Episode 28!

romaniablack

Oohh, there is no rush - you can catch up whenever you want! But thank you for the comment and kind words! This episode is SO. GOOD. That’s a great point about the connection between LQQ and SK! And I love ZZS and WKX connecting to that as well! Yeah, sucks to be SK in comparison! I look forward to when you can go back and see some of my discussions in previous episodes where I talk about the connections and parallels between our main couples - Whiteboard-kun and I had a lot of fun with it! 🙂 I did love the use of the screen as a barrier between our two main murder husband couples and what the show does with that! YBY as the Boomer Grandpa who wants these two murder husbands to “get a room” is hilarious! I love the prospect that WKX begging for ZZS to be healed has inadvertently led to him being targeted by the very man he requested from! I forget at times that the sword is called Baiyi as well - that Spiderman meme is hilarious! I’m so glad you got to see the alternate scene! I love that I got to see their real voices here! That scene is just so good - at least they didn’t completely butcher it in the televised version. And awwww, ZZS asking WKX to guess…with that smile?! I love the parallel and anytime ZZS smiles just warms my heart! I’m obsessed with smirky, flirty, detective ZZS that has emerged these last several episodes! HAHAHA – Chengling and his “influences” – yeah, maybe in hindsight not the best! XD That’s interesting about the modern AU, but I can see that in a sense! And THE GRINDING SCENE - They KNEW exactly what they were doing and I’m so glad the censors are still on holiday! I’m glad you’ve found these time stamps for these parallels as well! ^^ They way that ZZS caught up with WKX is amazing! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I loved this so much! I don’t want to know anything about any sequels or prequels, please, because I won’t be reading them any time soon. Faraway Wanderers would be the only book related to Word of Honor I’m reading so far before a poll on Patreon. And I have not decided what I’m going to do yet with the series after the series. I’ll have updates later this fall about it. Thanks for the support!

THE CENSOR FREE ZONE is so real! The subtext is the text and I live for it! Let’s hope the censors weren’t harmed and just…sent elsewhere! I am in awe that we only have so many episodes left - but at least there’s the book afterwards, so that’s good! YBY as the ultimate boomer! I love how he’s like, “REALLY YOU TWO!?” haha! And ZZS revealing WKX is his soulmate - just slaying us all over the place! This entire scene was a treat and a joy! And smirking, flirtatious, justice-filled Detective ZZS is such an icon, I agree! Thank BeHappy because that extended scene was all them! The cut out parts were WILD! His smile should be illegal indeed! LETHAL! I could re-watch this entire scene with them over and over! CWN is an entire color march of green flags - a forest indeed! Oohhh, that is a good point about the letter, though! Nice catch! I love the use of the screen - like I talked in the discussion - and the romantic sit com life with these murder husbands haha!! I just love ZZS and WKX deciding they would face whatever happens to come together…ah, if only the SK could have been so lucky! Speaking of which…woof this scene with the SK and ZJ! That scene with them was so powerful but - ahem - the GRINDING SCENE - the censors knew what it was doing and let it go, oh my gooooosssshhhh. I agree, this episode was a 10/10 and I just love it so much! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Night Owl

I love the point about Zhou Zi Shu being such a breath of fresh air as a main character—it’s so true! The way he stays unwavering in his decision to stand by Wen Kexing, no matter what, is honestly just beautiful. And yes! That look on Wen Kexing’s face when he saw Zhou Zi Shu stand up for him—willing to sacrifice himself without hesitation—was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. It’s probably the kind of unconditional devotion he hasn’t felt since before his parents died.

Night Owl

Oh wow! I love your take on this episode and how you tied it back to and paralleled it with others. Such a great insight—the connections you drew are spot on!
