One thing that seems to become clear this episode is that last episode had some serious forshadowing about Methode that was hard to notice: There is this flashback were Genau is asking why Methode was partnered up with him, because only mages get send to the north that are battle crazy. He thought Übel would have been his pick of choice for that job. Why was it beautiful cute things loving Methode Nee-san? Well suprise: because she actually is a battle crazy mage, from a clan of battle crazy mages, just that she seems to hide it well and actually enjoys the cuter things in life. Other subtle Give aways: Her fricking Staff is a Halberd. The way she carelessly held the blue messenger bird by it's talons. Or the fact that she was the mage fighting Fern's Copy(While it was open ended if she had defeated her Spiegel Copy, or the Spiegel Copy vanished before having the final blow).

OMG what an episode! And Genau Genau Genau... I really liked the parallels between him and Frieren. Both reluctant characters (Frieren, Genau) losing they sunshine boyfriends... Both trying to live by they example after... Now all I need is Genau centric spinoff where every episode would start with the time passage counting from his partners death (instead of Himmel's).

Serie: "So even you say things you don't mean sometimes." *proceeds to immediately say characterizations about Genau she doesn't mean* Since she associates kindness with a tendency of dying early, I think telling him to remain (without a shred of kindness) that way forever is her way of telling him I care about you and want you to live a long life, just like you pointed out. However, I think she knows Genau has a kindness within him. Her claiming the opposite is her adorable/tsundere way of trying to cope with the possibility that Genau's kindness could put his life at risk too. After she leaves the casket of Genau's partner (notice her eyes are hidden) and has time to settle down, she recognizes what she said to Genau will not actually aid towards her desire for him to live a long life. This is where she takes action and demonstrates good foresight, pairing Genau with Methode who use can not only use healing magic but also serves as an example for him of how to live a more balanced lifestyle that expertly allows violence, ruthlessness, and kindness to coexist in a way that is less likely to send him to an early grave.

Idk exactly why but I always love when fern gets overprotective of frieren😂. Also unrelated to frieren but the chainsaw man pt 2 manga ended yesterday im devastated, now Tuesday is just a regular day🥲.

Russell mentioned this in a previous comment, but I believe the scene with Serie and Genau shows us that Serie really does care about him, but she is so set in her ways and beliefs that she can't admit it to him or herself. To use an anime trope, it's a tsundere type vibe. The casket scene this episode reminded me of the Flame flashback in S1EP25. Whenever Serie spoke about Flame, her words always seemed harsh, but I think the episode direction always made it clear that she had a deep bond with her. We obviously don't know the extent of Serie and Genau's background together, but I would like to personally think that Flame affected Serie the same way the Hero's party affect Frieren.

I love that Frieren has reserved a spot in the party for Sein and i also think he is a better fit than Methode, but teasing her joining and not have her tag along for an episode or two is criminal, i want more Methode. Not shipping Methode and Genau and not shipping Frieren and Sien, but you know what? I'm gonna ship Methode and Sien... fingers crossed she is old enough. Yes i also wanted more a bit from the demon child, i know many people really doesn't like wanting the demons to more than just irredeemable and evil, but i won't find it that engaging if every demon is introduced with cool and/or interesting designs, maybe hinting at something more, knowing they'll just be cut down like grass every time.

Yesssss, the concept that Methode is a battle crazy mage from a clan of them – she just pacifies her bloodlust with headpats and hugs! XD Maybe that’s why Serie is okay with it in the end. And ooohh, those are all great observations that ended up being foreshadowing! YES! Thank you for noting that and the comment!

SUCH a great episode, yessss! Genau INDEED! I just love him and Frieren’s parallels as well! And oooh, that connection is really good to note! I would honestly watch an entire series on Genau’s adventures! UGH and the ANGST it could have with that idea! Wow…hahaha! Thank you for the comment!

That’s a nice note about Serie! That’s a fair point about her tsundereness trying to cope that he could kill himself (which he almost does here). I am so glad she paired Methode and Genau together; they make such a great duo! Thank you for the comment!

Yes, that does make sense – our Elven tsundere! Or are all Elves tsundere? Haha! I could see the connection to the Flame scene, yes! That’s a fair point! Thank you for the comment and tying that back; I love this series making these parallels throughout!

Yeah, Frieren would rather tolerate any of Sein’s advances than Methode, who seemingly can follow through, haha! I really agree, though; she could have at least hung around longer, but we can’t let Genau be off anywhere by himself, apparently. ;) Still, I really came to appreciate Methode and enjoy her character – and oooh, I would be ALL FOR Methode and Sein – let’s hope he has a chance to meet her and like you said, she fits his “type!” 😛 Yeah, at least they hinted at that demon that “studied” humans…THAT could be neat to know about, but I would like a little more depth explored with them, even if they all get cut down in the end. I don't want to change them from being incapable of compassion, love or whatever you want to call it, but i still think there can be more interesting philosophical discussion to have about them and perhaps with them, unless they are magically unable not to always decieve humans. But in this world it seems demons are not evil sent out from hell or the devil or something and more akin to magical animals that just happend to evolve to prey on humans... so perhaps there is a small amount of "domestication" that can be done. :P

I really hadn't expected to latch onto either of them after Season 1 (though there was a lot of potential) but man, this season did the work to getting me on board!

Yeah, I get what you're saying -- I think it would be interesting to see the demons trying to figure out humanity and what makes them tick from an animalistic point of view. That is an interesting concept on the "domestication...." Hmmmm....I might have to talk in the intro of Episode 10 about that!
